This is such a tremendous song, even as just an instrumental. It's an amazing breakup song to begin with, but even without the vocals, just the melody, it still comes through. Every breakup is unique, though there are common elements. This one starts off with a single guitar, playing solo, like a guy (or gal, I suppose) sitting alone, trying to work things out with their music. Then a friend, a buddy, sits down beside them, and joins in, picking up the sound and the rhythm, playing alongside their friend who's hurting. Another friend joins in, not saying a word, just sharing in their friend's pain and trying to work through it. Eventually the whole band kicks in, a whole circle of friends, there to support their buddy who's been through the wringer and trying to get their head straight and their life back together after their heart's been broken and deeply hurt. Doesn't get much better than that. "If someone else is suffering enough oh to write it down When every single word makes sense Then it's easier to have those songs around The kick inside is in the line that finally gets to you And it feels so good to hurt so bad And suffer just enough to sing the blues . . ." - Elton John/Bernie Taupin
I saw everclear live, and i was at the very front, but i didn't know who they were. They played a tiny show at Sea World for some reason and I just walked in because it was a live rock show.
