That's not a fair critique. The fact is, you were playing a Preussen and a Kurfurst while most likely trying to push considering you died to Smolensks (the range limitation of that ship implies you pushed)... Arguably every cruiser and destroyer in the game can demolish you easily. Sure, it happened to be Smolensks but really, I would've ate you for breakfast in a Hindenburg, Jinan, Nevsky, Des Moines, etc. The truth is, you're simply playing ships that are good at doing something bad (brawling) and it is very easily punishable. Reading your explanation clearly shows that it's not about playing AGAINST them, it's about playing PROPERLY which you most likely didn't. In World of Warships, battleships are not meant to push despite people really wanting to do it.

Depends. Super CVs and the Nakhimov are for sure. Though others aren’t as bothersome if you have other ships near you. Otherwise some of these HE spammers are far more deadly.

Depends on type of CV and BB you play. FDR against GK is a nightmare for GK. Montana against Audacious is doable.

They are smoking other ships with Smolensk.

To be fair, the reload and gun count are historically accurate.

yes, i got pretty juicy hits with HE on broadside Smolenks with the Thunderer.

@@vimadmax you don't need Thunderer, just grab the inferior version (aka Conqueror) to get some juicy citadel ribbons and you'll do just fine (maybe the dispersion will troll you but that's it)

your logic is flawed. tier 4 CVs exist and in fact are even more busted then tier 10 CVs because there are lots of ships that have little to NO AA at the lower tiers. most of the fun ship lines don't even get their interesting gimmicks until tiers 7 or 8 anyway as well

@@zacharyjackson1829 I know. But people don't play CV all that much at lower tiers. Yes, they are an issue but not as big of an issue. I used to LOVE my T8 American cruisers but they never leave port now, because they get sunk right off the bat by the CV.

Every ship is as good as the ability of its player. But some ships are much more forgiving and easy to play then others and it is not fair to other players. When WG introduced Minotaur line, they removed HE from them, cause they would be TOO STRONG due to smoke+HE combo. And broadside Mino = insta death against capable players. Smolensk? Smoke+HE spam, no AP citadels due to no armor (= overpens only) and longer hydro on top of that. How it that fair in any regard? In terms of light cruisers (aka fragile crusiers) you have Wooster, Mino, Plymouth, Nevsky, Jinan and ... this shit. Every other ship named has its weaknesses and can be taken down multiple ways. Smolensk is such a brutal deal to kill it is not even funny. That shit just sail broadside to you, laughing you in the face, using all guns, lighting fires and then smokes up and continue to farm you down. The hard counter to this thing are heavy HE ships like Thunderer and Conqueror. They both present another problem of this game (HE and its mechanics), with Thunderer being the OP one for sure. And similar to Smolensk vs. other ships, Thunderer is absolutely great due to dispersion, shell caliber and speed, fire chance and reload. It may not be SO big problem that is can permadestroy half the equipment of the DD (torps, AA modules, ...) in one salvo while doing 10k+ dmg, the problem is that NO OTHER SHIP can do this consistently. And that is the problem with OP ships. That they are much better than their counterparts.

And if you would take one in that moment which would you pick?

im sorry but if your biggest nightmare is a sub while playing as an extremely fast and maneuverable battleship with engine boost i have a hard time taking you seriously i could at least respect you if you said something like Kremlin or the German BBs this tells me you are likely a JB player that loves to sit bow in and die so a sub is just one of your many worries

Thunderer balance was ok. Now it is not as bs as before, when spamming for 24,5 km every 22 seconds was definitely NOT ok (I know what I´m talking, frying GK from more than 3km out of their range wasn´t probably a happy game experience for them). Smolensk is vulnerable to HE cits and cruiser AP, but in general its problem are fires, nothing else. Fire damage should be capped on like 100-200hp/s and suddenly all BBs wouldn´t have such a hard time to do anything

It has been for a few years now, yes. I managed to grab it before it got pulled but then the commander rework gutted the range so it’s not as insane as it used to be. Still very powerful though.

You can't blind fire at ships behind islands... the camera does not elevate enough

people love to blame the players but the fact is it isnt the players who introduced this to the game. do i wish everyone ceased to play CVs? of course. do i think that will ever happen? of course not doesnt mean every CV player is a toxic asshole
