Do on call firefighters get paid for the work? Is there a difference to a volunteer firefighter? I am one myself here in Germany. In Germany the fire service is provided by 97% volunteers🚒🚒

On call firefighters used to be volunteer, at least mostly, but all firefighters are paid now, regardless of how much time they give or what duty system (on call or wholetime).

in the UK there is whole-time, retained and volunteer. retained and whole-time are paid and trained to the same standards, volunteer stations may not be as fully equipped as the other two and are mainly in rural locations, they get paid but only when they are turned out
