Oh, I think I've seen that in a video. Bunch of guys and a chick (maybe their singer). And there were no instruments. And the chick always did very high notes. Heck, she almost screamed them! And the lyrics the guys were saying (background vocals) were really naughty! Come to think of it, it might not have been a music video at all. :(

I did assume Charles is one of, if not the major, source of inspiration for Davin's content/music on this channel. I mean, Charles is a sick guitarist and just knows how to produce these strange hyper-guitar bangers, it would make sense to learn from his stuff.

The problem I have is that very few of the notes resolve to anything so they could just be random notes we're hearing that just happen to hold in the right places. Which isn't hard to do. Oh there's an A chord. I'll just play a million notes and stop on A..... I'm not saying that's what they are doing, but that's what it sounds like. It lacks emotion and feel for my own tastes.

Some of us out here are still okay guitar players but focus more on the songs. XD

Not to be condescending or anything, but complex music isn't "bad" songwriting, it's just hard to grasp for non-musicians, and that's why it "just sounds like noise" or whatever. Things like jazz and prog rock are anything but random, they just follow more intricate patterns, so if that's not something you're interested in, you're just gonna be bored waiting for a hook that never comes. That doesn't mean it's bad, it just means it wasn't made for you.

@@bushdid91195 I'd disagree with you on jazz, improvisation over chords is fairly random. Whilst the chords in general are not. Also there are a lot of metal bands who do chromatics over chord changes and only stop on chord tones making it sound a lot more musical than it is. But on the whole I agree with you.

@@bushdid91195 It's not just a matter of complexity, it's how each section of the song transitions into the next and what relation they have to each other to create a satisfying story. Even for people who like complexity, Protest the Hero is probably my favourite band, it all depends on whether they can get their point across and do it in an engaging way. If the music doesn't move then the complexity doesn't matter. For example, I'm not really into Polyphia. I think their song GOAT sounds like a 3 and a half minute intro because the song never advances. I think they're great musicans, and the parts they write are cool, but there's no momentum in the songs as a whole. It's all build up and no release. That's why I love Protest the Hero, because they always build up to huge beautiful choruses, which gives everything before and after it purpose. Although, I know Lo-Fi is popular, but it's used as "background music". If your goal is to make music that just fills in the silence and is not meant to actually be listened to, then I guess that's a different story.

The guitar instrument is gaining a LOT of popularity and new players, and I bet a LOT of that has to do with modern guitarists (of which Polyphia are the most popular) pushing the boundaries and playing the guitar non-traditionally. The fact that the meta is to be hyper technical AND melodic, makes the modern guitar music interesting to most everybody, instead of only metal-heads or singer-songwriters. Guitarists today are doing some cool stuff and I'm happy to see and feel the guitar become interesting and cool again.

Wow, I guess Davin has hit that point just like Charles did. It's very similar to when random people started claiming that Charles' videos were fake because they were so good, the accusers couldn't believe that someone could actually play what they saw on the videos. And then suddenly, Charles starts releasing live recordings, and those people stopped coming around and commenting.
