Beartown is my favorite ever and I love how people finally give it the hype it deserves. And please keep reading the series because the last book is the best one. Trust me, it’s truly amazing!!
I totally agree! Longer wrap-ups are the best way to dive deep into the books 🥰 and Des always finds a way to make it fun! Keeps me hooked for sure! Can't wait for the next one! 📚✨
The Beartown series by Fredrik Backman is phenomenal. Backman is so talented at building characters and evoking emotion. I’m not a very emotional person and this series had me crying more than any other series I’ve ever read. This is a must-read series folks. It’s emotional gold
Annie Bot got ONE STAR?!?! It was a 5 star for me. The commentary on patriarchy and traumatic partnerships is sooooo on point. I related to it so much. I loved it. For anyone who has dealt with DV, cheating, or just deals with narcissistic men… read this- be warned, it’s deep.
5 star for me too..... Des's commentary on this one honestly led me to believe that she didn't realllyyyyy spend much time with it. it's amazing and SO ON THE NOSE! maybe a book like this is only loved by people who have some level of comparable life experience.
Me: I don’t need to buy any books for while Destiny posts a wrap up: *suddenly making notes of the next 15 books I need to buy right this second before doing anything else*
your wrap ups are some of the best!! love how much you loved the frederick backman books as both are on my fall/winter TBR and anxious people is my favorite book of all time
I unironically love the shadowhunters books. They also get so much better as you go on, the infernal devices is one of my favorite trilogies of all time.
Beartown=❤️❤️❤️ Planning to re-read it next month and then continue the series!! Recently read Ove and loved it too. And The Women and The Nightingale were also great!! Loved the rant about Reckless 😂👏
If you haven't read My grandmother asked me to tell you she's sorry by Fredrik Backman I 100% recommend. Such a good book just finished this and gave it 5/5
I just DNFed that book. I love Fredrick Blackman and I had such high hopes for this book. What am I missing? It feels so slow and pointlessly complicated with childish stories. Am I missing the point? Does it get better? I DNFed just over 100 pages in.
@@vansa14 i guess I enjoyed it because I could relate to Elsa. The beginning is kinda slow but the childish stories do make more sense as the book goes on. I laughed and cried throughout the book.
So excited for Fall reads!!! Thriller and Mystery reads, too!!! Cooler weather, leaves falling! 🍂 Spooky Season right around the corner!!! My favorite time of year by far!
The Book of Doors sounds a lot like Ink Blood Sister which is one of my favorite books this year! It has the same basic concept of books that contain magic, but it was one of the most interesting writing styles I have ever seen. It follows two story lines/characters and the author uses that to answer questions that are brought up and slowly flesh out the story. I don't know if that makes any sense, but 10/10 would recommend to anyone. It's a book that I literally won't shut up about
I pushed through The Mortal Instruments enjoying the story but hating the element that you’re talking about. Isabelle grew on me reminding me a little of Cordelia Chase from Buffy and I now have all the main Shadow Hunter books either digitally or audibly. I haven’t read them all, but I will definitely get round to it pretty soon.
34:31 From your comments, I’m almost certain you will like the last three The Mortal Instruments books better than the first three. Stakes are higher, character growth, new characters added, and the absence of your least favorite trope from the first three lol. I love listening to all of these through audiobooks. The British voice for The Infernal Devices audio is pretty good too.
38:20 I don't think she did it bcs people eat it up, I think she did it because it made "the dagger to the throat" THEIR OWN thing. It made it paedyn's and kai's thing and you could feel them trusting eachother a bit more every time a scene like this one came up...
❤ If you have not read The Bronze Horseman, I would absolutely recommend it. I read it over a decade ago and still think about it. I love Kristen Hannah too, ive not read The Women yet but i hope to soon. Happy Reading!!
So exciting to see someone else reviewed and enjoyed The Book of Doors as much as i did. More people should pick this up. A obscure book i constantly recommend is The Square of Sevens. Check it out
I agree with your thoughts on Reckless - it felt so repetitive. And the "pretend" relationship annoyed me so much. Like I saw so much hype and it was just not it...
omg i just finished City of Bones and also had to look it up and spoil it for myself. Currently in the middle of City of Ashe trying to get to the third bc I cant take this 😭
i really dont wanna spoil anything and i WON'T but reading the rest of the mortal instruments series i am incredibly nervous for des to read the 4/5th books.
As a massive horror and thriller books fan, I totally agree Murder Road feels more like a thriller. For me, the "horror" part it's a bit ambiguous and low develop.
I read a man called ove because of you des and it was so good. Instant 5 star for me and I also read how I’ll kill you and it was so disappointing, nothing of note happens until 200 pages in and I wanted to DNF so bad but I pushed through. Wasn’t worth it lol
I really like john Green and his writing, but as you say, i hate the MCs pov and thats because they just make me mad by how they think of something or what they do sometimes. And like you said, i understand that he's trying to capture a teenagers mind and he's spot on, but irl these kinds of teenagers make me mad too. So i just get frustrated with them even tho i know so many teenagers like them from my school, ... But the story lines and all are so worth it for me even tho the books aren't about something special, the world building and connections are so soothing and his work just comforting to me. It took me like a year to finish looking for alaska. Partly because i watched the show when it came out and how the MC had really shitty views of Alaska even at the end, but mostly because it comforted me read about Alaska and all of their friends and how they connected.
