Don Adler (who is one of Evelyn Hugo's 7 Husbands) is also mentioned in Malibu Rising and there is also a subtle reference to Evelyn Hugo in Malibu Rising when it talks about Mick Riva marrying one of the most famous Hollywood stars
@@mishyy he's mentioned real quick as mick riva is on the path to stardom in the 1956 portion. June is talking about his early gigs and says she saw Don Adler in the audience. :)
the best part of mick riva's reference in daisy jones and the six is that one of the characters says that "he probably had like five kids at that point" which I think was a really subtle way to tease at the plot of malibu rising
I'm so bad at catching these references because I suck at remembering names. But one character I wish gets its own novel, or at least a short story is the younger Riva sister, the one they found out about in the end, her backstory is so intriguing.
@@pannaalmaberente9966 She's talking about the long lost sister. Kit was always a part of the Riva family but there was a girl called Casey who turned up at the party claiming that Mick was her father so they accepted her into their family.
I went to her book tour for Carrie Soto and she said that she’s done writing books in this universe!!! 😭😭😭 I obviously would love if she kept going with it because it’s SO fun to make all these connections but at the same time I’m sure whatever she does next will be just as fantastic!
When I read Carrie Soto, she mentioned some drama about a popstar and I was immediately convinced that she would become the new protagonist of the next book, maybe even inspired by Britney Spears. BUT THEN i read that TJR is actually done writing this universe. I‘m actually so sad about it, i love the references and I am in general always intrigued by books about people in the public eye.
at the beginning of Malibu rising, in the early hours of the insane party, she mentioned seeing members of daisy jones and the six. I remember being so excited because that was the first time I realized the complex and crazy universe Taylor Jenkins Reid masterfully created.
In Malibu Rising when they are talking about the fabulous Riva parties from years past they mention that Wyatt Stone was there one year (the man that stole the song “Stumbled on Sublime” from Daisy) in Daisy Jones and the Six
I was a huge Jacqueline Wilson fan years ago, and my favourite parts were finding the old characters that made appearances in her more modern books. When Ruby and Garnet appeared in The Butterfly Club I SCREAMED!
Taylor Jenkins Reid's books mean so much to me. I own and have read everything she has ever written. My dad passed away due to substance abuse and my mom was in and out of my life so I raised my siblings. I have never related to a book character as much as I relate to Nina Riva. Malibu rising made me feel so seen I actually cried. I grew up hanging around local venues and bands, so I really related to daisy jones and the six as well and thought it was great . I love all of tjr's books even her early work like after I do, one true lovers, maybe in another life etc. You can really see how much she has grown in her writing. I think what makes Taylor's books so amazing is how well she can write a relastic flawed character. Her work was always amazing but as a fan I really like that her book universe has a avengers or taylor swift vibe now where she teases things and leaves so many connections or Easter eggs.
I have another one! Violet North is the daughter of Rex North (one of Evelyn's husbands), and she's mentioned early on in Malubi rising. Apparently Kit and Violet talked at one of the Riva parties and Kit was fangirling about her afterwards
Hear me out... what if the next book is about Wendy who worked at Riva's Seafood (was that the name of June's restaurant?)? If the other books shine a light on a spectualar/popular woman in a specific industry, Wendy could be food. We know from her little section in Malibu Rising that she was leaving California and going back to her home town. What if she ends up working as a waitress again in that small town and ultimately becoming a prolific chef? Her story could be about her journey in the culinary world. Just a thought. That being said, it would be great if she wrote a I'm-writing-this-to-fund-my-Summer-home novella on Hunter Cameron and her time in Spain after her mother's retirement. Again, just a thought.
That book would be so good. I also feel like if she happen to decide later on that she wanted to do another that Carrie sotos manager (Gwen I think) would also be good
pretty sure that sunset studios and runner records are also mentioned in multiple books - I think mick riva talks about a record deal with runner records in malibu rising, and obviously they are the six's record label :)
I read seven husbands of Evelyn Hugo and loved it! Now I want to read all Taylor Jenkins Reid books and see the references you pointed out! Very cool and unique video 😍
Oh by the way, I really loved Taylor’s shower story “evidence of the affair” it’s on kindle unlimited and prime reading it’s really good and they do mention Daisy jones and the six
WOW. The only book I have read is Evelyn Hugo. Now I HAVE to read the rest of the books in order to meet all these people in this New Literary Universe!! Thanks Jack!!!!
It's such crazy timing that you do this video when I just started Malibu Rising. And in the first couple of chapters they did mention Don Adler. During the flashback telling how their parents got married, June says Don Adler was at the club where Mick was performing. I'm kind of glad I watched your video because I had no idea going in they were connected and I had only read Evelyn Hugo before this. I knew Mick Riva sounded familiar. 🤣
I could see Lisa Crown (more than Ruby Kelly I think) because her story would be placed in another part of "the public eye" of you get what I mean (we had Music, Sport, Acting and Modeling/generally being a socialite in the other books and presenter would be new/different)
There's also another link for Evelyn hugo and Malibu Rising! In Malibu Rising, Veronica Lowe is the woman Mick Riva leaveJune Riva for. In Evelyn Hugo, there's an excerpt of Mick Riva talking about divorcing "the siren Veronica Lowe".
I’m always more curious as to who all these people are based off of. Evelyn Hugo is based on Elizabeth Taylor but also Ava Gardner and Rita Hayworth. Daisy Jones is based on Stevie Nix and the band is based on Fleetwood Mac. Haven’t read Carrie Soto yet but I’m almost certain she’s based on Maria Navratilova (at least in part). I want to know more about everyone else to figure out who their inspirations are. Also I’m pretty sure Vivant Magazine is supposed to be Vogue Magazine.
Honestly I think Evelyn Hugo as a character was an amalgamation of most, if not all, leading Hollywood actresses during the 50s & 60s. There were aspects of her that made me think of Rita Hayworth (the de-emphasis of her Hispanic heritage, the "go to bed with Gilda" comment), Elizabeth Taylor (the multiple infamous marriages), Marlene Dietrich (her bisexuality & dgaf vibes), and Marilyn Monroe (self ownership of her body & sexuality). I felt Evelyn was very representative of all these women.
What would be wild would be if the editor-in-chief of either Vivant or Sub Rosa got their own book in which they detail what is was like trying to follow icons such as Daisy Jones and Nina Riva etc (since all the timelines have a bit of overlap, I can imagine there would be a period of 5-10 years where the publications were scrambling to get coverage on all four of the women)
evidence of the affair is actually one of my favorite tjr's! it's a super short story, and i really recommend it, especially of you like stories told in mixed media formats :)
If you're reading this... You missed out on the place: Chateau Marmont It links Daisy Jones & the six with Carrie soto is back... As far as I remember, the six used to live in that place intially. I don't exactly remember where it was mentioned in Carrie sotto, but I'm pretty sure it was.
Year of the side chick 😂😂 I’ve read 7H and been wanting to read the rest of TJR books but haven’t had the motivation to do so lately, but knowing all these connect is making me want to pick them up right now!!
I picked up Malibu Rising because of you reccomended it. About a month ago I saw a different authortuber read Daisy Jones and the Six and they name dropped Mick Riva. Fast foward to current time, I ordered both Seven Husbands of Evelyn Hugo and Daisy Jones and the Six for my bday, and I also will write or try to write a Celebrity book for NaNoWriMo. Thank You so so much for introducing me to TJR!
I felt like Malibu Rising was as much about name dropping and building a universe as it was about telling a story. I felt it lost steam at the end because of this.
I’ve read all these books and I never realized there were so many connections like this. I guess I need to reread them all and pay more attention to names 🤷🏻♀️
The Sarah Dessen universe is like that. Some of the minor characters in one book will become a major character in another book and so on. There are also minor characters that make a debut in other book(s).
considering I have read all of these as of today, this was the perfect time for this video to come up (and I also feel as though I need to read them all again)
i take notes during every book i read & i starting marking down every single character mentioned in all these books just to see if there were any crossovers😭
I loved the crossovers in Malibu Rising but I feel like she pulled back on it a little in Carrie Soto. My guess is that the next book will feature a tv show sort of like FRIENDS and follows the different actors in it.
one of my favs idk if a lot of ppl picked up on, in malibu rising jennifer beals is mentioned to be at the party. in the audiobook of daisy jones and the six, jennifer beals reads for daisy.
This is really random, BUT YOU HAVE TO GO TO THE STRAND if you haven't yet. It's like the most famous bookstore in NYC, 6 floors, absolutely JAM PACKED with books (18 miles of them!!) and everyone is super nice. I think they might have at least half of every book ever written. To anyone reading this, you would love it! It can be overwhelming due to the amount of books and people but it's totally worth it. On the corner of 12th street and 4th av in Manhattan
"Carrie Soto was a sidechick, she got her own novel. Camilla was a sidechick, she's now Queen Consort. It's the year of the sidechicks, sidechicks are thriving." BYEEEEE
“Taylor Jenkins Reid laces the edges of her books witch crack i swear” if this line isn’t used by jack to reference any of her books it isnt jack anymore its an imposter😂
I actually hope someday we get a TJR book about que guy who helped Evelyn Hugo move (spoiler) Harrys body in the car crash, she mentions that with her help he became a big star and had potential even if she did not crossed his path. I know it's so specific but i kinda thing about who he may be very often, like what if we already met this character in other books?? Doubt it will ever happen tho
