I love how at the end the bad persona goes to bed lonely, while the Volvo driving soccer mom is together with her hubby and more happy seeming. They parallel everything in this video so well. And Art's eyes are beautiful. Everclear is amazing.
We saw Everclear in Gulf Shores, Alabama just a couple of years ago. It was incredible. Art Alexakis got up there and said "yeah we're going to play new music for our real fans" and everybody just kind of went SHIT... Then he said "no, I'm just fucking with you. We're going to play for two hours and you'll know the words to every song we play". It was probably the best concert I've been to in 10 years. The whole crowd stood up and sang with their lighters in their hands. HELL YEAH!!!
@@DiamondTurtle you're as young as you feel you are. Being older doesn't have to stop you being wild. You don't have to stop doing anything just because you get older. I know plenty of people that are older than me, I'm 56, that still live very active lifestyles doing all the extreme sports and concert going and anything else they want to do. At 56 I still do whatever I want to do. Take care of your body, don't stop moving.
I was never a stripper but I was pretty wild. And met my husband during my wild days. Somehow he saw something in me no one else did. So yeah my life pretty much followed this video 🤣
I've lived long enough where I know this analogy is absolutely correct. The "it's not a phase" settle down and become unrecognizable from what they were before.

This is not a good video, it's a GREAT video. The transition shots are so great. A lot of thought (and trips to the strip club) went into this video. It fits the song so well. Bravo to the director AND to Everclear!
Exactly ! This is some real quality work. It would've read hokey as hell on script but executed fantastically on screen. Excellent editing between the past/present, especially how the band's shots are nicely snuck in between. One of the few timeless music videos, even if the music was trash (which it isnt). In a larger picture, as an Everclear fan - she's been given another chance to repeat things and to do it in a better way.
Agreed. I think it's one of the cleverest music videos ever made. The juxtapositions all the way through are brilliant, and together with the lyrics, the visuals create a poignant and insightful picture of a life. And it doesn't hurt that the song itself is great.
The thing is that the "guy in the club" seems to be her later husband as well, another thread between her old life and her new life. If this were real, that would make for awkward discussions. Like what are we gonna tell the children if they ask us how we met each other?
@@nodelescu You be honest and always keep it as a "matter of fact" deal. If nothing made of it as being something to be ashamed of...then theres nothing hid, nothing that makes it a frequent topic of conversation and nothing to blindside mom, dad and kids when someone else wants to use it as ammo or leverage. Example: some kid throws it in the face of one of the kids out of spite...thinking it will embarrass them..kids response "she was a dancer, entertainer dumbass. It's s a far leap from main stage at a Gentleman's Club to the street corner your momma walked. Which it is...a very far leap.
I was in high school when this song came out ... I loved it but had no idea how true to form it was until ended up dating a stripper for a brief period in my mid 20's ... It was hilarious how true this song was except for her it was her "nightlife" and her "daytime life" no one in her close circle except me at the time and a few of her "work" friends knew about her nightlife .... and during the day she was a straight up soccer mom - it was such a trip to see her two different sides. She was pretty crazy though in the "should be medicated but isn't" way .... it was like dating Dr Jeckyll and Mr Hyde........Last I heard though she married and moved to the burbs to pursue a career in nursing she seems happy so I'm happy for her .... I always think of her when I hear this song .... probably always will.
I want to be a fly on the wall when this father has the 'How I met your mother' conversation with his kids. "Well we met at a...uh... club while she was...dancing...and we made eye contact so she came over and...um...then we went out to my car and...went to a party where we...hey, who wants ice cream? This is the perfect song for all the girls I ever dated or wanted to date when I was High School. Most of them are all now "Volvo Driving Soccer Moms"...but they were at the time I like them all very wild...amazing what the years do!!!

Just saw these guys again last night and the show was great. This song live was one of the best pieces they performed all night. Art still enjoys playing this many years later and it's just amazing to see how much fun they still have playing the music they made for fun years ago! Thanks for having this one up; much props to Emimusic on this video.

I'm not going to tell others I like Céline Dion's music. Because I don't and I also don't like every single song my favorite artist puts out. Some tracks are better than others.
everclear will always hold a special place in my heart and will be my favorite band of all time. I was a stripper for 2 weeks danced to this song every day of it.
In times of few great rock bands/songs like we've been in, this song stood out and should have been much bigger than it was. I wonder why rock stations didn't play it as much as it deserved?
I'll never forget I had this CD when I was younger and this song was playing and mom and dad were listening and they got through the explicits in the first verse and started laughed hard when the chorus started. I really liked Sunshine (that acid summer) off this
There is a poster of a 63 Corvette that says "they don't write songs about Volvos" I laugh and think of this song when I see that poster online because they actually do.
Ha ha ha! I love this! So complete opposite. I love how they exaggerate this. It's a very interesting video. Everclear never disappoints. And on another note is that its kinda sad that most bad girls these days aren't into rock anymore but they're into rap and pop instead. Very sad. I miss those days.
Phoenix I agree. I got made fun of when I bought my volvo, but it's a pretty rad car. Not all lame and boring like the name they kind of get for themselves. Just wish I could actually afford to keep it lol
