I noticed this just now that moon's breathing forms represent the sun setting and the moon rising, with the first form being orange like a sun set and the last forms being purple and light blue being the late night for midnight
When kokushibo was a human the Cresent moon blades were made of air and when he became a demon these blades were replaced by kokushibo's flesh .sorrry if I am wrong.
They never really implied he had crescent moon blades just the breathing style\fighting style of crescent slashes he added his BDA into his fighting style with the tangible crescent moon blades

I think that the effects are somewhat real; it's just that you can't see it visually. For example: when Tanjiro changed the movements of the demon that uses directional arrows. Also, I believe that the breathing techniques work more effective depending on their environment, like Tanjiro underwater doing the whirlpool breathing form. The breathing techniques have a certain aspect of the element it's just not flashy as the anime/Manga represents.

But after reading the series there is definitely some effect of the elements even if they aren’t visually there because if not 50% of the actual abilities in demon slayer would make zero sense.

I how kokushibo and his brother use opposite forms. The sun is the enemy of demons, hence forth it is used by demon slayers. But The moon is technically the enemy of the demon slayers (we all know why) so it’s used by a demon. It’s REALLY cool, the rivalry of the factions really goes together with the forms.
I say just believe what you want when it comes to if the elements are actually produced or not. I personally find it way more fun to believe that water, flames, etc suddenly emit from the sword when a breathe style is used despite the author saying otherwise. There’s also instances in the show that totally counteract this suggestion. Some examples include ranged attacks (Tanjiro launching a slash of water as a projectile to cut a tree and Rengokus flame tiger) and Rengoku just raising is sword above his head when he blocks Akaza’s attacks. The way I see it is that the demon slayers wouldn’t be overpowered to have magic showing that demons have magic plus they’re immortal.
Yeah ofc it’s fun to want to believe that it’s real but it definitely isn’t, and the inconsistency is easily explainable if you reread the manga, but with sanemi I think we just gotta see it animated cause that’s pretty hard to explain ngl
The fact that the visual effects for each of the breathing styles aren't actually real makes sense, but it should also be noted that the effects of the breath styles and some of their forms literally could not be accomplished purely through actual, physical motions, meaning that there would need to be some (minor, but nonetheless still present) supernatural power at hand. It's not as if a change to one's mindset can allow a sword to cut through something far harder than it, or permit one to move at near supersonic speeds without consequence.
If you also go by the Lore of where Demon Slayer takes place and the culture. My girlfriend is apart of that culture. They use White Magic to fight off demons whenever I see my girlfriend's inlaws do their rituals to fight off demons. My girlfriend's family is not apart of that culture. So in Demon Slayer it could be a form of White Magic and the blood demon arts are black magic. White Magic is not always healing. That's just a mmo kind of thing and the thing that confuses me the most. One for example. Was when Rengoku does like 4th form to block akazas Air Type. Like he literally makes a flame wall and that one slice is blocking so many punch blasts lol.

Actually, I could believe that the visual effects have some truth to them. For example, mist breathing created a haze for Upper Moon 5, insect breathing caused the spider demon sister to see a butterfly and get confused (caprice), and Rengokus fire left behind scorch marks and smoke. Hell, sound breathing created literal explosions sooo
If demon slayer nezuko had a sword of her own she would probably probably being the key word here would probably use the love breathing sword style and could make up some movement unique moves sets unique to her that would be so cool to see her using love breathing to make her own sword movement styles with unique moves so unique that they have never been seen or heard of before and also what type of sword blade she would to make those movement would also be so cool to see
The argument that the demons wouldn't stand a chance against the demon slayers if they were literally harnessing the elements doesn't make much sense. If the slayers could use elemental magic abilities, then the writer would just make the demons strong enough to counter that. And even if the writer didn't and wrote everything roughly the same, the demons can only be killed by getting cut by the blade, so all the other stuff wouldn't result in them being overwhelmed significantly.
Even though the styles don't really appear as real they still let the user use semi magical abilities like superhuman strength and speed, moreso than the users normal superhuman qualities, and I don't think the slayers can create illusions normally, although I could be wrong about the illusions

I read that the creator of demon slayer himself often forgets and switches between the forms of the slayers being actually real or not. @@nuggetgaming472 The author himself added it in Manga, every elements you see are not actually there, they can only "feel" the presence of the element, like the water, when demons get cut or slashed, it felt like water was slashing through them, something like that. Or like in the recent anime, when tanjiro cut Daki, daki felt the burning but there's the no actual fire from Tanjiro's Himokami Kagura (sun breathing).

The thing about the visual effects that some people don’t seem to relize is that there not actually creating flames however everyone still sees the fire it’s just an illusion that’s how the mist hashira still does his thing

in rengokus fight with akaza, he uses his fourth form and as the air type of akazas blood demon art hit rengokus flames, they dissipate. even though rengokus sword is out of the way of the attacks

I feel like some of the forms actually produce the said element due to the users superhuman strength interacting with the materials of the ore they use for their swords. Like Zenitsu could generate static electricity, Rengoku could actually leave burn marks like the character from Kenshin X, Sanemi actually using vacuums from the strength of his swing to control wind etc
I think when they breath that form the elements actually generates on sword and can be seen for demons and demon slayers like Jojo stands but they don’t actually burns or make anything wet but the demon still feel them as each elements. When tanjiro use sun breath it glows on the ground like a torch in the dark also when cutting Daki neck you can tell it’s clearly glowing.

The mangaka made it clear they dont use magic but they are so powerful that for example: Rengoku actually leaves burnmarks on the ground when using the 9th form. I think the concept of the elements being used actually being there should be neutral. You can have two stances, Imagine they are actually there, or see it for what it is and how its supposed to be interpreted. I think even a simple explanation such as the different elemental deities seeing the dedication and discipline of the swordsman and so blessing them with more power so as to contend with the demons, would work. Or perhaps the individuals just draw on certain elements. Anyway, In a universe where demons actually existed.. magic is a thing, and so much other spiritual stuff is going on.. I personally do not find it to difficult to imagine elemental mastery by each slayer.

That is because the breathing styles were created only for killing demons and helping demon slayers, not killing humans and destroying places. When Tanjiro had that water dragon (Enmu fight) people say " the dragon riped his head of", no it didn't. If you look caerfuly the dragon pushed Tanjiro's blade deeper. If the elements were real, then Tanjiro's dragon would fall because of gravity, fire would burn everyithing.... The mimicked effect of the element serves demon slayers as a booster for their movements and attacks, like mimicked lightning incresing Zenitsu's speed, mimicked water incresing flexibility, mimicked fire dameging demon's bodies and making shields. But the mimicked effect works only on demon's attacks and bodies. I think they can see the mimicked elements because of their fighting spirt and confidence. You will ask me " If it is a mimicked effect of the element, how did Akaza and his clothes not get burned?" He did but his clothes regenerated too. Let me explain. When Tanjiro goes berserk and has blood eyes he uses hinokami to fight Daki he catches her leg and cuts it of with her sock and shoe, she regenerates her leg and clothes/shoe. She is UM 6 and Akaza is UM 3 so he has greater and faster healing factors then Daki. Ofcourse not all demons do this, but most of them do, in the manga and anime. Kokushibo's kimono gets torn to shreds, he had the same thing for 490 years and he was a good swordsmen so he probably didn't get hit that often and didn't see the need to repair it. When people say that Rengoku didn't make a shield of fire and was actually swinging his sword fast like Flash, I think neither is correct. First it is not real fire, it is energy (ki energy/spiritual energy) mimicking the effect of fire, and Akaza's attack was an air attack. That is right AIR. If it is mimicking the effect of real fire then that would mean: Fire needs and cons1umes air. That is probably how he was blocking it. Now if he really did move his sword that fast he would have probably killed Akaza, because no one moves that fast except Giyu when he uses 11th form but has to stay still to keep his calmness. This manga is in my opinion half shonen and half realistic. There are ghost children, transparent world, marks that increase power, movement, flexibility, mimicked effect of the real elements. Yorrichi was born with the mark and was the stongest demon slayer, people referred to him like a spirit, so he was probably some kind of demigod( hafl human, half god), he lived above 25 and was still in his prime at 86. So if he existed and all the other things that I said, we can probably say that some kind of higher force (God) gave him the mark and the ability to mimic the effect of the Sun's fire. It probably made Yorrichi so he can scare/kill Muzan to end his tyranny. It probably made the ability only to mimic the elements and hurt only demons because demons are evil and no one should have the power like Muzan and the power to destroy everything with elements. Now the last two things before I end this essay, due to the Japans belif in many Gods it was prbably Hinokami (fire god) that made this mimicking ability. 2nd thing is Akaza did have burn marks in the anime and the manga. After he put his fist through Rengoku, you can see the side of his face has burn marks, in the anime they are colored and in the manga they are black. Due to the fact that Rengoku used a large amount of mimicked effect of the fire it realy burned Akaza. Both addaptations are correct. When you really burn something in real life (meat, flesh) it is black and burning yourself when you lose a limb can stop 90% of the bleeding. That was why Akaza wasn't bleeding so much. He didn't burn all the way because he is a demon and has high resitances but he is not invincible. He didn't feel pain because the sun only causes him pain. Now this whole essay was based on the authors statement and a little bit of theory. And again: THOSE ARE NOT REAL ELEMENTS, IT IS PROBABLY AN ENERGY THAT MIMICKS THE LOOKS AND EFFECTS OF THE REAL ELEMENTS. If the effects were real, it wouldn't overpower demons cuz water breathing would just wet the strings of Ruimahballs. And the "effects" would only happen when the forms are used, and this is probably happening because some baby gained magical stuff when they were born (Yoriichi) and attempted to share it to everyone but everyone got their own stuff instead, but there are severals proofs this is fake because nothing gets burned/wet/blah blah, tho some proof also exists saying they are real, Older Brother (Spider Demon): Why is the air vibrating?! Scene: Zenitsu preparing his Breath Of Thunder first form: Thunder Clap and Flash, Sixfold while bunch of electricity pops outta him. (This is probably happening because he got struck by lightning, after all it didn't just give him free hair dye.)
Water can actually burn stuff, just saying. There are things that some styles are better at, of course, but fundamentally, all of them can serve each others' purpose.

i beleve that elemenst are summond for each breath style this is why - 1st when rengoku cuts head of demon in infinite train arc, wound is clearly burning, 2nd when mc uses move on mother spider in forest arc she feels rain falling on her. 3rd in fight betwen 3rd and rengoku when he uses secret technique in final move against him wounds beeing shown as burning or even melting down. 4th. red sword can be obtained only by severly highting it up even more then in forge, this is why rengoku had red blade bc of hes flame style also when mc uses hes god dance breath style sword is shown as red, even before its heathen by blood power of nezuko. 5th odler sister in forest arc didnt known whats happend when she was atacked by bug style pillar, she was acting like she was in some kind of illusion that why im beleving that bug style or instect style is showing ilusions just before atack. btw mist guy clothes are samurai clothes that they have in house, for comfort. they are not oversized they are just that kind of clothes. also demon would be not overpowered. bc of there healing proporties. and why sun breathing style is not allowing to heal wounds if there is no element in styles.

Wind breathing’s third form is actually not an offensive form If you see the faint trails of the katana you can see that sanemi’s holding it straight up. It is not meant to attack and dissect demons but is actually made to deflect any attacks and projectiles
Larzae is speaking facts about the visual effects there is a manga panel where the author explains so, but even without that the show literally explains how breathing styles work and they never mention elemental attacks plus two people in show don’t have any elemental effects with their attacks. “But what about the waterfall basin attack stopping his fall??” He counteracted the moment of the arrow just before he hit the ground. All demons in the show have only been killed by sun or nichirin blades or muzan lol. All fighting styles are representative of their name like zenitsu attacks feeling and sounding like lighting striking and iguro moving like a snake with his sword to do long reaching flexible slashes.

I think that the visualizations are also somewhat spiritual, as sometimes it seems like other demon slayers and some demons can see the visualizations, like when Akaza and Rengoku fought Akaza could see Rengoku's "fighting spirit" and it looked like heat and flame, and the supposedly not real visualizations have actual effects on the world around them, primarily on blood demon arts like when Rengoku blocked Akaza's projectiles with flames and when Tanjiro redirected several arrows using his water
Akaza's shockwaves weren't made by his flesh/blood. Instead, Akaza punched empty air in front of him [this was stated by Rengoku in the Manga], unleashing a bunch of shockwaves towards his target. Knowing those are "air type attacks" [not dense] isn't it safe to say Rengoku blocked those projectiles with "air type defence"? As anything that moves in motion, will make a disturbance to the air✈️💨 In the last minute of the battle, Rengoku overcomes the strength of Akaza for a moment, Thus we can say Rengoku has the capability to cause large disturbances to the air as well. But the Mangaka replicates it with fire instead as he is Flame Breather. Ironically, Inosuke has a similar technique [but he used both swords]. I wonder why he only used it to block air-type attacks [Douma's frozen mist], and not to solid projectiles. 🤔 I used Inosuke as a prove, that whether the effects were there or not, you still can block those projectiles. Yoriichi didn't choose the kamado family as his successors. Yes it may look like that but if you really look deeper in Yoriichi's personality. He didn't show his Sun Breathing just for show, no he showed his skills becauses It was a friendly request of Suyako. And with that Yoriichi giving his hanafuda earrings doesn't mean he is passing his Succession to Sumiyoshi, no it was farewell gift to the kamado family. And from that Sumiyoshi Promise he will preserve the sun breathing by passing it down from father to son. To remember that Yoriichi is not a man with no Worth because if it wasn't for Yoriichi saving The Kamado Family from a demom while Suyako was pregnant they wouldn't have survived.

Okay since a lot of ppl claim with no hesitation that the elements are purely symbolic, there is no concrete answer to that. But we’ve seen several times the elements being shown as corporeal because they’ve been used to block attacks before. Also, and this one is pretty obvious, must breathing would do literally nothing if the mist was “symbolic,” and we know that symbolism didn’t get these hashira to their positions. Also moon breathings whole thing is that the moon effects are actual cuts, letting the attacks be decimating to anything they hit.
Take a shot every time he says the visual elements aren’t real. Look man, I think even if the elements did exist it wouldn’t throw the world into disbalance. Maybe the visualizations are temporary effects seen and felt but leaving no significant lasting effects, IE: flame attacks burn when struck but don’t set fires. If A) Demons exist and have absurd supernatural powers B) Normal humans are able to keep up with the strength, speed, and abilities of demonic powers And C) The users of these breathing sword forms can indeed pull off the still insane physical abilities required in the anime (IE: running stupidly fast, spatial awareness, creating afterimages, clotting internal bleeding with just breathing, crazy physicality with jumps flexibility and reaction times) Then I think having a temporary but still in-world visual/sensory effect with the forms is perfectly fine. I mean c’mon explain thunder clap and flash Godspeed with no visual effect! “Oh yeah, he just pushed a demon at crazy speed for a long distance to the point his legs bled and the blood was blown away by the wind speed normally, what you can’t do that?”

This form is different every time the user uses its. The user analyzes the best way to kill an opponent with all the information they have to make the perfect attack to kill them.

Sorry for this long comment, but Kaigaku actually used the true forms of thunder breathing when using 2-6. His blood demon art burned away at Zenitsus flesh, it didn’t add to them forms aside from changing the lightning color if that makes sense. So yes, we have seen the true 7 forms of Thunder breathing
nah kaigaku added his blood demon art to make it so that it's like actual thunder but it cracks the skin of his enemies. the actual versions of the 2nd-3rd form is just the user throwing fast slashes and the 4th form is combination of 1s 2nd and 3rd form 5th form is just 4th form but more focused 6th form is just a combination of all the forms
No. Demon Slayers being able to conjure and/or manipulate elements wouldn't be anymore convoluted than the demon's having "Blood Demon Arts". Plus it'd make more sense, since it would be the counterpart to BDAs, and make it more believable that "humans" can combat demons (somewhat like how the "Slayers" from Buffy the Vampire Slayer got powers to defeat demons).

Just wanted to say that the elemental effects being real or not is pretty much up to interpretation and not very clear. You have stuff that can prove it’s not real but other stuff that could prove it is, like the thunderous sound Zenitsu made while fighting the spider with a demon head, he used his signature thunderclap and flash and it made a sound so loud that Tanjiro and Inosuke heard it from pretty far away. So yeah, it’s up to interpretation and there’s no wrong answers imo.
I'd like to say that none of this is magic. It could be considered magic, but it's not magic in the traditional sense. A Blood Demon Art might as well be the same as a Breathing Style. And Sun Breathing by itself does not create long lasting scars, you need at least equal power to said demon you are fighting. And there's no way to explain this other than that the effects are actually real. Let's see. Waterfall Basin multi-hits, Whirlpool makes an actual whirlpool, Kyojuro's Sea Of Flames exploded a demon in a singular slash, Tanjiro's Clear Blue Sky blew up the train.
Actually it's very confused about the actual presence of the elements of breathing. There's a lot of time where characters actually saw or heard the elements (Like how simple simple slashes are affected by Yahaba's arrows and not Water Breathing's one. Or even Tanjiro who heard Zenitsu's breathing technique in Natagumo mountain and in the train. And even the Spider Mother who felt the rain on her skin, as well as Spider Sister who touched and saw butterflies in Shinobu's Insect Breathing..). I just like to imagine that there's actually some kind of magic, even a few, in these techniques (I mean Rengoku could litteraly BURN Akaza's during his nineth form as shown in the anime when Akaza begs Rengoku to turn into a demon)
I believe that the implication is supposed to be that the users breath arts are more superhuman than supernatural. In the style of old IRL legends such as Miyamoto Musashi being able to strike so fast that it seemed like he was attacking multiple times in a single swing. You could make an argument that sun\flame techniques are either hitting in a way that creates a wound that's hard to heal or that they're outright hitting so fast\hard that they cause a frictional or kinetic burn. Of course all this shit goes completely out the window when you start getting into Demon blood arts. Those are blatantly supernatural. Unless they're supposed abstract some wierd wuxia wire kung fu stuff. Anyway TLDR it's legendary physical feats so ridiculous anyone watching might consider it magic. Not literal magic.
It’s not confusing at all. They aren’t real. It’s an anime, so of course the characters can do something’s that just aren’t possible, that’s to be expected. So the slayers definitely do things that seem like they have powers or abilities but the elements aren’t there. The demons would stand no chance otherwise.
The sword effects are actually real. Just kidding. I think it's up to interpretation. There's no way that Tanjiro bested the arrow demon's attacks without using water.
When I first watched the first few episodes of Demon Slayer, I thought that the demon slayers would just be really strong swordsmen and that the demons would be pretty much just vampires, and I was perfectly fine with it, although the opening did confuse me a little and got me thinking "okay, maybe they *will* have powers huh". Tanjiro's training with Urukodaki still fitted my original idea of no special powers, so when Tanjiro first uses Water Breathing during the Final Selection, I was confused as hell, thinking I missed something, because I didn't remember them ever mentioning water magic or whatever. In the next arc(the one abouth the swamp demon) is when I realized that demons would also have magic powers, but at least that was explained. By the end of the Asakusa arc, I had fully accepted the magic breathing stuff, because that shit was so cool. In the Tsuzumi Mansion I really liked seeing new powers, namely electricity and...beast? Well whatever that meant, Inosuke was cool. During the Hashira meeting I got really hyped to see the powers of the Hashira. I could easily imagine what Flame and Wind would do, but I was really hyped to see how the other breath styles would work, especially Love and Serpent. After season 1, I wasn't able to watch the Mugen Train movie in the cinema, and didn't try to find it online. By the time season 2 of the anime came out, I had completely forgotten Demon Slayer existed lol and only really got back to watching a few months ago. A little before starting to watch it again I first heard about this fact that the effects of the slayer techniques are just that, visual effects, and it completely confused me, but at the same time explained a lot. But I still found it lame. When I started rewatching DS, everything became much more lame initially with this knowledge lol but I eventually learned to turn my brain off and forget about it and continue enjoying the great fights and animation. This fricking bible i just wrote is something that has been in my mind for more than a month now and I just wanted to write it somewhere
