As usual, a clearly structured and competent video from Hans Beekhuyzen - thank you for your great work over many years! I always think it's extremely good that you're not being bombarded with the 1001st hard-to-reproduce audiophile description of the sound of these audio components, but rather getting reliable data and technical information. Because? Everyone will hear something different...
@@MrBiggmartin The device itself is brilliant. It’s the app… if you use Tidal connect ther’s no way to control the volume (or am I missing something?) so you need the app running in the background anyway. Also if I’m listening to the music and trying to go back couple of seconds using track progerss slider it isn’t working. Same from the display. I’m using wired connection. Tried on Wifi same story. If using Tidal integrated into app you can’t use search engine to search for the track from your favourites. It only works as a general search for the whole Tidal library. I’m still playing with it but can’t find solutions. Last thing I was told that it uses ir to pair with remote. No it uses bluetooth so I can’t paiymy Logitech Harmony so if you want to use it as a preamp you need the app all the time.
@@mmmdddd4358I use Roon with mine and have none of those little issues... Run both Tidal and Qobuz plus CD rips with integrated management in the Roon UI.
It shocked me how much better the ME was V my IPhone 15 Pro , as I only use Apple Music. It shocked me further when I switch from wifi to LAN. Then I upgraded my mains power switch to 63amps v 32amps , that also made a diff. Later I will upgrade the LPS. Great product , ease of use, terrific value. Well done Eversolo. I’m only using it as a streamer , into my Denafrips DDC- DAC. What a huge improvement.
I have the standard version feeding Audio GD R28 NOS dac I was looking for all around streamer and Eversolo fits the bill perfectly.Sound is sublime and unit is overall delight to operate
I have the DMP-A6 and I connect it to my Chord Hugo TT2 via the USB 3.0 output, it sounds wonderful, the Sabre Chip DAC does sound very good in the Eversolo, but the Chord takes it to another level, for reference I have Michi X3 with Bower and Wilkins 804 D4s, it is a wonderful sounding package 😀
@@Kah0ona my guess is this person wants the screen. Because I would love a streamer with no dac with screen and the ability to mirror to a Tv. Pulse let’s be honest dacs are constantly upgrading. Personally I don’t feel that they surpass cds yet even with their higher bit rate. But that’s because cds had three decades to refine the sound. Dacs will get there. Now full transparency I don’t own a $10000.00 dac. But my system is somewhere in the $40000.00 range. I’m not bragging sincerely as it’s the hobby that I have sunk most of my money in. And most of my kids are grown, so I was finally able to sink money into something I wanted.
I would also love to see a 'streamer only transport' from Eversolo, it's a pity to pay for the internal DAC if you use a superior external DAC all the time.
Hans, thank you for that comprehensive and very good review of the Eversolo DMP-A6 Master edition. I understood you found the sound quality of the DMP-A6 comparable to that of the Denafrips Ares DAC in your listening comparison. That’s very reassuring. I got last week an Eversolo DMP-A6 (basic edition) and have it connected (via single-ended RCAs and Digital COAX outputs) to a NAD M10v2 integrated and streaming amplifier feeding a pair of DALI Menuet SE bookshelf speakers and KEF KC-62 sub and so far I can’t detect any sound differences when streaming to the NAD M10v2 through either the RCA or COAX outputs or by streaming music directly to the NAD M10v2 using its own streaming BlueOS software and bypassing the Eversolo altogether. I’m no audiophile or Hi-Fi expert but I am very pleased so far with the overall sound quality. I should add that I also connected the DMP-A6 through the balanced XLR output to a Lake People G-108 headphone amplifier and I am very happy with the sound quality in this setup as well.
@@laurensvandenbroek1580 Hello As I noted on my comment above, yes I have the Eversolo DMP-A6 connected to a NAD M10v2 integrated amplifier/ streamer through the single-ended RCA output and also through the digital COAX output. However, the main reason for me getting the Eversolo DMP-A6 was to connect it to a Lake People G108 headphone amplifier, a well regarded HP amp. Initially I was planning on getting the NAIM Unity Atom HP amplifier edition. However, once I learned about the Lake People G108 and its superb sound quality and value for money as a headphone amp I decided to get the Eversolo DMP-A6 to use it with the G108 and I’m very satisfied with the results…. extremely pleased with the sound quality coming through my headphones from the Eversolo DMP-A6/Lake People G108 combo. These two devices are connected through the balanced XLR output/input. By the way, I’m also very happy with the NAD M10v2 integrated amp/streamer (using Bluesound’s BLUE OS streamer SW) as the hub for my audio/video system in the living room. Both the BLUE OS and Eversolo streamers are very competent and both have weaknesses and strengths. I find the BLUE OS streamer has a lot more functionality (like the subwoofer management function for example) while the Eversolo streamer management “skills” are superior (more coherent in design).
A well presented and very informative video about the Eversolo DMP-46 (Master Edition). I'm considering buying the standard model and this review really sold me on making the purchase. Thank you, Hans. New subscriber am I! 🙂
Thank you very much! I just purchased a Masters, and I found your review both reassuring and highly informative. My understanding is that Eversolo is rather poor at manuals… I have a peachtree gan1 digital amp ( which requires no dac, just a coax out connection directly into the amp…) and a 40 watt Class A. Really looking forward to seeing how the two compare.
Summit Audio. Owner’s name is Amir. Canadian internet direct seller. I’m extremely happy with the Eversolo so far. Excellent as both a streamer and dac.
NOT "VU"! Thank you! I thought I was the only one fighting that battle! The "VU' spec was very detailed in what Zero was, allowed overshoot, and how fast the needle moved! It was damped on purpose. The spec was to make sure everyone would get the same meter movement with a given signal. You literally would not want VU meters for anything these days. Definitely not for power out! But marketing loves them!
We need the direct comparison with sound clips of the Master edition vs the regular edition. Grateful for your time and information. Blessings always 🙏
Hi Hans, Thank you for your perfect review. I have the Eversolo master Edition with the Hegel h390 and two focal vestia 4 and the sound is perfect especially the bass not too fully not too less. Thank you soo Much please go further.
Ive had the master unit for around 1 month now. I use it for playing stored music on a nas drive including dsd files. Also via internal music stored on added nvme drive and also use Amazon prime hd. The sound quality is very good on all usages. Ive also paired it via usb and reclocker into a gustard x26 pro. To my ears the gustard output is a little higher sound quality than the output section of the built in dac. Looking forward to hearing the review.
I received my EverSolo A6 Master 2 weeks ago. I was not able to compare the non Master version with my unit. I'm looking forward to your thoughts. One significant thing I did notice was that using the balanced output even into a non fully balanced amp but using the XLR made a significant difference in impact and punch. Using the XLR/RCA outputs sounded exactly like the description given by Darko Audio in the base impact department. I don't want to give anything way.
I picked the master edition for my system, which is about $20,000. Have not tested the two streamers side by side but I would suppose the difference is not huge. I would say it probably depends on the level of your overall system and budget as to whether the difference is worth it to you. I didn't want to save $400 and later decide I should not have skimped... I would guess it would probably take a $10,000 plus system to hear much difference between the two eversolos. Hope that helps.
@@toddt5562 Good catch, my completed system is almost exactly $10,000 but it is resolving enough to hear the differences between any changes. Even cable changes spring out. Also I think in general an upgraded clock for a reasonable price is almost always a good investment for streaming systems.
One of the takeaways from Darko’s review is that the device allows you to control Apple Music on the device via the app, so you are using the network streaming and not AirPlay. That’s a decision maker for me.
Great video! Thank you! I just use USB from my MacBook to DAC or (LAN via Roon to my R26), then to a headphone amplifier and my headphones. This Eversolo got my attention because it plays Apple Music which I subscribe to but I don’t need this for the moment.
I to would appreciate if you contact the manufacturer for a standard version for side by side listening comarison of the extra investment of the master edition. As always, thanks for a good in depth review.
I know I could probably use the balanced xlr outputs or the analog rca ones to route the output to a separate headphone amplificator like the Gustard H16 ..... but I still wish It had a headphone jack on the front for ocassional headphone listening ... it is the reason why I am still undecided regarding this product. Other than that it fulfills all what I look for in a streamer
Hi, congratulations again for the great professionalism, how do you judge the quality of eversolo as a streamer? Does the master version bring any improvements when used as a streamer only? I have a totally battery powered optimized PC with USB jcat card to denafrips Terminator dac I was wondering if eversolo used purely as a streamer could simplify and increase audio quality Forgive me for so many questions, thank you
I ha ve no experience with your PC, so I van't say for sure. But it is my guess that the Eversolo will sound better than your PC but yet not up to the quality of your DAC. I would look at streamers like those by Auralic.
I’m using the DMP A8 which claimed to have very good DAC built in The Denafrips Ares outperformed the A8 by far. the Ares provide far wider, taller, depth (I can hear the sound stage and musicians far behind my front wall). and musicians focus and the soundstage than the A8. The A8’s streamer is highly capable. Now, I’m looking to upgrade.
good review Hans, but i think i will just keep my Pontus and get a better transport like the upcoming Denafrips Arces streamer transport. hope you have chance to review it soon
I have a DMP-A6 as well. I really like it. I’ve been using it with its internal DAC but of course have been wondering if I should spring for a really nice DAC. You said it was comparable to the denafrips ares ii r2r dac which I figure must be pretty good. Any need for an external dac then? I really appreciate your videos.
Thanks for this objective, non-hyped analysis. I've been delighted with the sonics of the basic A6 but considered using an ext DAC like the Aries for even better sound. Perhaps the master edition would be a better upgrade path. Is there any performance benefit to using an internal DAC instead of an ext DAC via SPDIF or USB w their additional processing overhead?
Thanks for another great review! When you used it as streamer bridge, connected to the Ares II DAC, how did it compare against your original Mano Ultra in your ref setup 2A?
The Manu MKIII Farad I use is, of course a bridge and not a streamer. But judging on the sound quality only I clearly prefer the Magna over the Eversolo Master Edition. But it has a great user interface, works great, has a very good DAC built in and a very good app for about the same money. It's comparing lemons and peaches.
Extremely well-made video, Hans. Coming from a non-technical background on my side, please forgive this maybe basic question. If I connect this unit to a receiver (Marantz SR8015), would I be better off using my receiver´s DAC? Would there be a way of utilizing the Eversolo´s DAC or should I just not bother? Thank you.
weer een fantastisch review hans! now one vital question please i own a great analog rig and a truly great MYTEK ADC CONVERTER BROOKLYN can i somehow connect it to the eversolo and make recordings from my record player through its internal storage of the eversolo?thanks hans!
The advances in the audio electronics world are growing by leaps and bounds, to the point that it will apply some pressure to higher end product lines.
I have now a Node N130 for a streamer to my Merason Dac 1, before that I had a Linn Selekt. Is it at big step up from Node N130 to the DMP Master edition, I will only use it to stream with ? I am now a Patreon sponsor but I would like to know more about the streaming capacity :)
@@TheHansBeekhuyzenChannel Okey, but im interested of the dmp master edition, but is it s better streamer than the Node 130, whats the biggest differens :)
Hi Hans and thanks for this. I have a question regarding nad 368. After seeing your review of it a few years ago, I bought this one. I don't expect you to remember this one very well, but I'm still asking you about the eversolo dmp - a6. dac will be an upgrade to nad's internal? I also have the MDC streaming module installed on my nad. Would like to know if there is an upgrade to my hi-fi? eversolo dmp - a6. vs nad 368. Hope you find time to answer this :) thanks again.
Yes, you could choose between *.wav and *.flac for ripping. Not every USB Drive works. I guess cause of drawn juice. But some report about some issues with booklet and cd informationen in folder management.
Hello Hans. I hope you are well and I would like to take this opportunity to thank you for all the information you have provided us. I'm currently looking for a streamer, and my initial option would be the Eversolo DMP-A6 Master Edition. Meanwhile I saw your video about the Atoll MS120, and considering that they sell for the same price, I would like to know which of the two you would choose for yourself. Thank you very much in advance.
I make reviews so that I don't have to tell every one personally how good a product is. If you watch my videos closely, you must be able to make up your own mind.
Great review, as a preamp to connect direct to power amp, does it any good compared to hi end preamp ? do you recomend this type of use ? or it will be better to have a nice pream and use it as a streamer ?
Of course not. Why else would people buy true high-end preamps. People with. money aren't idiots in general. Having aid that, for its price it has a good preamp.
Serieus werk, Hans. Goed gedaan!
I was wondering if you could take a look at the fiio r7. I am not sure witch way to go because it seems to be doing pretty much what the Eversolo is doing for a lot less. thanks
Hi Hans, Thanks for the very informative video. I bought the Master Edition about 4 weeks ago. Problem recognising SSD (Samsung EVO 970), keeps dropping connection. Managed to rip 4 cds to internal hard drive. When I tried ripping to SSD the unit would not recognise cd player (Rioddas External CD Drive, USB 3.0 Portable CD/Dvd ). Tried another cd player (Hitachi-LG GP60 External DVD Drive) and it was not recognised either, display started to flash on and off. Sent it back to retailer who contacted Eversolo who said they had identified a potential issue, when a certain level power-drain of the SSD and CD ROM (combined) is experienced - this can cause an intermittent response from the interface They think they can fix it with a firmware update. Still waiting for that. I updated the system when I received it 4 weeks ago. Do you think this is possible with a firmware update? Thank you.
Hans, love your Takes! The Master in the video. Would it be a good fit with the pontus 2 DAC? My system is as good if not better than this dac. Will I hear a difference in high res digital audio then using the dac in the master connected to my tube preamp? Everything else in my system is solid state. 200w biamp to B&W 703 speakers. Thanks!
A nitpicky minor question: what is going on with the coloured "noise line" at the bottom of the UI? (look for example from about 11:45 into the video onwards)
Not understanding this exactly, it’s not a receiver, it plays digital streaming services and it connects to a separate amp/receiver? My receiver is already capable of streaming, why would I want this ?
As a one piece streamer, dac, preamp, at the price seems like a good purchase. If I wanted to use it as just a streamer to my dac, a Pontus2, is the solo worth the price, over something like a WiiM Pro again just used as a streamer? Thank you.
@@TheHansBeekhuyzenChannelwill you please advise me, thank you! I am aware of Denafrips is coming out with there own streamer, soon available, as reported by Alvin from Vinshine Audio. But it is yet to be ready for home use because of limited software availability.
I like your reviews but this time I think that you toughts about the sound quality without dac could be better :) how does it sounds without internal dac ?❤
If the Eversolo leans bright, I think it could be a good match to my Dynaudio Evoke 50 speakers which tend to lean slightly warm. The only question is whether it is worth paying the premium for the Master Edition?
@@Rascallucci if you can afford the additional cost I’d wait for the dmp a8 which has the latest AKM chipset that has a warmer profile as opposed to the ESS chip in the a6 series.
Hello Hans, Since this unit has a digital preamp instead of an analogue one, does this mean that you lose information when outputting anything less than max volume? I am considering the master edition version to be used with some active studio monitors and was wondering if it would do them justice.
It could be interesting to compare against Auralic Aries G2.2. Are you going to review that one? I’m am looking for a music server/transport for my Gryphon Diablo 300 with built-in DAC. As music server now I use modded Mac Mini 2014 (that can play in direct mode) with linear power supply. Software is the former version of Audirvāna that doesn’t need subscription.
If outputting to an external dac do the various filters still come into effect or are they bypassed? I'm outputing to a Holo Audio May Dac and if they are bypassed I won't need to play around with them.
Am looking for a streamer that can incorporate dirac live. Do u recommend going for minidsp studio or a spare m1 Mac mini with a ddc like iris or Su 6? I am considering denafrips venus ii 12 as my dac, pairing with kinky studio m1 driving a pair of proac d2
Can you tell me if this unit supports replaygain, as I will be using it with an SSD playing local files. I currently use a tablet running Neutron Player. Thank you in advance.
@@TheHansBeekhuyzenChannel When I rip CDs to flac, I use replaygain (normalisation) so all tracks are same volume on playback. Neutron Player has reads this level from the tracks id tag data. The actual files are still the original levels, so if played on a unit without replaygain function, the levels are up and down. Not a problem with playing an album, but I play all 23000 tracks on my drive with shuffle. Many thanks, Tony.
If you're using an external DAC, is there any difference in sound between the standard and master editions? Also, the DMP A6 has a USB 3.0 output. Do DACs care if they're getting the digital signal from USB 2.0 or 3.0? I'll be using a Schitt Yggdrasil with this if I buy it.
There is a clear difference between the standard and ME when you use the SODIF output (which is the best way to connect a DAC on it). It uses superior clock crystals and they only have effect on SPDIF, not on USB. USB2 or USB3 are equal for audio since Audio Class 2 uses the same mode on bot USB2 and 3. In some cases there might be more pollution on the USB3 but, I have heard.
it does...I've used it for a couple weeks. You have to go into the apple music settings in the built in app and change that. EDIT: It defaults to standard CD Quality, but you can change the "music quality" setting to be hi res lossless.
I am very interested in this. Something to replace my aging Pioneer Elite N-50 DAC/Streamer (which I paid nearly $800 back when that thing was new!). I wonder just how much better this Eversolo unit is compared to my Pioneer Elite N-50. I can tell it already has plenty more modern features that my N-50 does not have, including that really nice display (compared to that dinky little postage-stamp display on the N-50). However the N-50 does not seem to want to boot up anymore (just sits there flashing the blue light) and I wonder if it is even worth trying to get it repaired. I think I will just want to replace it with something a bit more modern and after watching many RU-vid videos and reading many reviews, I think this Eversolo DMP-A6 Master Edition is really looking like exactly what I want. It will be going into a Marantz AV8802a pre/pro, feeding a stack of Emotiva XPA Gen 3 amps, which in turn are driving some Klipsch RF-7 floor speakers. I will also use the Eversolo as an external DAC for my Denon CD player. I also have dual subs, a REL Storm III and a Klipsch RW-12D. Yeah, this is no slouch of an audio system.
@@TheHansBeekhuyzenChannel Well! I just took delivery of the Eversolo DMP-A6 Master Edition this morning. So far, I am really liking it. I need to spend a little more time with it as it was just delivered this morning and I spent most of this afternoon tinkering around with it. I also installed a 4 TB SSD in it. So far I've played a couple of CDs using a Pioneer Elite DV-79AVI through the optical input on the DMP-A6. It did sound very clean and detailed. Tom Englund's voice came out clear on Evergrey's latest one that I tried out ("A Heartless Portrait") I have also queued up a couple of internet radio stations and was really impressed with how good they sounded, despite being compressed audio being streamed, especially Prog Palace Radio with uses a 320kbps stream. I just wish the damn thing would display the track and artist info like my Pioneer Elite N-50 did for internet radio stations. There were a few times I've heard something and I was like "Who is that? That is AWESOME!". Oh well, at least Shazam on my Apple watch does a good job at identifying tracks. At least this DMP-A6 has a MUCH nicer display than that postage stamp sized display on the N-50, though. I've added my digital music library consisting of over 19,000 tracks! I've tried a few FLAC/lossless tracks to see how they sound. For example, the album "The Beast Within" by prog metal act AmartiA sounds extremely clean and detailed on my setup through the DMP-A6. It gives me goosebumps listening to that like this! My initial impressions of the DMP-A6 are extremely good! Yeah, my music tastes are very heavy into the power and progressive heavy metal. I also got quite the collection of classical recordings as well, so I will have to bust some of that out and listen on this device! I absolutely CANNOT stand hip-hop or rap, so I refuse to listen to any of that. Also to add, yeah, the VU meters are pretty cool (people say those are not even "true" VU meters), but I'd love it if they had a spectrum analyzer display as well. Since this is basically a customized android setup, I wonder how difficult it would be to mod/hack it to include a spectrum analyzer display instead of the VU meters.
Hi, I have Eversolo DMP-A6 connected with my receiver/streamer Magnat MC 400 through RCA to RCA. It is ok? Can you please advise me what is the best way to CONNECT to have the best sound. My system is: receiver MC 400+ Eversolo DMP-A6+ speakers Wharfedale LINTON Heritage. Thanks
Hi Hans, Thank you for the informative video of the Eversolo. I am in the market for either a WiiM Pro + combined with a Chord Qutest DAC or use the eversolo master edition as a combination of a streamer and DAC. You would get this question a lot of times, that is which one would you choose, but I would love your honest opinion about the choice of the two. I know the Chord as a DAC is praised a lot for its quality, but is the eversolo remotely comparable? I am using a tube amplifier (Audiomat Prelude) and Diapason Ademantes II speakers (if relevant for you at all). Thank you for the response in advance! Love the channel btw :) Kind regards Dennis
@@TheHansBeekhuyzenChannel Hi Hans, thanks for the repy. I wanted to inform you that, after extensive testing, I have chosen for the Chord Qutest DAC in combination with the WiiM streamer. The sound balance, presentation and overall vividness of the music was just better compared to the DAC of the eversolo. Might be interesting for you to hear the difference as well :) Kind regards Dennis
Good day Hans, any insight into whether or not the Master Edition would also be an improvement over the Standard edition via its digital outputs? Or are all the Master Edition upgrades focused purely on the analog outputs / DAC? Thank you.
How do you stream the sound from this device to let's say Devialet Phantom; can you do it over WiFi? I have not seen in the settings shown, teh option for either WiFi out, nor BT out? Is the buyer expected to use a wired outbound device in order to be able to use wireless speakers?
What I find with these streamers with displays... Once you have Roon, the screen kind of becomes obsolete, apart maybe from the 'now playing' functionality. So with this, as with say a hifi rose streamer, I would never use all the touch screen stuff at all. Not to bash this product, it's just a general comment. I wonder how other Roon users feel about this. (BTW, this also goes when there's Tidal connect or Spotify Connect; one tends to use the streaming service's app)
I'm a roon user and I just got the master edition DMP-A6. I've only had one listen but in terms of your question. I rather like having the screen on the unit as opposed to nothing. It's an elegant looking piece of kit at a more than reasonable price. I output to a holo-audio May dac kte. Obviously early days in my evaluation but I'm hoping it will be good enough that I don't need to spend more money.
