*******************************************************************************************************************************************************************************I I wasted so much time on this track that I think I don't wanna hear about it for month to come. It took me some time to figure it out. I found a midi rendition of the song but I figured the riffs are played a bit differently than the original, so I started watching vids for covers of this song to make a bit closer to the original, though in some parts the way it was played on that midi file kinda made more sense. So, in the end it's kind of a mix between the midi file, the original playing and some additions from me. Kalmah's Swamplord is one of the albums I was heavily listening back at the beginning of the '00. I've listened to They will Return for a few times and... kinda, the magic was gone (same happened to me with the first Children of Bodom, which I totally love, still). For some reason, what they were doing after that one is not that appealing to me. There are songs, here and there, but that's kind of it. The tricky parts on this one are all the guitar harmonies, and a bit the solo (though, for this time it went more smoother then ever). There's a lot of things happening regarding the plugins used. Played a lot with phases this time to kinda create that spatiality effect. It is most notably on the bass guitar for some reason. Also this time I blended the DI of the guitars (if you can call them this way) and the distorted result. Also, played a lot with different IRs in the harmonies/solo areas, for the same purpose of creating the illusion of depth. But after overwhelming the mixer with plugins (at some point I thought my computer will explode), I started creating the sound from scratch again. This actually happened twice, ending up switching the amps used between them and also using some binauralizer plugins. But still for some reason I'm not that satisfied with the ending result. I can hear the drums though, this time. Still not cutting through enough, but I can hear them. The only thing that really bothers me this time is the sound of hihats and cymbals, crashes. Feels a bit too strong in the mix. Anyways, I didn't wanted to stall this any longer. No real instruments used, only VSTs.
