The 2001 contest was hosted in Copenhagen, after Denmark won in 2000 with "Fly On The Wings of Love".

Behola™ I dunno. Maybe it’s a stereotype but there’s this idea that “heavier” songs do better in central and Eastern European countries, so those territories were feeling Denmark more than usual (countries like Russia, Ukraine, and Poland also seemed to really like it)

The stats: 7: Iceland 5: Ireland, Norway 3: Netherlands, Sweden, United Kingdom 2: France, Germany, Israel, Slovenia 1: Austria, Belgium, Croatia, Estonia, Finland, Greece, Hungary, Italy, Latvia, North Macedonia, Poland, Romania, Russia, Serbia Funny how Iceland and Denmark exchanging top marks wasn’t actually a thing until the year Terry Wogan said they always do it. Also, the hybrid system would’ve seen Denmark reach higher ground on top marks from Hungary and Italy in 2018 (but jury scores weighing down televotes would’ve meant very little from the Nordic neighbors - including nothing from Norway!)

Their 3 wins are their best entries,together with 1989,2002,2006,2011,2017 and 2018. This year Denmark is great as well!

I’ve always wondered why Terry said that Iceland and Denmark always exchanged 12 points with each other from 1999? Even in 1997, Terry said that Iceland always score well for Denmark. As a matter of fact, the first time Iceland gave 12 to Denmark was 1999, and the first time Denmark gave 12 to Iceland was also 1999.

As an Icelander, I'm embarrassed at how many of these came from us. I really don't know why. It's not like a lot of Danes live in Iceland, or if the two nations are particularly close.
