Evergreen Game - Anderssen vs Jean Dufresne

In one of the most famous chess games, named the Evergreen Game, we have Adolf Anderssen vs his chess student Jean Dufresne.
Both sides played with reckless abandonment which made for a very entertaining game and ended with one of the craziest decoys and finishing touches to a chess game that we've seen. Hopefully everyone enjoys watching two powerhouse chess players play back in the 1800's

One of many PERFECT examples that one can still win at a material disadvantage. In white's case he had an advantage in space, which provided more flexibility in movement. It's amazing that black was sooooo close to mating white; but is seems that he was viewing things from a more tactical (short-term) perspective whereas white was viewing things from a strategic (long-term) perspective via the sacrifices made that ultimately secured his win. Great game...thanks for sharing!

good commentary for us beginners who get confused by excessive side lines. I am glad some people make easy to follow chess videos, knowing there will be know-it-all commentators who insist all chess videos must be at their exalted level ( or their perceived exalted level.)

I saw the line with the rook sac. Coughing up 14 pts of material to force mate... with the double check being the key ingredient in delivering the mate. The dangers of not castling.

That philosophy is called meditation or self-realizing. You should try it a few minutes each day for a week! You will see great results. :)

this Anderssen fella is nuts! I saw your other analysis on Anderssen as well. he loves to sacrifice pieces. I could never have the balls to do that. can you do more Fisher and Kasparov games?
@ANoisyMindIsEvilDuhh
@ANoisyMindIsEvilDuhh 11 лет назад
I mean to say practice daily that meditation of totally silencing "all" language in the mind for seven seconds in a row a few times each day. That will lead to self-realizing and higher intelligence that is otherwise unavailable without self-realizing mediation daily.

It is because he already had a forced checkmate sequence. He wasn't trying to break even, even if he got the queen he would have been behind in pieces and positioning.

Without self-realizing a human is guaranteed to only use less than 5% of their brain or potential and will be regressing or very stunted noticeably. Mind and body are one and every thought you have each second becomes imbued with your attitude yet again so bring self-realizing consciousness to every thought and the body turns into light fast. Self-realizing consciousness ascends matter and you ascend with it.

Gratings to all, does anyone know what is the software that is used making chess videos such as these. I would like to find software that will able me to practice chess on a virtual board instead of a real board which I fined less convenient. Because of the need to study different lines I would like not being restricted to "legal" moves but have the possibility to move pieces around. Thanks and good luck to everybody.

Chess is military inspired and it was common back then to send whole columns of soldiers forward and even sacrifice them so that another column could strike a blow. This went all the way until WW1 with infantry storming machine gun nests out in the fields. Now, as you say, it is less customary to make crazy sacrifices and it seems that the contemporary way of waging war is also more about precision and surgical strikes. And, let's be honest, war is still a shit show and chess is still cool.

Q. Bored and my mind is racing great. A. You have English in your mind racing so you are bored. You haven't figured out yet that you can make all English in your mind totally silent by will while awake yet but you can with practice of seven second intervals. With gaps of no English in your mind for seven seconds a few times each day soon your mind will be totally silent 24/7 as your natural state. The reason you don't already know that is because you are young.

But unconscious identification with ego (conscious English thoughts) descends matter and you descend with it. Either you are ascending daily or descending daily.

I enjoy your commentary. Just a minor quibble though. Although Jean Dufresne is German, his first name is French and should be pronounced as "Jon" rather than the way Americans pronounce the women's name "Jean." Here's another good commentary on the Evergreen game, and the commentator pronounces Dufresne's first name correctly. watch?v=cTovV-scfIQ Again, thanks for your excellent chess commentary.
