i get animal-like digimon like agumon taking dumps anywhere but a man-sized digimon like angemon just droppin trou and just droppin a loaf in the wild just fucks with me.
The best part about that sentence is that eventhough Rio appears in Tamers he's part of Ken's backstory in Adventure 02 meaning he's part of at least two separate universes of Digimon at the same time
@@cyberninjazero5659 Yeah in the last game he feels betrayed by the Adventure cast since their actions got one of his digimon friends killed with no chance of re-incarnation, so he chooses to go to a new reality at the end of the game, the Tamers one The reason why Cyberdramon is so violent is cause it turned out that the main villain WAS Ryo's destined partner, and his Monodramon friend forced a permanent DNA DIgivolution to form his partner in Tamers The violence is the villain half showing through
"I don't know much about the show but I don't doubt for a second this punches a few holes in the plot." It actually fills more plotholes than it causes.
@@Caspicum there's a few important plot points that just aren't explained in Digimon Adventure 02 because they were already in the Ryo Wonderswan games, including much of what happens to Ken who becomes a main character. It left anime only viewers confused. Ryo also becomes a main character half way through Digimon Tamers and nothing about him or his past is explained. Tamers is otherwise entirely disconnected from the Adventure universe too.
@@Caspicum It’s actually very true and really cool you see the main antagonist of the wonder swan games Millenniummon at some point desires to be Ryo’s partner which leads him to be reborn as Monodramon, it also explains why Cyberdramon in Season 3 tamers is so Aggressive it’s the residual data of Millenniummon, after the events of the final game Ryo is essentially transported into the Season 3 version of the digital world and then returns to his version of the human world which exists in the season 3 universe, Ken as you know befriended Ryo and helps stop Millenniummon in his first form and subconsciously rebuilds Kimeramon ( as a new digimon he thinks he created) But Kimeramon was one half of the dna digivolution of Millenniummon’s first form And this fits with season 2 Alluding to other universes and parallel worlds existing at the same time These games prove in some way seasons 1-3 are linked together
The games tried to explain how the multiple universes ("real" worlds) are linked to the digital world, which serves as a hub interconnecting them. This idea is brought back in Xross Wars when all of the former protagonists make an appearance. There actually are no plotholes, it's just Ryo and Ken's/Kaiser's backstory are left vague enough in the show to not interfere with the games or vice versa. That really doesn't have an impact on the plot, the WS games are just answering a few questions. Ryo might as well be some guy stranded in the digital world, which he was for everyone who just watched Tamers.
LOL Ken being in the game is actually a huge part of the second half of Digimon 02 and the reason he is the Digimon Emperor. There is a random scene that makes no sense unless you have played these games and the dark spore that is the main plot of the second half of Digimon 02 comes directly from the end of that game.
I think the two last games are intended to work as a tie-in with Digimon Tamers, explaining where Ryo came from. The rest of the West only sees him as this guy that came out of fucking nowhere to steal the spotlight lmao.
Technically speaking the WS did leave Japan, that's why the few English tramslations exist. However, they were made for the English speaking Asian market so that's why they are not quite right. EDIT: You forgot to mention that Battle Spirit 1.5 has an extra boss, Zeed Millenniummon. Also, 1.5 not only allows Impmon to evolve into Belzebumon BM but also has a special Guilmon that can evolve into Dukemon CM.
I Friggin' LOVE Battle Spirit 1.5!!!!Mother Flippin' Beezlemon,Flyin' While Chargin' His Gun!HE IS THE EVIL ONE!USIN' HIM IS DEVILISH FUN!My Extreme Mode World Records:1600 Impmon,1500 ExGuilmon,1400 Guilmon,1200 Gabumon,1000 Patamon,1000 Gatomon!!!!!BEAT ALL THOSE,AIKOU MY FELLOW DIGI FAN!
So the 02 Tag Tamer game doesn't punch holes in the animes plot. It explains why Ken ends up evil for the most part. The games also connect 02 and Tamers because Ryo is from the Adventure universe but for whatever reason, really the anime because he was properly, he chose to live his life in a different world. Essentially it helps established the metaverse of Digimon. Different Earth's exist while the Digital World tends to be the same except different servers.
So a funny thing is that the tamer wonderswan games are actually somewhat canon to the digimon adventure and tamers anime series. The main character appearing for like five seconds in Kens backstory in Adventure 02, and being a main character in Tamers.
That's the kind of market I want to capitalize on! Not for my own profit, but because there's a bunch of under-loved games that people are neglecting for all sorts of clickbait garbage, and it's not right!
It's an interesting experience, getting too look back on these old Digimon games. It surprises me how long it's taken the series to find its footing, and I'm still not fully convinced it's found its identity yet even though it seems to be getting closer to doing so. And honestly I'm kinda surprised the franchise has not only lasted this long, but wasn't just flat out killed earlier through its own insane decisions and general mediocrity. A lot of game mechanics mentioned throughout all these retrospectives are things I can see that have made it into the modern games, and it's fascinating to see the teams gradually start learning from their experiments and implementing the mechanics that worked into more and more games until they finally reach where they are today. And while I get a level of satisfaction from seeing that progress in retrospect, I just wish the series reputation didn't have to get dropped in the toilet to get where it is now.
Went to a Toys r' Us one day and see they sell a wonderswan bundled with digimon game. It was really cheap at that time, cheap enough for me and my brother to buy one using our pocket money. We don't even know what is a wonderswan, just bought it for digimon.
I played the first WS Tamer game like a month ago. Thought I was in for the long haul going through them all to see if they were decent. Now that you suffered, I don't have to! Great stuff as always.
I love DM ver Wonderswan. I only ever raise like one mon at a time but I like having 7 in reserve. My heart breaks tho when I remember that the eggs only go up to v4 (so no v5 w the godzilla digis and no v6 with Tentomon ;-;)
I was looking through the WonderSwan music, and it's honestly horrible trash, but the PS1 games saved my arse. MIght be some of the best soundtracks on the system which is no easy feat.
thats funny, I was listening these days to night time in file city from digimon world 1 and my grandma remembered when I played this game nonstop for years and asked me if those bizarre creatures would start shit in the floor again. She still remembered the song almost 20 years after.
Finally a new video! Been waiting for so long but it was worth it. Now what you are missing are the mmos, digimon battle online (there's only private servers besides the original korean one) and digimon masters online. There's another one that they just announce for next year because apparently they have to release a new digimon mmo every 10 years. Besides the mmos there's the decode for 3ds. Great video!
Thanks! I have commented elsewhere that I won't be doing a Decode video, because the differences really are minor, but I played it for funsies and enjoyed it a good deal. I'd love to get on to those Japanese NDS ones that came after Dawn/Dusk tbh. I got some other short term projects though... Some real weird shit is coming.
Love the Wonderswan and WSC. I unironically think Boktai would’ve made a great addition to the library because of how far out the idea of a tiny solar panel inside the cartridge is.
The legends were true! Casp O'Saurus reborns!! Thank you Casp! I played Digimon Battle Spirit for GBA, such a weird game. I guess it's not bad? But definitely not good either. "Aggressively mediocre" maybe defines it. But, I actually recommend trying it for Digimon fans and kids because it's so short. I think in less than 30 min you can beat it with one character. Boot it up one day, check if it's your thing, if not, let it go.
I do dig that about the more arcadey experiences. Compared to RPGs, there's not a huge time-sink, so even if you didn't enjoy it, it didn't waste much time.
BABE WAKE UP NEW CASP VID Its kinda surreal how, uh, underwhelming most wonderswan games are, I always expect it to be like the neogeo pocket where it has some absolute banger games despite being a shortlived console but its just not there
Excellent video. I always felt like the Wonderswan didn’t quite have the games to keep up with the Gameboy series even though as a console it seems pretty cool.
Yeah, the WonderSwan's got some weird stuff on there, but it is really stripped down experiences, especially compared to the GBA, which had some killer titles.
*sees Anode/Cathode gameplay* Oh shit, maybe a progenitor of Digimon Survive's gameplay? >Set it to Auto, every battle plays out the same, and no *Digivolution* of all things ...Dear Lord, I hope not.
Still waiting for that Digimon World: Next Order review. Do need one since I played the shit out of that game and 100%ed it but still wanna hear the opinion of the one person whose opinion I care for. Hope it will come soon ❤️
Bro you're like 3 years late! Check the playlist! I don't remember if it's any good, I remember I got a bit wrong about how good desyncing lifespans is for power leveling, but other than that *I think* it's an okay review.
6:20 My japanese isn't perfect And I barely pay attention to the screen when I'm grinding But I'm glad I looked over to catch this He looks so happy to say it too.
Well it seems to be a common practice that when you have a popular japanese license that appeals to kids your going to have a lot of sub par games go along with it. I'm not really familiar with the wonderswan gaming library but I'm just amazed over how many digimon games they made for the system within a short period of time.
I love older consoles and their adapters and attackments so much, guess I've got to buy a WonderSwan now haha noisulcnoc eht yllaicepse psac oediv taerg yllaer
Wonderswan Ryo games are meh if you play it as an adult but if i got them as a kid, it would've made my day!! I had the misfortune of growing up with Digimon World 4, all i ever wanted was to see Agumon to evolve into Greymon and throw a fireball but Digimon World 4 was like *"NO, fuKk YOOOU!"*
Many of this games have good basis, but it seems that they tried to reinvent the wheel instead of improving the wheel they already have, the only exception being the Ryo series, given that they did try to improve but it was only baby steps starting from a boring game.
Even with that fourth Ryo game, they tried to reinvent it again and it *almost* worked, but had a few major issues. A combination of all these would make an amazing game, it's just a shame it seemed to fail at every opportunity. Out of 10+ games, having 5 or so that're good enough to play for funsies but aren't brilliant is still a pretty decent hit-rate, far better than Digimon games on most other consoles tbh.
Well with the way the games are and how bad you don't care about the story within (despite the game not too great), I guess there's a reason why Bandai never wanted Wonderswan in the US in the first place
Hey since you're such an Anime Fan, ever thought about reviewing Naruto Games? The ones I had in mind would ne the Chronicle series... I loved those, especially the sequel 😂
Man, that takes me back. I played the fuck out of Chronicles and Ultimate NInja back in the day. I probably wouldn't do videos on those games, but I do have plans for some Naruto RPGs soon!
@@Caspicum I am not good at regular fighting games. I mostly prefer Smash Bros. Digimon Battle Spirit games felt similar. When I played them no portable Smash Bros was available. Good video. 🤔
I don't! I'm actually pretty minimalistic, so if there's no sorta... 'utility' to buying something and owning it, I don't do it. I used to collect things, but got sick of having to deal with how much space they took up and got rid of it all, so when it comes to stuff like vpet digmans, as cool as they are, i always have to talk myself out of buying them.
en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_Digimon_video_games#Digimon_Story im just now finding out apparently cyber sleuth is actually part of a different digimon spinoff series despite having nothing to do with the previous games
funny enought digimon franchihse tryes TOO hard to be completely connected between products, so the wonderswan game ACTUALLY gives backstory for the anime and explains some small plotholes of the anime. It still sucks, don´t get me wrong, but why digimon has an interconected multiple dimensions is beyond my imagination
yeah that was a bit strange to discover, feels like when people retroactively fit games to be a canonical 'series' instead of just letting things be separate... Though I guess they went in with the intent to connect them, it still sucks, I say we boycott wonderswan
@@Klonoahedgehog i like it when every part stand on theyr own. I can't say i like every thing of digimon individually. This wonderswan is a great example in my opnion, of a good concept and bad execution
Nigga just gimme a holla I have three Wonderswans Also, Ryo is not pronounced as Ryu. >flip the screen's rotation Also know as holding the system vertically.
The virtual tamagotchi is *okay* and the one where you have the three fellers who digivolve based on their environment is neat but yeah, it seems if you're not down for the narrative of those 4 games that connect to the anime plot, there's not a lot here.
@@Caspicum My dude, it's 100% real. Discord link in their description. You can also just Google Digimon W0rld. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-UYvW3_TuRz0.html The Digimon Ver. Wonderswan even works on it.
