Could you imagine if, back in the day, someone told you that you could run a full operating system in an emulator, fully within a web browser? Today, we're taking a look at the Infinite Mac, a collection of 35 installs of every significant Mac OS through the year 2000, fully bootable and emulated within the browser!

I like how the virtual screen bezel changes to match the OS being emulated. That's a nice touch.

So we run mac OS 9 in our browser, then we install Virtual PC on OS 9, and run Windows 98 in a virtual machine, so we can run WinUAE to run Workbench and then emulate an Apple ][ on the Amiga? How deep can we go ?

I was ready to be mildly amused by this and skeptical of the performance in a browser, but I am seriously impressed by all the added features and ease of use. Some of this really needs to get backported to the actual emulators because I don't know how on earth you'd do this so easily in them. Also very curious how the disk images work and how your data gets stored, unless it doesn't? Time to explore it.

This is amazing! I really hope that younger designers and programmers explore this and get a feel for the humanist ethos that was behind all aspects of the classic Mac OS and Apple stuff in general (which has been thoroughly replaced by a much more sterilized and shiny style.) E.g. note when the understated "Welcome to Macintosh" startup dialog box with the original line art logo (multicolor on color Macs) starts getting pushed aside by the big dumb blue face logo (And even that is gone now in OSX of course, along with the happy mac icon.)
