Work to rule = Do your job to a tie. When did work to rule become industrial action?. If a company cant operate by employees working to rule its a clear sign the company's management are either useless or abusing employees contract terms or both.

Paschal Donohoe sold off the last 25% of Aer Lingus owned by the State for a chicken feed price. Now O'learygarch's Ryanair owns a large chunk of it. Is it any wonder the Privatised airline opposes pay and conditions for staff and pilots?

Why not agree to what pilots want? I am sure ,not agreeing would cost Aer Lingus substantially more( with refunds, accommodations etc for so many passengers affected) . Aer Lingus phone line is no longer working so no one can speak to anyone to know anything. This becomes a chain reaction for people who have booked hotels,tours and activities in Ireland.

Me and my family are due to fly to Portugal next Sunday. We purchased our flights on Aer Lingus last year and paid €1500 return for 4. Yesterday I got online and booked a Ryanair flight to the UK and then another one from there to Portugal and the total one way was €378 including bags and seats. It has made me a realise how ripped off we are being here in Ireland. Next summer I’ll be doing the same thing. Thanks Aer Lingus for waking me up.

They're not on strike yet. They're simply working their published rosters and nothing extra. The fact that the airline cannot operate their schedules unless pilots work their days off or overtime raises some serious questions about their management. The airline sold tickets, knowing they'd have to rely on their pilot to work days off, etc. At the end of the day, everyone in Ireland's spending power has reduced as salaries have not kept up with inflation. The pay rise simply addresses that.
@annettereddall8982

@Curiousmonkey1 11 дней назад
@@michaelclarke431 you've clearly put a lot of effort into that response. Please elaborate on it. I suspect this is a case of, "They earn more than me! They're overpaid", rather than doing any research into the industry etc. The payscale is quite complex depending on years served, rank, fleet etc. You might be happy for your spending power to erode, and not do anything about it. The airline scheduled flights, knowing they had insufficient pilots to crew the operation. Look at the disruption caused by working to rule. In other words, pilots not working days off or overtime. Yet the the same executives who overseen this in Aer Lingus have bumped their income up by up to 66%. I fully support them. It's time more irish workforces demanded better rights and pay instead of share holders and high end execs reaping the rewards.
