Each layer of Eversion actually has a title. And i believe it's meant to reflect stages of the mind slowly losing sanity. The stages are: Layer 1 - Eversion Layer 2 - Deception Layer 3 - Erosion Layer 4 - Desolation Layer 5 - Apprehension Layer 6 - Confusion Layer 7 - Commotion Layer 8 - Induction If you notice, the tone, music, and feel of each level seems to actually pressure and push the player slowly into thinking "It can't get worse then this..." Then it does.
@@h.9119 the way I see it the enemies in the game go from being alive to dead to undead. World 1-3 show everything deteriorating until World 4 where everything has died. But from world 5 onward, things are moving again but are increasingly demonic the further down you go. So what you said about world 4 being a turning point makes sense
@@h.9119 For me, Layer 4 is meant to be the one that basically tells you something is wrong. Eversion is the illusion of a cutesy platformer. Deception is the start of realizing something is off. Erosion is the feel that it is strange and unnatural. Desolation begins to give you a feeling of anxiety; especially with how off and strange toned the music is. When it picks up, it gives the feeling that something is following, or watching you. Each layer slowly builds itself upon making the player feel more tense and more on end with themself. Because it goes from a happy, innocent platformer; but everything about the layers, and the music, and sounds begin to paint a different picture making it feel so much worse as you go. The point is to give the player this strange puzzle of "It can't get any worse then this... right?" Apprehension is when the illusion is basically pulled from the game, and it doesn't even try to hide what it's doing anymore. Everything, from the music, to the demonic hands tell you; it's not going to get better... it's only getting worse from here on out.
And, of course, the ending is probably acceptance. It’s the only time the character actually walks toward the princess, so they probably realized what their true form was all along. Thanks for saving them! That sugary form was uncomfortable for the player character. 😃
Aww. They look cute together. Anyways, eversion, turning inside out. So X-1 is rotten to the core and looks horribly sugary, and X-8 is actually near-paradise, it just looks terrifying on the surface.
My friend, I am truly sorry for laughing, but world 5-4 and the pause made me laugh so hard. Like I don't know if it's intentional or not (either way thank you for not editing it out) but I think it's honestly a really clever way to add a touch of personality and humor to a No Commentary run, so props for that one too.
There is a special place in my brain in which this game forever lives in. This game is one of the most disturbing and unsettling games I have ever played. It's like, when you play it something always feels off about it. Even when you're in the happy world\default world. The game just gives you that off feeling in the pit of your stomach. If only more games actually gave you the same vibe as this one...
I mean, if you play it while completely in the dark thinking oh it's just some mario clone then i guess you could shit some bricks at the beggining, but i fail to see how it is even remotely disturbing and unsettling. Even sonic.exe and shit like that would be scarier imo

As for games like this, this isn't marketed as a horror game nor does it have some unnerving title to give itself away. It's simply a game that got released with nothing hinting to what it is. So there's no way you expect it to turn into a horror game. That's where the fear of the unknown hit. You don't know what's going on, all you know is whatever is happening is just unsettling. As for Sonic.exe, you know exactly what it is, you know exactly what you signed up for and you know exactly what it's trying to do. This game on the other hand, you don't know if you're meant to be scared or not, so all it leaves you with is a feeling of dread

Layer 2-3 seems closest to a normal earth. 1 is basically the world in a childrens cartoon. 4 and 5 are imperfect and dreary. 6 is kinda crazy. 7 is literally hell, and 8 is...Hell 2.0?

8 is where the aliens come from, 7 is pompeii, 6 is also pompeii, but a little bit earlier, 5 is Venus, 4 is time stop, 3 is our world during a crisis, 2 is our world in its normal state, and 1 is what the media wants us to think the world is like.

Eversion 2, with the metal pads in the background, clouds of painted iron, skies hung by cords, slight differences in decorative tiles, and enemy eyes nudged slightly conjoined looking like Sonic - It all makes sense, it looks like an actual not-bait-and-switch game of this gimmick should. It’s so good for the first stage, so well crafted for deception… But the cords and metal pads only foreshadow how artificial everything is. this game is masterfully crafted
I'm not entirely sure if the glitchy transitions between mess-ups is annoying or fits in with the game's style, nor do I know how you managed to make it do that. Even so, it's an interesting video.

shes is actually "tainted" by the reality of the world so she forces him on a quest to show him the horrors of the world. to live together he must also become "tainted" or if he stays naive she kills him then there is the indifferent ending where they never really love or hate each other.
not many people notice this but: the more you evert the more the enemies eyes conjoin, like in the first eversion layer they are normal, but in the second they are a bit closer, on the third they are so close it looks like a ninja mask or smt, and on the fourth they are just one eye, also the mouths slowly dissapear too like one the firsy its normal, on the second its halfed, on the third its like a quarter, and on the fourth its gone. thanks for reading if you did 😀
I don't know if that final ending it's good or bad because in one side you got trapped in the worse world but in the other side the protagonist and the princess are happy
The happy one refers to blissful ignorance, and the last one refers to acceptance But only in the stage 8 ending the heart appears (at the center of the screen), meaning that actual love comes with acceptance
actually, x-6 is a modified version of x-2's music, i'm not sure if it's slowed down or sped up since i can't hear it but i'm sure it's the other way around

I'm not crazy about the scares, but I'll be damned if this isn't a fantastic platformer, and the "evert" concept is fantastic. I would have preferred a more "kid friendly" art direction though :-P
