Picked up my copy from Miniature Market yesterday. The new box organization is awesome, and the new realms look great! And I appreciate the travel tuck box. Thank you for releasing Redux.
What a great collection of new realms. I have been really enjoying the core box with a bunch of promos I’ve purchased. Just want to say you are a great ambassador for gaming and I really enjoy the enthusiasm you bring to the hobby. Great stuff, keep it up and I’ll happily keep consuming!
Out of curiosity (and not sure if you can share), but how does licensing work for something like this? Do you purchase the rights for a flat fee, or is it a royalty for each publisher/developer based on sales? The latter seems quite complicated to track based on how many different promos there are now! Unrelatedly, are these cards from the new big box also available separately?
I reach out to each publisher to offer them a flat payment for the permission to use their game as inspiration for a realm (along with the name of their game on the realm). Components of Rolling Realms Redux are not available ala carte (they're only found in this game).
Very interesting. Dog Park gave me an excellent idea to improve the dream themed engine builder I work on when I need a break. What is the process like for the design of the interior box? Do you work entirely theoretically or craft mock ups in house? I know it's not as important as other elements of the game, but I really want to nail our first box. Bad box inserts (or ones without instructions) are on everyones list of pet peeves.
That's great! I love Dog Park. Karel crafted a 3D model of the box, and we tested it with the pre-production copy made by Panda. For more complex insert, in my opinion you really can't design much of them until you have the pre-production copy with all final components.
@jameystegmaier What is your stance on space for sleeves. Personally, I like the idea of building that space into the box and including sleeves with the game. It might be a tough sell for me to my codesigner because we are focused on keeping the price point accessible. Do you think leaving that extra couple mm in the box is worth it? Devils advocate, the unsleeved versions will bounce around in the box more when moved if there is room for sleeves. **Also, do you know if Gabe Barrett is doing well? He hasn't posted for BGDL in a while and I wanted to make sure he's OK.**
@@Oviedo_Games Here's some thoughts and data on sleeves: stonemaiergames.com/do-only-3-of-gamers-sleeve-all-cards/ My personal take is that unless cards are frequently shuffled throughout the game, they don't need sleeves and the insert doesn't need to hold sleeved cards. However, sleevers are a passionate, vocal group, so if you have a custom insert, you will be inundated with questions about whether or not it holds sleeved cards (almost as if nothing else matters), so please be aware of that. I emailed Gabe recently, and he seems to be doing well! He's focused on his series of solo games, one of which is on Gamefound now (Cursed Castle).
@jameystegmaier Thank you for the link. The shift in answers is really interesting. The game in question doesn't involve more than a shuffle or two inherently but does require a deshuffle at the end of every game. The difference in sleeve quality seems to really affect the perception of their need as well. Our first prototype was sleeved in expensive rigid sleeves, and people really liked them. We used cheap sleeves for the second because we got 6 prototypes instead of 2. They were not mentioned one way or the other when cheap. Glad to hear Gabe is well. He was putting content out so consistently that I worried when the flow stopped.
