The key here is that the rest of the members, especially Craig and Greg were the best musicians. Art sucks live unfortunately - but, he's a hell of a songwriter and arranger. I think Craig and Greg were really part of the magic that brought that band together - once they left the "Art show" Everclear plunged straight down the cliff.
Anyone else hear the recorded drum track still playing at the end? Sounds like he was using a recorded beat to keep the tempo live or maybe they were miming to the recording? Everclear was more of a studio band. Their live performances always have energy, but they sound like crud.
I’m sure everyone played live on recovery. The studio they filmed in was never great for live performances, so most bands didn’t sound amazing, and add to that it was super early in the morning. It didn’t matter though, recovery was the best way for 14 year old me to see live performances of cool bands when they toured. Most bands wouldn’t get much mainstream attention when touring Australia unless they were on hey hey it’s Saturday🙄. Looking back I really took ‘recovery’ for granted, it was a great time to be a teenager in Australia.
"We too try to listen to other peoples music so we can make music the people like so hopefully we'll sound like everybody else" at 9:49 Damn, Art! Hahaha
