Contrary to popular misconception, jkd is not a fighting philosophy, even though he describes it in a philosophical way it’s not that. Bruce described jkd best when he told William cheung on his thoughts on Chinese arts and his style in 1969: "William, I’ve lost faith in the Chinese classical arts…my line of training is more toward efficient street fighting with everything goes, wearing head gear, gloves, chest guard, shin/knee guards, etc…I’ve named my style jeet kune do, reason for my not sticking to Wing Chun is because I sincerely feel that this style has more to offer regarding efficiency."
@@Deimos_the_Autist even though people credit Bruce for MMA, Bruce was not in favor of sport fighting since he found it not realistic because of the rule restrictions and focused on actual combat on the street.
It's also great to mention about the history of silat, Before modern times, Silat was often paired with "keris". A traditional knife. And they often read charms and curses on it to be protected during combat. Sometimes even on their own body. Their practice include meditating while calling out name of djinns which are going to be the one securing the safety of the person. A famous story i heard, one silat technique that requires the person's head to separate with the body. The head would have the keris in their mouth and fly around attacking people from the air. Whilst the body just fights on the ground. However now, silat doesn't use this kind of techniques anymore since most Asian countries, especially Indonesia, Malaysia and Brunei, bans the use of magic, or curses Silat is also a very deadly form and competitions would set certain rules in order to have a safe match.
nah, the curses and the djinns are also still used nowadays both in silat and general, it is illegal in Indonesia but many ppl still secretly use it especially if u have a business or smthn, and the witches called "dukun" and the curses called "santet" , while also they use some items like keris, ring, etc that equipped with magic as amulets
indonesian here, no, it is just a culture, silat are even older than the keris or Muslim culture themselves, and djinn are Muslim culture there is no djinn in silat, we don't use keris that often, I think you are indoctrinated.
@@whanua98 wow well said bro, surprised to see an educated historian here, ur right the origin of djinns is a muslim influence, countries like malaysia and indonesia used to be majority pagan, hindus and buddhist it wouldnt make sense to believe in sum like djinns, magic on the other hand by law there is ban, just stigmatized, not the same thing
Great video 👌 I just wanna correct one thing: The word "Gi" can't be used alone it should be used next to an other word like "KARATEGI" or "KARATE DO GI" (judogi as you said) and so on
@@pavelmatusu4457 gi wouldn't be used alone in Japan because it just means uniform. There is nothing to define what type of uniform you are talking about.
@@porhaltavaneppe Yes, that's the case most of the time, but when I'm in the dojo, everyone knows what I'm talking about. I would't call it just gi when talking to outsiders.
Kalaripayattu, from India/Bharat.🙏🙏 The mother of Shaolin Kung Fu, and basis of almost all present day martial arts. One of the oldest martial art still alive on earth
I think it's also good to mention that many of these have complimentary weapon styles that take influence from the corresponding martial art (or the other way around).

Can you make a video on the differences of the techniques between japanese jiujitsu, brazilian jiujitsu, hapkido, combat hapkido, combat sambo, sambo and judo?
Well I can tell you about sambo and judo. Jiujitsu is basically all about grappling and submissions, with some exceptions, namely some takedowns. Judo is basically all about takedowns, lots of throws and such. Some submissions in there as well. Granted, I may be wrong and those are both oversimplifications. Anyway sambo is a Russian martial art that was developed in the Soviet Union after what was essentially a ban on anything non-Russian being practiced. It’s its own mix of judo, jiujitsu, and various forms of wrestling, primarily Eastern European styles. It’s incredibly intense and physically demanding. Combat sambo is like sambo except with striking as well. Sambo is kind of like a self contained Russian mma in a way.
Japanese jiu jitsu is much more similar to judo with a longer allotted ground time, in judo you only have like 5-8 seconds to execute a submission before they stand you up. In Bjj takedowns are not awarded and are rarely practiced heavily as nobody cares about the stand up Japanese Jiu Jitsu removes both of these weaknesses by conjoining judo throws & takedowns with bjj subs Why Bjj is diff than Japanese jj is because it evolved with different guards and more elaborate submissions since it was only focused on the ground game. This led to people specializing in either Bjj or judo and Japanese jj basically became a lost art
you forgot to do better research on silat, it has grappling, striking, weapon, wrestling, groundfighting, and kickboxing, is like a mix of muay Thai with jiu jutsu, both of these style is so natural to migrate for silat practitioner.
When talking about actual recorded proof on paper, sumo is the oldest MARTIAL ART. This is also a martial arts video 😊. You could consider archery to be a way to battle and it being the oldest but it isnt a MARTIAL ART. Do you get what im saying?
To be honest, though I found it better than expected as the first part of each “martial art” was mostly (not always) OK (as a short info for someone who really has no idea of martial arts / fighting sports / etc.), but the second part was often inaccurate or simply bla-bla.; all together it was a lazy job done with/by an AI, sadly without having been checked and reedited afterwards by somebody who knows better. With other words: if it would have been done only in 5 minutes with an expert human redaction it could have been much-much better.😁 Not to mention: it’s very-very far of being every martial art. But most importantly: shouldn’t be forgotten: AI is just a(nother) tool which makes the work easier and not something what makes the whole work!
the Malay Archipelago Silat is a combative art of self-defence and survival rooted in the Malay Archipelago. Traced back to the early days of the Langkasuka Kingdom, Silat has evolved into a fine practice of physical and spiritual training also encompassing traditional Malay attire, Silat musical instruments and customs.
Although the word silat is widely known throughout much of Southeast Asia, the term pencak silat is used mainly in Indonesia. "Pencak silat" was chosen in 1948 as a unifying term for the Indonesian fighting styles. It was a compound of the two most commonly used words for martial arts in Indonesia.
There's another variation of Silat which is from Riau but this version of Silat is from my Minang Culture named Silat Kampung its the same but Silat Kampung is more Serious and in my language "Kareh" Which is hard and it has acrobatic stuff
for kung fu. that is righhttt annd "wrong". while that is what a lot of scripture says, kung fu is just a saying, it pretty much means hard work/effort or just meaning something was really good or cool. for the outfit, maybe some places like america call it a kung fu suit, but its actually a type of uniform of Kāṣāya, and the picture you showed of that outfit is not used in a lot of places, maybe select amount of kung fu schools. Also, a lot of Kung Fu styles practice grappling/slamming, which you forgot
i just noticed that there are extra parts for it, i'm a practioner of HEMA and Fencing, i practice some hungas kung fu, as well as north shaolin kung fu and karate, but honestly i came to realize fencing is the most eficient martial art i ever practice (in terms of self defence) of course, not everybody will be able to have a fencing sword with them all the time for self protection... but i do plan on having a blade instaled on an umbrela at some point in my life so i can carry it all the time... i do plan on mooving to a place where i can carry a firearm with me as well tou XD
why you didn't talk about indian self defense. There's a lot example for Silambam, adimurai and more. And do you know that the most powerful martial techniques such as Shaolin Kung Fu was developed from a great monk called Bodhidharma who was originated from Tamilnadu.
