I never flush the toilet withy he lid open now since I found out about this. Well I did once, and I held my breath until I was out the room. It felt like I was in danger of inhaling fungus spores from The Last of Us and I could turn into a clicker 😢

This is precisely the reason I started years ago the habit of always putting down the lid before I flush. That is an almost unheard of luxury in a public toilet. I hate that I’m just trapped in that little room, knowing I’m being sprayed with God knows what kinds of nastiness. I could flush and run out, but that isn’t always an option. Those stalls can be close quarters with not much room to maneuver, especially with a purse or other belongings to carry with you. Also, there might be someone waiting right outside the stall to jump in as soon as I get out, which would not allow me the chance to double-check that the flush was successful. So I have to stay in the stall, huddled into whatever corner is farthest from the bowl, my face turned away from the water. If it didn’t all go down, I repeat the entire nightmare. It’s a no-win situation. This is certainly one of those cases in which ignorance is bliss. If only I didn’t know about the aerosolized particles! 😫

Keep in mind the professor specifically stated *commercial toilets* not household toilets. Commercial toilets use higher water pressure and have no lid to close.

Public toilets don’t have lids so I unlock the door first, flush n run out like a mad person hoping no splash particles landed on me. 😂

This Important to know for health reasons even in your own toilet especially for women. If you flush while still sitting, you have to cover your parts with your hand to avoid the jumping water from touching your parts. My mom got a serious infection over this when I was a kid.

I usually close the toilet door before flushing.

It's why it is important to always keep the lid down, and also prevent pets from using or drinking from the bowl. And clean and sanitise the toilet EVERY day.

Dam, I would have thought the Toilet Manufacturers would have done there own research prior to making a finished product...there needa to be Health & Safety standards for every Toilet, especially after COVID

In hospitals always ask for closing the lid before flushing seems for safety against spreading viruses.

That was clear and common sense, that if you flush the toilet with the lid open, that all the bacterias will fly around. That’s why I always first close the lid before flushing.

This is why I don’t like the soft close toilet seats. I don’t flush until the seat is all the way down so I end up pushing it to hurry it up lol

I used to flush with the lid open thinking the toilet would get "contaminated" but I would rather it be the dirty one rather than the things I touch around the bathroom. It stinks up your bathroom too when you flush with the lid open.

There is nothing I hate more than public toilets that automatically flush. If I’m seated and the damn thing starts flushing I stand up real quick but it’s pointless.
