In this video, I’ll clear up some misconceptions about the EverSD and explain why it’s not just a device for playing games through questionable means. The EverSD was designed with a primary purpose in mind: to back up the cartridges you already own on the Evercade system. I’ll it important why it’s important for preserving your collection, and how using the EverSD responsibly can enhance your Evercade experience. I also mention a number of other devices that are less money than the EverSD if playing games are dubious means is the route you want to go. it’s a waste of money to buy EverSD if you just want to play old video games through dubious means. this is a device that was made to back up your Evercade cartridges. It’s not for everybody.

I agree with this video. Most of the regulars I've talked to in the EverSD community are primarily looking for the ability to backup their carts, decide when and if they allow Blaze to update their carts, or are interested in creating their own "fantasy collection" that simulates what a future real cart could be like. People even go as far as to reflash real carts with that fantasy collection and make new cart stickers and boxart to match. I think it's a fun and creative way for fans of Evercade to show their love.

Exactly, Eric! That’s what it’s all about . I’ve seen some people make those fantasy carts , that’s pretty interesting and a cool idea for a proof of concept.

Nobody knows what happened with Namco: I wouldn't assume there's any kind of invidious division between the two companies. Whoever is handling this account in a boardroom in Tokyo probably has more respect for Blaze (Evercade) management than they have for Jakks Pacific and the numerous plug n play partnerships Namco has permitted over the years.

You are right about protecting my investment. After hearing about carts getting bricked and owning the whole collection up to date it would really suck that any of my legacy carts die. Some of these like Technos red are going for 100's of dollars nowadays. The EverSD community is very nice and helpful. Also, the advantage of having my whole collection on my VS when I turn it on is huge as I don't have to swap cartridges. Best 60 Euros I've ever spent.

Absolutely! It is definitely worth every penny. And I get at the end of that some people just love to put the cartridges in, and as cool as that is for me it’s still always all about the games themselves .

After your first video came out on the subject I went and bought one. I've been very happy with the EverSD. I will say though, that in addition to backing up the carts, the actual emulation quality of your own games is far superior on the Evercade compared to most other platforms. For instance I've tested both the Genesis mini and PC Engine mini and there's no question that the latency of running the same rom on the Evercade is much much lower and better performance and it doesn't have those graphical scrolling glitches that the othe minis have. So I'd have to disagree with you on one point! I'd say there is a point of spending the extra money to get an EvercadeVS along with the EverSD even for emulation purposes since it performs so much better than the mini consoles and best of all, you don't have to use that awful "retroarch" program that most other emulator solutions rely on. In practice I find Blaze's own internal emulators, the way the save states work, far more intuitive and easy to use and higher performance than that awful "retroarch" solutions that nearly every other emulation solution uses. Did I mention how much I hate retroarch? ;-)
@PKInTheUniverse
@PKInTheUniverse 10 дней назад
Yeah, in a lot of cases, blaze definitely does have some better emulation with the custom emulator they use versus retro arch, it just depends on the games. The other thing too is some of the games that are on Evercade are native ports and couldn’t be emulated anyways. I think nine out of 10 people are probably not too hyper focused on perfect emulation. Because if they really were focused, mostly on accuracy, it makes me wonder. Wouldn’t it be better to go get a MiSTer or something like that. It just all depends what you’re looking for. I definitely think the average person who buys games on Evercade mostly just wants to buy something that you pop in and it just works, which makes a ton of sense since they already could’ve went and bought some other Chinese emulation device , but sometimes those require you to fiddle around with stuff which a lot of people just are not keen to. But I also understand how great it is to have all your games on one single device along with the nostalgia of still being able to put in a cartridge.

@@PKInTheUniverse yes I think the issue with something like the Mister is it's just too difficult for guests to use. Thing I like about the EverSD solution, after backing up all your carts and running collection builder, it makes it super nice and simple for others to use when they come over with no guidance. I like to make those kind of custom collections too, I used Stable Diffusion to make my own custom cover art for my "shmups" virtual cartridge collection that appears with my other carts with games like Musha, Blazing Lasers, Life Force.

While i agree with the no piracy thing, my thing is, why not make it more of a dedicated backup device rather than it having the ability to have other games transferred to it? It could allow the device to actually be marketed as an official device which could allow them to have the actual Evercade kern and piracy software on it so it would make the backups official rather than burning its data to a new cartridge. That would atleast make it seem more honest, as lets be honest, if a device allows you to easily pirate games on it you don't own, chances are that is what its marketing towards with the fact you can burn you official Evercade games onto it being more of the mask.
@PKInTheUniverse
@PKInTheUniverse 10 дней назад
Here’s the thing they don’t advertise it as a piracy device, or even as an Everdrive . They advertise it as a 3rd party development kit. This will never be an official device. Blaze does not like that it exists. In fact in the past ,a little birdie told me , they tried to kill it altogether. I think a good example of why I think it’s good that this thing exists is because of the Morphcat Collection. The number one reason people buy that collection is because of micro mages . Sure if you want to buy the game micro mages individually on the NES complete inbox it’s like $60. But that game also goes on sale all the time. I bought it for four dollars on Steam and they include the ROM for free. And check this out, the other games on the Morphcat collection are all games you can basically get for free legally on itch dot io included in that collection. So what I like is the fact that I can put my EverSD in my Evercade VS And play a game that technically is on evercade and not have to go to the trouble of buying the cart since I technically already owned the only game I wanted to play to begin with. That is a type of freedom blaze does not want its users to have . And another thing I will say is it is not as “easy” to put games on this as it would be a $30 Chinese emulation device. You have to jump through a few more hoops. It’s not like you just put it on the cartridge and put it in the system. You have to patch the system. You have to download another program to put the stuff on the system. If you wanna back up your collections, you can back them up on your patched system, but you also have to download collection builder. For a lot of people that is so much more trouble than it’s worth.
@LordDiscord
@LordDiscord 10 дней назад
@PKInTheUniverse well my mistake, it's good if it's more difficult, but the allur of piracy is usually the actual selling point for a lot of these kind of devices because, while yeah it's a bitch in a half to do, it's vastly cheaper than buying a crap ton of Evercade games and the backing them up. It really does make a device like this only really worth it to the ones that own a large collection of games. It almost pointless to people just getting into the Evercade, which is usually why the piracy aspect is so prevalent, as it means that if I wanted to get into the Evercade and I had a good understanding on how to homebrew the cart, I can effectively get a bunch of games for free rather than blindly buying games, not being certain which ones I'd like and being out that money. To some the work it would take to pirate games on the EverSD and other devices like it, are usually worth it as it's an overall cheaper alternative to play Evercade games than to have to buy a bunch of games to justify owning the console. I can say, from my own perspective, I've been iffy on getting an Evercade as a lot of the titles I've seen far it I've either never played nor had much interest in them back when they were new, so I wouldn't really know where to begin. So I can personally see how piracy would be a big selling point to people that don't know much about the Evercade games as well as just don't have the money to drop on a lot of the games, especially ones that can jack up in price once they become rare due to being discontinued. Also I'm aware Blaze and many other companies hate devices like these due to piracy, that's why I feel I'd the could make it where it's just not possible to transfer anything on the cart that isn't an official licensed Evercade game, than it could be more marketable as an modern take to the old memory cards of the NES, Gamecube, Ps1 and 2 era, giving a full backup of your games and save data, just with the added bonus of playing said games through that cart
@PKInTheUniverse
@PKInTheUniverse 10 дней назад
@@LordDiscord exactly, unless you have a big collection that you want to back up, there is very little point. The thing too is most of the handheld’s have pretty crappy screens compared to any other Chinese emulation device , that goes for significantly less. Blaze does not want anyone with them having control of backing up the memory of any games. Even a separate memory card would be unacceptable to them. If it was really a piracy device, blaze would have a strong case to file a lawsuit to have it removed the way Nintendo got that switch emulator removed and made the people who are doing a pay a bunch of money because they had monetized piracy. The thing about emulators is they are not illegal at all, and blaze doesn’t own any of the games they publish on these carts . Though they do own the intellectual rights to Cadey the Evercade who is in thier version of Glover64 on Piko 4. It’s a really interesting situation to say the least.
@LordDiscord
@LordDiscord 10 дней назад
@PKInTheUniverse Well I would presume that if the company that makes the EverSD wants to maximize their profits they would try to go for the larger audience over the more neesh crowd, though that's just me. I'll admit I don't have much experience with many Chinese handhelds so I can't really say anything about their screen quality vs handhelds like the Ds or 3ds, though the prospect of getting free games with still be favorable regardless the console.
@PKInTheUniverse
@PKInTheUniverse 10 дней назад
You could say the same thing about Blaze. For as many big titles as Blaze has gotten recently they still haven’t exactly blown up or anything and had a breakout moment that transcends the niche they’re in. I don’t think the makers of EverSD are trying to get rich. They give the software away for free. This comes off as a side business or a hobby business, not quite like what even Blaze is doing who are still very much a small company. I think they’re just people who are incredibly passionate about Evercade and would like to push Blaze to be better.
