I did the trip in March/April 2019 and Annapurna Base Camp 2018. It's good to see the locals haven't wasted the time when there have been no tourists in cleaning the route and improving some of the accommodation which was sometimes less than basic! It must also have been great to do it with almost nobody else on the mountain. There were a lot of large groups on the trail when I did it and many with very little in the way of good manners. Great video and makes me want to do it again!

I liked your EBC trekking video. It's wonderful especially when you are commemorating, follwing your father's foot prints with your daughter.All expressions are very natural and with beatiful,informative naration. I may go to this Oct and it will help me a lot. Thanks. J.Banerjee

What a beautifully shot film. I last did the EBC trek in 2000 (I'd done it in 98 and 99 too and did them all solo) so good to see it's all as beautiful as it was then, though Namche has grown a bit and now there are things like the internet and electricity available. 7:44 - I always stayed at the home that is next to this waterfall when I trekked so great to see the fall again! The accommodation has certainly got a lot more luxurious up to Namche. I don't think I'll ever forget that zig-zagging path up to Namche! It was nice to see your grandparents at the site of the Everest View hotal in the 70's - it was just being started in the 90's when I was there. Well done for pushing through and getting to Kala Pattar - as you said, it's all worth it for THAT view!. Thanks for making a great video that brought back many happy memories for me. Where next? K2? PS Shared your video with my Facebook trekking groups.

Delightful video and narrative, and to see your mom and you get so much out of the hike, Allie. I did the route with just me and a guide - starting the hike in Jiri, getting up to KP, and then flying back from Shangboche just above Namche in the monsoon season of 1995. The route and accommodations were empty as during your trip, but they were extremely sparse. Nowhere as comfy as you experienced. Thank you so much for sharing your experience in that video, I am now inspired to take my 21 y/o daughter back up that route.
@JuicyAMM
@JuicyAMM 7 месяцев назад
Yes, I imagine it's grown so much since 1995! When my grandparents were trekking there in the 1970s, they stayed in tents pretty much the whole time since they didn't have accommodations like this. You'll definitely have to go back and bring your daughter, it will be a whole different experience for you!

This was very beautifully filmed and edited. Some people don't show the places they stay or the meals in videos but i think it's such a big part of the experience freezing your ass off at night and sitting looking at a plate of food without any inclination to eat it.But there was still a wonderful feeling in some of those places, especially the Tibetan guesthouses. It's interesting that you took diamox on the way up. I had some with me but never took any. I think we were told not to take it unless we got major symptoms. At Dengboche i woke 20 times in the night gasping for breath..but by morning i was fine. Age and health doesn't seem to be a factor in who gets altitude sickness and when. One guy who got to the top of Everest with no problems, went back a year or two later and got altitude sickness before base camp that time. By the way those first 2 or 3 places you stayed in were unbelievable. I didn't know there were such places on the trek. We were in freezing plywood teahouses and it was december and it was so cold that every morning we had to break the ice in the toilet before we could use it. Many people on the way up lost their appetites, and many have the mountain cough for a month afterwards. I really admire the way you went about the trek because attitude is so important in the mountains. What you missed about walking back was that you begin to walk faster and feel more energetic with every few hours. We got down in 2 days walking pretty fast. I think i lost almost a stone doing the trek and i was eating every day, so im guessing you lost a bit of weight too. Congratulations on completing the trek.
@JuicyAMM
@JuicyAMM 7 месяцев назад
Thank you so much!! We had the most amazing time and we would do it all again in a heartbeat! It's well worth braving the cold and any altitude sickness symptoms! Glad to hear you had a great experience as well, it's a once in a lifetime trip. I definitely lost a lot of weight losing my appetite but gained it all back very quickly once we got home haha

If you just want to do the trek that is fine but if you want a truly immersive experience we suggest getting a local guide born and raised there! At the end of the day it comes down to how often are you going to visit these places. Why not make it the best you can? :)

Thank you so much! We brought suitcases to Nepal but while you're on the trek, most hotels will typically store your luggage. For the trek, our trekking company gave us duffle bags so we packed only what we needed for the trek in there and the porter carried that for us. In your backpack, you only pack what you need for the day (water, layers, etc..) and you carry that with you

This was so well done. Question? Ball park figure of money needed to prepare for and make this adventure from the US? ThNk you in advance

I think you can do this trip on the cheaper end or higher end. It will all depend on your accommodations, flights, what tour company you book with, how long you’re planning to go for, and what gear you need to buy. I know some people will buy all their gear in Kathmandu because it’s cheaper. It is lower quality though so I don’t suggest purchasing all your gear there. There are also very cheap accommodations along the way you can choose from.

Hey there! I was wondering how you were able to get a reservation at the Everest View Hotel and how much it cost? Are planning to do the trek next October so excited!
@JuicyAMM
@JuicyAMM 2 года назад
Our trekking company arranged the reservation for us and included it in our total price so I’m not sure exactly what we paid, I do know it was on the higher end (might have been around $400 for the night?) I don’t think it’s worth the money to stay overnight there. Yes, you have beautiful views but if the weather is good, most people will do a day hike from Namche and stop there for lunch on your acclimatization day so you will still get to see the views without paying to stay there. Another thing to keep in mind is if you are going with a guide and you are planning to stay the night there, the guide isn’t allowed to stay in the hotel. Since no one was staying there when we went, they made an exception for our guide. So glad you’re going in October, that will be a great month to go and you’re going to have the best time!

Well put together and you enjoyed the best lodges. Some of the others on route are a bit less comfortable 😆. Can I ask why you were on diamox? I know why it’s used but why were you using it and who suggested it and when did you start to Take it and stop? Regards from England

Thank you! We did some research before and I spoke with my physician and decided it would be best to take it. I know others who have gone without it and have been fine so it’s really a personal decision! My doctor told me to start taking it 24 hours before I flew in to Lukla and I took it until we reached peak altitude. If you get a prescription, they’ll advise you on how to take it.

I used the GoPro MAX which I highly recommend since it’s very lightweight. Make sure to bring 4 batteries with you, they don’t last very long and I’d go through two a day. Good luck with your trip!

Can you tell me what type of training you did to prepare and how long? xxx
@JuicyAMM
@JuicyAMM 2 года назад
We started lightly training 6 months before and heavily training 3 months before. When we were heavily training, we did 8-10 mile hikes with weights on our back 2x a week, the other days we were doing HIIT and weight training. You can definitely do the trek with less training than we did, but the more you train the more enjoyable the trek will be!

@@JuicyAMM Thanks Allie. We bought 26 litre ospreys and I think they should work. We are using porters for the trip. So just need day stuff. Really enjoyed your film. Good work.
