I'm always baffled by how smoothly and efficiently you seem to brake, and would love to see the technique you use for it as well as stuff like shifting and filtering, like a beginners series of sorts :) Love the channel regardless, just suggestions!

I had a Sinnis Apache and it was so easy to rev match gear change, no clutch and smooth as, even for downshifts.

And this years nobel prize goes to RoyalJordanian for finding new uses for the revlimiter!

I think I get what RJ is saying. A Quickshifter cuts the ignition for a split second to allow the gear to slip in rather than having to roll off the throttle. When you bounce off the limiter you can use the grom's quick shifter because it cuts the ignition to protect the engine from over revving.

I taught my daughters to shift up and down in a car without using the clutch. As long as the revs are near enough it will slide through when it's ready and no crunching. I do it on my bike just for practice, if the brakes fail i can still stop if the clutch cable goes i can still get home. As always Ride Safe.

on upshifts i ve always just put i tiny bit of up-pressure on the gear pedal when i know its close, then when the revs match it kinda just slides into gear, well smooth, no graunching. i always clutch on downshifts... havent sussed that one yet. but rarely on the up, you just get the feel for when your revs will match

You can keep upshift pressure on the gear lever and wait for first instance of engine cut.

RJ I drive that road almost everyday, if you do the speed limit and hit the first set of lights whilst GREEN, you will get GREEN through all the other lights unless a ped presses the button.

I used to do this on all my small cc geared bikes. even carb, dont need a EFI rev limiter to do it, just good timing on the throttle.

How I *think* it works is, just as the clutchless upshifting, the transmission hast to rotate without force. so if you hit the revlimiter, the bike stops accelerating > transmission in push state >clutchless upshift possible

OK, first off… This is not a quick shifter. It’s using the lag between shift forks and the lack of torque against your shift drum during the time that the rev limiter pulls ignition. It works, but it’s really bad on your engagement dogs. There’s more to it but that’s about as simple as I can explain it. If you do this too much, you’ll have to take apart your transmission. On a big bike she’ll probably blow through second and sixth gear engagement dogs. I just did this on my track bike. I’m not sure which gears are linked on a Grom, but on mine, 3rd gear dogs are starting to go out.

So just to be clear, all you did that entire time was keep full throttle and shift up when it felt right? No clutch? No lighting up on the throttle? Because I thought you were suppose to let off the throttle completely when you up-shift according to another video of yours.

Wait... if got it right... it basically means when the rev limit is reached the bike cuts out the fuel to prevent damage to the engine... so you can just shift like it has a quickshifter...

Its like the Fia GT3 Racing car, you only need the clutch for starting mouving, and automatic cutoff. Do they have automatic blip ? like when you downshift, the bike will automaticaly rev it for Rev Match or just quick upshift ?

A quick shifter does what the factory rev limiter does except whenever you want to shift instead of running into the limiter and cutting the ignition that way. Supposedly a quick shift is faster, BUT it’s a Grom. It’s hardly a sport bike. FUN bike, but it’s not a supersport. Would be interesting to see a side by side drag race.

Well in the first half of your video, you seem to be up shifting without using the clutch automatically. in the second part of your video you seemed like you were using the clutch to shift. Each time you came to a stop though it seems like you had to enter the friction zone in order to takeoff and then continue. I’m a little confused. When I took the MSS on the grom, there was a point in time where I maxed out first gear like it wouldn’t go any higher than a certain mile per hour until I shifted. it didn’t shift on its own, I had to shift so I’m not sure that all groms have this thing that you speak of on.

Want one of these as my next bike so bad!

it's about matching the speed of the cranckshaft with the speed of the gearbox, you can downshift as well PS: In my country, the old national car, Dacia 1310 has a shity gearing , and almost every old man who owns one, does your ``quick-shifting`` technique up and down.

Does the timing matter? or just when every you hit the rev limiter just shift? I was practicing Clutchless shifting on my 150 but honestly didn't find much use in it other then when i wanted to pop my sun visor down and had to shift.

Being so used to clutching in and out, I struggle shifting without using the clutch lever even on bikes like s1000xr which has as up and down quickshifter. Feels good though :) when upshifting during furious acceleration in particular.

I notice you push the bars the wrong way to turn.. you turn left you push right... that's fighting how the bike wants to be... on a nice long left turn push the left side of the bars and the bike starts to tip.. automatically it will turn left....

I'm confused as to why RJ is waiting till he is smashing the rev limiter before changing. I have a Proshift on my RS3 and there is no need to go anywhere near the limiter.

Rj is this damaging to the gears or any associated parts? It's expressly how I accelerate on my Honda Shadow and I've never had a problem in two years but my friends are scared to try it perhaps an authority such as your self could convince them with a few words?

Well, does it really make you go quicker? I doubt it. When you approach limiter you are already beyond peak power so the effect of quick shift will be eaten. Keep in mind that it takes time to realise you hit limiter and kick the shifter - you are also losing time there. If I took it too serious then alright, but if you are for real - make a test.

I crashed my grom into the back of a stopped car going about 50, tore ligaments and broke bones in my left foot.. so my shifting foot.. my car broke down 2 days later... anyways, was just seeing how bad this is for the engine if I were to ride it around town mostly quick shifting up.. yes I need to ride 😂

Except my GS1200. When I hit the rev limiter it kills the engine. It doesn't bump off the red line, it stops the engine.
