Being a native Floridiot 👍 and a graduated boyscout I know that the saw palmetto has an abundance of moisture in the heart , also is a great food source , heart cabbage and gater tail is a FINE meal . Special ty to my mentor 2 feathers Seminole shawmen who taught me advance survival techniques and has been my dear friend since my youth , RIP Brother !

Cypress dome. Hammocks tend to be higher. In extreme S FL, the Hammocks are often home to West Indian Rain Forest and tear drop shaped from centuries of Everglades flow. Unique. Watch those kids. Cottonmouth are really, really common and big and mean. When my brothers and I were young, Dad would take us into the Glades fishing. He had no clue what he was taking us into. Later, when my brothers and I would do multiple day trips into the Glades, Dad didn't want us to go. I got stories lol. Love for the swamps is a "special" kind of love.

I hope I never have to use this but looked it up because the chances of getting stranded in the glades is low but never zero. Plus I go there often.

Now I know how to obtain water in an area of cypress trees by digging a shallow well at a low point, and using the bark as tinder. My real fear of the Everglades are alligators and pythons. These are top predators. There are poisonous snakes too. Hence, you must never allow the kids to wander off. In any forest, I move by compass bearing. Then I don't get lost. Best to count your paces too.

Tbh I cant imagine being in south fl if it's apocalyptic times. It's way to damn hot most of the year and I like to sleep cool. I much rather go a lil north. I feel like it's easier to survive up north due to more resources of food and wood and water

Everglades can get quite cold at night. And there is food and water literally everywhere. Take a trip in Jan-March and I promise you’ll fall in love

@@cubanhunter1 i live in south Florida and during the summer from march till December i wouldnt wanna be here without ac. But yeah dec to march awesome. I drive a truck and its funny going from warm beaches to freezing snow within a day lol

The areas large clumps of cypress are in are called “cypress domes”. Oaks in large clusters are called hammocks. I don’t know the logic/reasoning for these names but I know that’s what they are called.

The largest cypress are in the middle, making a dome or island look. Water is deepest in the middle.

If you go down 3 to 5 ft you will find the water table and always have water in Florida. Id still filter boil , chlorinate before drinking. Or use a life straw if i was on the move. If your dehydrated and drink bad water it could give you more problems. I would not recommend drinking without at least filtering.

Dude ... WHERE ARE YOU FROM ??? Hammock ... a primary , basic word used to describe ALL wooded patches on prairie or in the swamps. YOU would drink “static” water here in Florida ... it’s better than dying of thirst ... dehydration ... ? Do you have any idea what will happen to you if you drink that water ? It’s a death of unimaginable suffering and torment. If you moved down here from up north or out west ... go find yourself a group of Seminole Indians here in South Florida . Spend a couple months with them ... it will actually take about three ... and learn how to survive here. This is coming from a native ... born here ... lived here for much of my adult life .. hunter , tracker , and taught by some of the very best. You’ve got allot to learn before you start trying to teach folks ... what YOU would do. At this point ... you WILL die trying. Semper Fi

Sometimes yes sometimes no. State of health and conditioning is a key factor. Given the amount of toxins everywhere now it's best to filter and boil. Don't use chemicals to disinfect water as they aren't natural.
