It’s not that people paid $650 for a minifigure. They paid for a $650 LEGO set that was said to have an exclusive version of Rex, which is a very nice incentive for buying a $650 LEGO set. Knowing the figures are exclusive (because they said they were) helps swallow the huge price tag of that set a little bit.

With what LEGO has done with Rex, who is to say they now won't do the same with yularen or any other "exclusive" figure? That is the problem I think.

@@jtiggy3768 exclusivity in figures aren't a lego selling point for UCS, and giving how much rex is popular and since it was at least 5 years overdue, seing it in a smaller set was kinda obvious anyways. In all fairness, it's been done plenty of times before, I don't get why people get mad now, as if the value was only in the figure. Give it 5 years and the venator will hit the 1k+range on secondary market, as most set do anyways. I got the figure in the venator, was absolutely found of it, and now that other people get to enjoy it at a very little pricepoint, I think that it's amazing. I might even pick the smaller one up just to have it twice, just in case. Also, I bet that Yularen will keep it's exclusivity in the long run. I can't think of a set in which it would be a fitting character, except maybe a venator playset. Finally, it is much cheaper to print the same figure than to design another one. I don't think that microfighter and mechs are the good place for such things to happen.

I don’t really care why people buy Lego I just want the whole community to get what they want and scalpers don’t really effect anyone despite popular belief there’s never a shortage of any lego set unless it’s super exclusive like the clone minifigure pack lol

There’s not really “scalpers” in Lego, practically every lego set is available for 1.5-2 years minimum for retail price. Wild to me that people can’t comprehend that even normal customers would want their advertised as exclusive thing to be exclusive.

Also, you’re wrong in stating “LEGOinvestors” are part of the community. They are not.

Every hobby is up for investors. BUT... The nature of investing is unpredictable risk. Also, they are indeed not a part of community. You can be part of community AND be investor, but being part of community requires more than JUST buying sets. You want to build them or use for MOCs, you should actually want affordable options... Not hope that Lego will never release more sets with one fig in that one set you have twenty of, so it can rocket up in price once it retires.

@@Chris_Elric They're not harmful at all they give us the opportunity to easily access retired sets. There's literally still 501st battle packs on bricklink for under retail and it retired well over a year ago

Exactly, improving the figure would make situation worse, damaging the figure by taking away the details would just end up with investors praising Lego for laziness. You can't win here. Lego screw up by calling minifigs exclusive in instructions, yes. But Rex shouldn't be locked behind 650$ purchase, ever.

Also, it’s hilarious that you’re calling a $650 18+ Collector’s Edition model set a “children’s toy”. LEGO literally says it’s not.

And they have a history of saying something is exclusive when it releases, but that's not a promise they won't release it later. Again, the original stormtrooper was the same exact way. The last thing anyone should care about with recycled plastic is resale value.

Yeah, that's the nature of investing. People expect easy profit because Lego is often predictable. But this time Lego went really pro consumer. I understand why people are upset, and I agree that they shouldn't call him exclusive in instructions.... But no one bought Venator because of what was written in Instructions. Nowhere else he was called exclusive.

Well first off I bought it for the set I’m not a reseller I just wanted the venator build but I simultaneously like collecting exclusive figures just not as much as the sets obviously. And second I think it’s stupid that according to the community lego has to clarify exclusive “forever” or “for the time” when they should’ve just not said it’s exclusive there’s no way to justify them lying 😂

Do you recall people being happy the 50$ Mace Windu being cooler than the UCS LAAT one, despite them being technically different? You wanted the cheap one to be worse. Be honest.

If anything, I would argue that one side will always loose. Investors win when sets they have contain something that's rare or sought after. And more often than not bricklinking parts is cheaper than buying builds themselves once they reach price points Investors want. So sets usually get pricey due to minifigs inside, and if Lego release a minifig in only one set, then Investors are happy, but potential buyers later down the line won't be. Old SW sets reach ridiculous prices in large part due to investors constantly driving prices up and up. I can assure you that if Lego made another Tactical droid today, but made it EXACTLY the same way as old one looked like, people would loose their minds. Investors inherently are hoping for Lego to use anti consumer tactics. And no, they're not needed to keep pool of sets on market alive. You can find pretty much any set that isn't some weird, promotional bundle of sets online easily.

"Investors" (which just sounds like a fancy word for scalpers) are betting on Lego making anti consumer decisions for profit, which in turn gives the scalpers more opportunities for personal profit. There are many sets from my childhood that I'm completely incapable of buying just because they contain the most random minifig that happens to be exclusive. That is not a healthy market. I find it incredibly "ridiculous" to even consider feeling sad for scalpers after this thing. Unless you are one yourself.
