Official trailer for the 1st EverQuest expansion pack, The Ruins of Kunark. Released: April 24, 2000 This video was uploaded for posterity and all content is copyright 2000 Sony Online Entertainment.
Ruins of Kunark is essentially the Empire Strikes Back of video game expansions. It perfectly captured the magic sekret sauce of the base game, enhanced it and provided a huge heaping of AAA new content. What a time that was; I'm so glad I got to experience it!
I am going for project 1999. EQ is not what is used to be on live servers. I am not paying for it anymore since they never listened the 5 years i did play and ended up ruining the game. Sony buying EQ was the worst thing to happen and the game went downhill since.
Nostalgia overload. I can't handle it. I remember sitting at my pc looking at this thinking," OMFG", Just like my first time logging in.I'm glad they removed the dislike count. I would nerd rage over anyone disliking this.
The greatest game of all time. The friends , the fun, the myth. I spent 4 years of my life playing this game and till this day I think it was worth it. On of the coolest things after getting my "epic" and fungi at lvl 55 with disciplines was realizing that I could beat warriors 2-3 Lvls above me in the arena, watching them run for their lives after picking fights.
Funny how this trailer features some of the best music from the pre-expansion EQ, when one of the things I remember most vividly about Kunark is that the devs seemed to have forgotten to include any new music at all, or even to make any real use of the old music.
Relive all this on the still young EQ reborn emu server that's still in vanilla! We have a chatty helpful community and are enjoying the small QoL tweaks that have been made to make the game a little easier to enjoy in the current year. EQ still remains the best MMORG ever made
I too hoped for years it would do just that. Then Brad died and we still don't have an idea of when that thing is leaving alpha. It's a shame =\ I just started playing P99 Green though. Scratches the itch.
This was an amazing expansion, I spent a lot of time in EQ on Kunark. It was beautiful, the lore was interesting and I liked adventuring with Iksars. :-) I remember grinding for so long outside Karnor's Castle in the Dreadlands, the general chat and community spirit made it easier and more fun though. To those wanting Blizzard to be given the licence, do you think Blizzard will want to help create a rival to their WoW?
@xxMills92xx You are correct! Lol. Iksar Monk. Another thing that I loved was my two handed blunt weapon. I can't remember the name but it had an irresistible proc for any lvl. 100 damage + stun "you've been struck by 100 blows". Lol my dex was so high I would get a proc every 3 hits. Many higher lvl unskilled casters and warriors fell victim to that staff lol. The stun induced sheer panic in them.
One of the greatest experiences of online gaming that can never be replicated without somehow replicating internet culture of the late 90s. What a time to be alive.
omg, i miss the original EQ + Kunark , back in 99? that was the best days of my gaming life , Scars of velious was amazing too, in fact I enjoyed EQ until PoP i think
@@Marty31636 Luclin zones were cool tho...getting to go to the moon! That was awesome...I liked PoP too. Getting to go fight all the gods we learned about and got to choose at character creation...getting to go to their planes..that was all awesome IMO.
an I am back to add a comment 3 years later: I was and am not a fan of the lizard Iksar race. the game had a cheerful medieval thing going on before the lizard race with a slight romantic feeling to it, but that lizard angle to the game deviated too much.
@xxMills92xx People called me CRAZY for saying "They should let WoW make their next EverQuest". NOW LOOK - It's too late SoE sold-out to a German company that makes Flash Games LoL. Germans are pretty smart, so hopefully they step up their game, but right now things look really grim for SoE. One of their lead programmers is stepping down and leaving. Word is with the switch to (German licensed company) European servers will be segregate from us Americans. SoE Hahaha they got what they deserve...
@SequelFinalNight Any other time I would completely disagree but you know what. Your right. I really think Blizzard could Next gen the newest Everquest concept with story and lore from (Verrant) and the graphics of SOE with mechanics through Blizzard.

I say give the "Everquest" name to Blizzard with the agreement that it must maintain true to the original Everquest theme and style of play, but using next generation graphics and design. I dont trust SoE after playing Everquest 2 for them to make Everquest Next (AKA EQ3)
