I know this is an older video, but I just wanted to share that I've learned so much from watching these videos. I'm a self taught tech that's gone from being afraid of soldering for fear of damaging something to being very confident in my skills and abilities. I've gone from barely being able to solder two wires together to replacing IC's and SMD components with confidence. Thanks a ton, Alex!

Those resistors are in parallel.. 10 Ohms is parallel is 5 Ohms plus the resistance of the meter lead about 0.6 Ohms.. Totalling to 5.6Ohms 😀 Thanks for the smd manual website.. Helps a lot identifying smd components

I am always delighted watching your videos. Those 10 ohms resistors were reading 5.4 ohms because they are connected in parallel. Of course, getting 5.4 ohms means that both resistors are good. If one was opened, the other would read 10 ohms, assuming that it did increase in value because of a defect resulting from a thermal condition.

Very familiar with SPG’s. Connect your oscilloscope to the black burst BNC or H Sync and use a TV trigger, you should see Sync pulse train the black burst with 3.58MHz subcarriers burst on the back porch of the Sync pulse or in the case of hsync no burst. Testing both would give high confidence that all was well with the SPG

I ordered a CPU heatsink with fans off amazon once, and received it earlier than expected. Once I got it and mounted it, I thought, man I like this thing, it looks nice and kept my cpu temps down really good, sure be nice to have another one for my other computer. No joke, two days later, I received another amazon package I wasn't expecting, low and behold another heatsink with fans came in just like the first one and was only charged for one. Called amazon costumer service and let them know about it, told them I'd just buy it since I liked it and could use another one, they said keep it at no charge. It was a $50 dollar part... thank you Amazon.

Wow, just looked up what that thing actually is and it's used in broadcasting studios, costing several thousand bucks. It failed because of two parts that literally cost pennies which could have been saved by polyfuses also costing pennies. I'll never get these design decisions, but hey, great work on this, man. Always makes me think why repair work is often underappreciated. I guess it's the work done costs many times more than the parts itself. Also good to see there are still people out there who think otherwise and send you small gifts.

I think its cool that there are many compatible parts. I would think that if its a different name than the original that the insides of the component would be different and cause issues.
@ThermalWorld_
@ThermalWorld_ 3 года назад
You only need to know if the Mosfets are N-channel or P-channel. They are usually almost all the same. Some may vary between their wattage capacity or high voltage or low voltage "the high voltage ones are used in special cases" (For example these used for the cooling fan are just switch on off Mosfets). They are very common, you can find them in computer motherboards because they are low voltage and high amperage, even if they have different names. With a Component tester, for examples "TC1" It is much easier to identify them even without reading the codes they have written above
@pcb1962
@pcb1962 3 года назад
In a simple switching circuit like a fan control almost any mosfet of the right type and current/voltage rating will do, you have hundreds to choose from. If it's a more specialised circuit, high frequency for example, then the component must be chosen more carefully.
