Big thanks to Little Shellder for help with the Shield dex footage (since I only had Sword)! She does a lot of fun shiny hunting streams so you should sub to her: ru-vid.com
We need a pokedex entry for Nidorina or Nidoqueen saying "this pokemon can produce offspring, but for some unknown reason, they refuse to mate in captivity."
And in nature😂 it makes no sense seeing as how nidoking's dex entry basically says only a nidoqueen is able to calm down a rampaging nidoking...now i get why he's so angry😒
Nidoking: "No! I am not defeated! I will gladly take that Snickers, chomp down on it and I will continue finding the piece of Lego that I have lost since I was in my early stages of being a Nidorino!"
What's interesting about the dex entry for Metagross that you mentioned is that even though permanent magnets do tend to denature more slowly as temperatures decrease, they don't actually get stronger in the cold. However, electromagnets do get stronger as temperatures decrease because the metal in wires (or whatever the equivalent in Metagross's body is) becomes more conductive as the vibrations of atoms decrease. This means Metagross uses electromagnetism rather than containing a permanent magnet. I don't know if that is consistent with previous dex entries for it, but I believe it is, so good job Gamefreak, way to do your homework.
To explain why Kabuto's dex entries contradict eachother, we should remember: Omanyte and Kabuto are version exclusives. Kabuto's dex entry in Sword says that it is in the brink of extinction, which makes sense since Kabuto cannot be found in the Crown Tundra in Sword. This coincides with Omanyte's Sword entry since it says that it has populated to the point of being an invasive species. Kabuto's dex entry in Shield says that sightings of it is fairly common in some places, which makes sense since Kabuto takes the place of Omanyte in Shield. This implies that Kabuto is inherently a less invasive Pokemon than Omanyte is.
There is an easier exsplination: the galorians are the dumbest people to ever walk the face of the earth. These are the same people who have DNA testing technology that can work on fossils yet they still make clearly impossible abominations that have permanent “KILL ME!!” Faces on them. Heck the Pokédex entries say THEY SHOULDN’T SURVIVE!! There inteligence is on par with the people in the movie “idiocracy”
Dragonite, Flygon, Altaria, Noivern, Salamence and Appletun: boy do we understand Rayquaza and Zygarde: We are legendary, we don't fear any.... oh ice? Nevermind
fun fact about regidrago: Regigigas wanted to create a dragon from dragon energy but only had enough to make a head. Kind of terrifying if you think about that
Sword entry said that scientists believe that the dragon arms of regidrago is believe to be the head of the ancient dragon, but that they sont have proof
26:20 I think the legendary bird pokedex entries make the most sense if you consider the Japanese names for Articuno, Zapdos, and Moltres are "Freezer (フリーザー)", "Thunder (サンダー)", and "Fire (ファイヤー)". Known as Freezer, this Pokémon fires beams that can immobilize opponents as if they had been frozen solid. When its feathers rub together, they produce a crackling sound like the zapping of electricity. That's why this Pokémon is called Thunder. The sinister aura that blazes like molten fire around this Pokémon is what inspired the name Fire. So instead of these Pokemon being named after Pokemon from Kanto, I think its saying they were given the same names for different reasons.
started coughing cause im just imaginig if they kept the names fire thunder and freezer like in my mind im imagining a skit where its this kind of intimidating voice and it goes: Fire, Thunder, Freezer
@@clichedeamon3277from the ashes of a volcano comes fire, the bird of blazes, from the darkness of clouds emerges thunder, the bird of storms, from your local Walmart comes freezer, the storer of cold goods
On the topic of Foongus: They are a fungus therefore they could potentially have mimicked the poke ball design to draw in trainers to stun them, poison them, and wait until they begin decomposition. Then they eat.
"when a Kingdra and a Dragonite meet, a fierce battle ensues". Man, family reunions between the dragon trainers of Johto would certainly be an interesting spectacle. Also this gives me a hilarious image of Clair and Lance having a super intense battle, and the other Dragon specialists are watching it from the sidelines like it's a movie; popcorn and all.
I could actually see that being why Clair chose Kingdra as her ace rather then Dragonite: Its the natural enemy to her cousin (and main rival) Lance's Ace. Kinda like how Blue always picks the stronger starter to Red specifically to have an edge.
With Legends Arceus adding new evolutions while being set in the past, I really hope Dunsparce gets an evolution that references its Sword/Shield dex entry.
I actually have a theory for why some dex entries contradict: *the Pokedex for each region is written by that region's professor.* Professors have different theories about certain Pokemon. This could explain the Kabutops contradiction: Kukui thought he found out why Kabutops went extinct, but Magnolia disagreed.
I Always thought the trainers wrote them, considering how so much information is ridiculous, contradictory to other dex entries, and is sometimes litterally just a fairy tale or scary story meant to be told by campfires
not really the Pokedex itself is the one who scans the pokémon and does its entry so It is the famous plot convinience stupitity no professor has input on It so the only ones who can be kinda wrong or lying to us is the sun/moon/ultra sun/ultra moon entry's or the legends Arceus ones
Lickitung, meet the two fire/bug pokemon (centiscorch and volcarona) Licking, meet the 8-foot unovian speed demon(scolipede... seriously though, considering that like numbers below 100 are normal in that gen scolipede is FAST)
Upon further research, Lickitung: Height 6'6" Speed: 30 Lickitung is shorter than buzzwole(7'1"), but buzzwole is only a bit more than twice it's speed(only about 70, so buzzwole needs to be careful to not stay still for too long or it'll get eaten. Scolipede is bigger than buzzwole(8'2") and extremely fast, outspeeding buzzwole(a whopping 112) so lickitung is a no on scolipede Meanwhile Pheremosa, like scolipede, boasts an astounding 151 speed, but, funnily enough, is SHORTER than Lickitung, at only 5'11"
I know this old but him reading the foongus one just makes me want to talk about all the lore Pokémon Scarlet brings, it’s so much and it’s so amazing just seeing it, mega evolution is just waking up dormant genes, but because it’s been so long they still look different and the fact brute bonnet still looks like a pokeball means there’s more of a reason for that then just looking like a pokeball, something in the prehistoric times made it a useful adaptation, and it just makes me want a full on teen rated Pokémon game where you have to try and befriend them without pokeballs to catch them
@@Aaron-hv4hr this seems credible as Mega Stones derive from the same Energies that made Kyogre and Groudon godly strong but are a fraction of it only meant for certain mons worthy
Pokedex : No matter who you are, if you bring strong emotions near Hattrem, it will silence you violently. Me: Loses a shiny Hattrem: Now This Is An Avengers Level Threat.
I lost 2 shinies because a phone update reset my emulator data, and it didn’t hurt for a lot because I got a shiny pidgey on my new save file of firered
So i believe that dex entries are canonically different from each regions as they are different environments and as for the amonite it said " *Almost* Entirely" and also it kept hardening it's shell so
"Cryogonal turns into Water Vapor" could you imagine if there was a water type or a water-flying type regional Cryogonal in a region that's just constantly hot?
See, this is why Alolan forms shouldn't have just ended up as a Gen 1 wankfest. Alolan Cryogonal has to be one of the bigger missed opportunities since the scrapped Mega Flygon.
The meteorite strike mentioned in Calyrex’s entry must be the same meteorite mentioned in Eternatus’s entry. Ice rider Calyrex’s Shield entry says that it moved a forest overnight to save all the Pokémon there, which is likely also the meteorite event. This means that the location of Eternatus’s meteorite is somewhere without any plants, and that Calyrex is over 20,000 years old.
According to a video by Bird Keeper Toby, the forest Calyrex moved was the Slumbering Weald, whose original location was what is now Stow-on-Side as an extension of Glimwood Tangle, and its current location of Postwick is much closer to the Crown Shrine, in fact it's the border between the Crown Tundra and the main part of Galar. No one from Postwick to Wedgehurst (Hop notwithstanding, of course) dare even mention the events of the darkest day or the wolves. But the folks of Stow-on-Side and Hammerlocke and even Circhester mention the legend of the darkest day and Stow-on-Side even has a shrine dedicated to the heroes. True, it was covered up by graffiti, but a certain Copperajah happened to tear it down to expose the truth.
About Cryogonal becoming vapor on warm tempratures: In our world there is a jellyfish that kinda of dissolves it's interior and after a while a new jellyfish is born from that dissolved jelly. Cryogonal may work like that.
Imagine this Pokédex entry: “A primal salamence once wished before Jirachi for itself and its kind to grow wings. This wish is the only known wish granted by Jirachi that still has an effect til this day”.
I just like to think the creator of the pokeball in the Pokémon universe saw a foongus and thought “oh that is a cool design I think I’m going to use that somewhere in an invention of mine” (okay well maybe not those words exactly but kind of along those lines) I just think that would be cool and would make sense, foongus didn’t adopt the pokeball pattern it inspired the pokeball it’s probably not the reason for it having the pattern but I think it is a good idea
Nah, I think it's because humans are their main food source and they evolved the pattern to lure in travelling trainers. They know people can use extra Poké Balls to store items, they saw that people tend to drop those items, and they aware that other people like picking up these free items.
22:08 That's based in reality! I'm a biology major at Bridgewater State University, and I learned from my Ecology professor that vampire bats will share blood meals with other members of their groups because vampire bats will die if they don't consume blood every, like, sixteen hours. So that entry about Golbat is based on real-life bats!
@@Kyle-vq9bx Understandable LOL. I'm not actually studying them, I just used them as an example for the animal behavior I studied. Although there is a chance a pangolin could have started this as well 😅
Ice Rider Calyrex seems inspired by a legend about St. Joan of Arc doing the same with dying Englishmen and Burgundians she had just defeated in battle. I think that her being an inspiration fits in the knight theme a lot of Galar has going.
"Oh really? People of the Galar Region. This pokemon that's constantly on fire is feared as a cause of fire?" Every 60 seconds in Africa, a minute passes
I think with fossil pokemon, none of the fossil pokemon are perfectly restored. I think just like in Jurassic park (which Aerodactyl's amber is a reference to), they didn't have enough in the fossils to completely revive the pokemon, and so they had to mix in other bits of DNA in order to produce a living species. The fossils introduced in Sword and Shield clearly demonstrate that fossil reviving technology can create brand new pokemon that never existed before. I believe the incompleteness of the fossil pokemon is why they're ALL (pre gen 8) rock type. It doesn't make sense that all ancient pokemon would be rock type in the past. Anorith was probably bug/water, not bug/rock. The rock typing on fossil pokemon is a result of the revival process which restored them to life.
I think the reason that Kabuto’s Dex entries contradict each other ins because Kabuto is exclusive to Sheid. Meaning that you won’t be finding them in the wild, making th rare if you do find them.
For the Exploud entry: We know that humans and Pokemon were at one point functionally the same. Humans even married Pokemon so it's likely that ancient humans could understand Pokemon as well as Pokemon understand humans and as time went on and humans became more distinct from Pokemon we lost that ability. Even in modern times there are a fair number of humans with Psychic powers , some that can use Aura and unique characters like Iris and most notably N that can understand Pokemon perfectly (For Iris it's just Dragon types). Since humans can have these traits that let them understand Pokemon it's likely that the ability to understand Pokemon used to be a universal trait among humans. So back in ancient times an Exploud yelling loudly to the next town would be as effective as if a human had a giant megaphone because both would be understood.
No one gonna mention how the Golbat entry is based on real Vampire Bats? They share blood with each other because they can't go for long without consuming blood. It has something to do with the nutritional value of blood, if I recall.
@@Sncyuki if you mean the irl vampire bats, no they do drink blood. They've landed on horses and can sit there drinking until either it's full or gets shooed away. They don't ONLY consume blood, and they won't kill the animals by bleeding them dry like some people think, but the wounds are deep enough to cause infection. Edit: as an interesting side note since I've had to kill some that were biting horses during a summer job, their primary food is blood and they do require it, but in the case they don't find any they have to swallow bugs which isn't sustainable to them. They must eventually find prey to bite and lap up its blood, which they do in its (it usually being a cow or a horse) sleep.
No. By that logic, you'd have to say regular slowking is Johto slowpoke. Their evolution is joined; it is a slowking no matter who is in control. To word it differently, just because "slow" is in the name doesn't mean the slowpoke is getting all the credit. It simply is describing who is the biological host in this hybrid parasitic/mutualistic relationship.
I like to think that the Crown Tundra is being used as a testing ground for fossil Pokemon by scientist, so rather than just releasing a wild Tyrantrum in the middle of Kalos, the scientist are using the Crown Tundra's large lands with few humans as a place to slowly rehabilitate Fossil Pokemon that they have brought so they can see if these Pokemon are ready to be introduced elsewhere as well.
@@Mendoza-yi6qk Well their not really trying to contain them... it's just for research to see how the fossil Pokemon react. Plus why would the Pokemon want to swim away? They have no actual reason to do that. Anyways it was just kinda how my brain imagined it to be, there are probably much better explanations out there.
Metagross being powered up by the cold is really cool (pun intended) because it relates to something interesting in physics: by supercooling certain nonmagnetised magnetic metals (like copper) you can produce a superconductor, a substance which not only has negligible resistance to electric current, but is also capable of warping magnetic fields so that the superconductor is simultaneously attracted and repelled by a magnet. Also, I think Beldum blood is some kind of ferrofluid.
Now I’m just imagining tirtuga going onto the land and saying, “WHAT THE F*** HAPPEND TO THE OCEAN” and that’s why Squirtle says it. It’s a primal instinct like how humans run away from TIGER because Monke ran away from TIGER
I feel like the Galarian birds' entries are meant to imply that the bird trio is like Zigzagoon- the Galarian Forms came first, and then the forms we're more familiar with, so that for whatever reason, Articuno, Zapdos, and Moltres evolved over time to become more literal embodiments of ice, electricity, and fire.
@@Pika250 I dunno about Meowth- both of its regional forms don't seem to have been the first variety of Meowth. Alolan Meowth was the result of trying to breed an ideal Meowth for Alolan royalty, and Galarian Meowth developed as it did due to living with a savage seafaring people.

Plot twist: the pokeball design is actually based off the markings on Foongus, and not the other way around. Humans are just entitled and like to think that.
Dragon Master Pokémon Ultra sword entry for Foongus: It’s said that an ancient roams the world painting markings on them similar to pokeballs, no one knows what it’s actual markings are.
2 things, 1) It would be interesting if you caught a Regieleki and Shadow Rider Calyrex in Pokémon Shield and Regidraco and Shadow Rider Calyrex in Pokémon Sword And 2) WHY IS NIDOKING’S DEX ENTRY SO WHOLESOME!!!!
@@elijahpadilla5083 he never said with herdier. You can assume that but its oddly specific since yes in oras cave paintings existed so why would they have cave painting just dedicated for herdier a very mundane pokemon
The people fear Jynx because it is based on a Yokai that kills people ( like Froslass is but different yokai). Smoochum is based on that yokai's assistant.
2:03 I like how it says Mikey has battled 2 lickitung but then reading its next dex entry it says he’s battled 3. I like to think that he went out and ko’d another one out of hatred and disgust for lickitung
I love these lore videos. The legendary birds bit was especially interesting. It's not impossible for the bird trio to have reached Gallar at some point and bred there or something. And since they're clearly inspired by Phoenix, it's possible that their offspring kept reviving and adapting to the region over time.
Okay I don’t know if everyone else thought this or it was just me but if it’s said Galaraian zigzagoon is the original then what about the birds I mean it says the names were made because of characteristics of these Pokémon not the Kali’s birds
The beldum magnetic forces just means that the magnetic forces replace the function of blood. Blood transports materials around the body and to individual cells, so Beldum has no blood and just does that through magnetic forces, I think it's just phrased weird.
"So a lot of Psuedo Legendaries hate the cold, like Garchomp and Salamence and Dragonite. But Metagross, he digs it." Me who remembered an old vid: "Yall are babies. It's not that cold."
Froslass: Takes kids Drifloon: Takes kids Dragapult: Yeet the child Btw my theory was that fossile Pokémon would be preserved in ice. I thought I was right but I was not.

I think the dex entries are less contradicting, and more native to the region. Like Kabuto is nearly extinct in Galar, however, other regions are still reporting sightings. Same with Kabutops, in the Galar region scientists probably still don't know how they went extinct, but the Alola scientists figured it out.
I like the idea that you can yell into the holes in Exploud's head, and the sound will travel through its body and out of its mouth with amplified sound, like a living megaphone. XD
