partner.shopmoment.com/21MRRO 👈🏻T-Series is here! Moment just announced new, larger lenses for smartphones with bigger sensors like the 14 Pro & Pro Max! Hit Like if you want me to test them out! ✌🏻
Credible and sensible review, Jack. Moment appears to have been resting on their laurels. Perhaps they will adapt to bigger sensors if there is a broad enough market. Yes, would definitely appreciate your coverage of alternative lenses - good and not so good. Furry hood quite stylish on you.😊 Would really like to see 3rd party add-on lenses that “communicate focal length” to smartphone (perhaps by Bluetooth) so the EXIF data includes correct lens information. Do you think that would be practical? Cheers!
I hope they they make a new lens series! Thanks it’s a ridiculously large coat and hood 😄 The phone being able to communicate with the lens would be useful! When using the Moment app you can tell it what lens your using and it does add some relevant info to the EXIF data, but you do have to remember to choose the lens. Not sure how it would be possible here on a phone. Bluetooth would need power and there’s no contact pins like on DSLRs and Mirrorless Cameras. But would be cool if somehow possible! Maybe through RFID 🤔 Thanks for watching Paul! ✌🏻
Thank you for your honest review. Your objective analysis is very different from the doctored images that Moment has shared with the public. They probably do not care since their focus is no longer on mobile 'phone lenses.
They are unlikely to. Their focus now is on DSLR's, film & photography classes. Besides, as you point out, with the increasing capabilities of smart 'phone cameras, the demand for lenses has decreased.
Thank you so much for your honest and clear review. Now I realize that I wasn't attaching the lens incorrectly. Instead, the shadows ("vignetting") are a result of the lens.
iPhones' sensors have been getting bigger while Moment's lenses haven't been updated in years. This results in the corners not being sharp or looking good Otherwise great video, props for testing all of the lenses!
One thing that may help is getting a 1.55x anamorphic to produce a 1.33x output haha. By discarding the sides on the edit. The anamorphic is the one I liked the most.
Could you help me choose, according to your knowledge, between sandmarc, moment and shiftcam? I have an iPhone 14 pro and I want to buy the lenses, especially the wide angle and the fisheye, what a difference in quality there is between the two brands.
I’ve not done any direct comparisons between them but from using all of them you can’t go wrong with either SANDMARC or ShiftCam’s LensUltra, they all look amazing on the 14 Pro. Moment just announced their new T-Series lenses for the 14 Pro but they’re not out yet ✌🏻
Main reason for for that vignetting and corner sharpness is because of the sensor size in new iphones.... they are bigger and with that image circle of those lenses is smaller causing this vignetting in the corners. Think of putting APSC lens on Full Frame camera (Sony E mount for example) it will work but image circle will not cover whole sensor.... They will need to redesign them asap since 15 Pro might have even bigger sensor! On the other hand if you are looking for vintage looking photos with some edits and grain it could look nice with those old ones too :D
Yeah I think you’re right! Let’s hope they don’t abandon the mobile lenses and release some updates ones. Make them extra large in case the 15, 16, 17 cameras get absurdly bigger 😄 Thanks for watching Alen! ✌🏻
@@JCKRGB yeah they definitely should. Atm we would get more corner sharpness and later down the road we would be safe if sensors actually get bigger 😄 one more thing (maybe good for a new video) is 12-48MP Raw modes. Since they are going with pixel binning, could you say something about noise in those 2 modes. Looking at pixel pitch it should produce less noise in 12MP mode… ;)
I’m assuming this problem is also on the 13 pro max? What other lenses out there will work? I wanted to get the Blue Anamorphic lens and maybe the 58mm
I’m not sure about the 13 Pro’s as I never had one, but from what I remember seeing I think only the 58mm Tele had issues with it - the Anamorphic’s were fine! Thanks for watching! ✌🏻
I wish I had seen this video sooner before purchasing the 58mm tele for my iPhone 14Pro. I love the added shallow DOF and was hoping to use it for portraits and interviews … After watching your video I did my own tests and had the same disappointingresults. 😢 It was sharp in the center but quickly degraded toward the sides. I’ve been eyeing up the new Beastgrip 1.7x pro series lens as a quality replacement. Your thoughts? It would mean mixing different mounting systems which the Beastgrip cage handles, but it’s a bit too heavy for my use. Decisions!
Ahhh! Yeah it does get pretty soft around the edges on these new larger sensors. I've not tried any Beatgrip products yet but I'm hoping to test some more mobile lenses on the channel soon. Thanks for watching Tim! ✌🏻
Thanks! Moment does have a Lens Filter Adapter for attaching filters to their lenses but not for the Fisheye Eye as it has such a wide field of view, the filter would be in shot. Thanks for watching! ✌🏻
Thank you so much for this review. I have the 18mm wide that I had purchased for my iPhone 11, and now with my 14 Max, I wasn’t sure if it would translate. I’m glad I didn’t spend the $50+shipping for the new case and mount only to get the vignette; it would bother me too much. I am bummed though, because I really thought with the new 48MP camera + Moment, I could take my iPhone photography to a higher level, but I suppose I will just have to wait and see if they come out with newer and better lenses to accommodate. Well done. Much appreciate it. You’ve earned a sub.
You’re welcome! Yeah I’ve had some of mine since my iPhone X! Wasn’t expecting them to work perfectly forever though and I’ve got some good use out of them. Hope Moment come out with some updated lenses soon! Thanks for subscribing Scott!✌🏻
Thank you ! Good vidéo ! Can you tell me what is the weight of protection and lenses? If not, where can I find this information? It's important it's for a gimbal and I'm weight limited. Thanks
All the Lenses have a slightly different weight, the second link in this video description will take you to a page with all the lenses. Their weights are listed on each lenses product page under the Specs tab :) Thanks for watching Remi! ✌🏻
Great video! I can actually see what you’re talking about in the official Moment video for the iPhone 14 pro and their lenses. I didn’t notice it before because of the environment items placed on the edges of the shots.
Yeah it’s tricky to see the vignetting at first with other things in shot but it’s definitely there! Hope they respond with some new V3 lenses. Thanks for watching Jasneil! ✌🏻
I don’t have any from Sandmarc or ShiftCam yet, but Freewell has sent me some gear from their new Sherpa series. I’ll hopefully have a video out on that soon! ✌🏻
@@JCKRGB Thank you! I actually sent out an email and asked if their lenses also have this issue. They responded and confirm that the Telephoto, Macro, and Anamorphic 1.33x don't. And that the Wide, Fisheye, and Anamorphic 1.55x lenses are undergoing a re-design due to the iPhone 14 Pro's new camera system, which is estimated to ship end of December. Regardless of this.. I’m still hoping that someone will do a review once the lenses are out.
I recently bought Moment's 67mm "snap on" phone filter mount for the iPhone 14Pro/Max. It was a waist of money for me. It's made of flimsy plastic (they say to cut down on weight). Needs to be attached in two steps. Requires two hands (without filter attached) to carefully work around the edge of the plastic mount until it "snaps" into place. Can be finicky and doesn't always snap-in the first try. Doesn't instill confidence that it will stay. The filter is then screwed onto the flimsy plastic mount, fear of stripping the plastic filter threads. Again, doesn't feel secure. 👍I then discovered another (better) option that is a popular solution for those using the Moment mounting system. MoonDog Labs makes a metal phone filter mount "V3" that uses the Moment bayonet mounting system and a 52mm filter thread, and works with the iPhone 14Pro.
Agreed, new Moment cast and iPhone 14 ProMax mounting plate. I had been looking forward to using Moment lenses. I have both Anamorphic (which suck on the iPhone ProMax), 18mm, 56 and Macro as well as 67mm VND and Cinebool filters. I will be selling my complete Moment kit as it's just not worth keeping.
Always loved Moment’s mobile gear but they haven’t seemed interested in keeping up with newer phones! Hope they continue to work on their lens series. Thanks for watching Aaron! ✌🏻
@@JCKRGB cheers I also watched your vids on Shiftcam, which lens system do you believe as of yet would be the best route to take? I’m considering shiftcam now and found a nice deal online
@MangoTalksTech as of right now, either ShiftCam or SANDMARC (I have some vids on their lenses too!) I don’t think ShiftCam’s are shipping just yet though ✌🏻
Just posted a video testing SANDMARC's 58mm Tele & 10x Macro with some fantastic results! Check it out 👉🏻 ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-9ZklkDlwV2o.html
I have a Pixel 6 Pro. I've tried most of the lenses that you reviewed in this video, and I experienced the EXACT SAME ISSUES. The Moment Fisheye and the Macro are the only ones worth buying anymore. I contacted Moment about my experience with these lenses and felt like I was being gaslighted. I tested these on a Pixel 3 as well and found that while vignetting was not an issue due to the smaller sensor, the chromatic aberration and lack of corner sharpness were still present. Now that phones often have multiple lenses, the failures of Moment glass are becoming more apparent.
Jack great review. I’m pretty disappointed in Moments lack of interest or concern. I’ve had moment for quite some time. I also have the new beastgrip tele which is outstanding on the iphone 14 pro max. Unfortunately it only works on their cages and rigs. I have sandmarc as well. Not sure yet how they perform.
I found the lenses don't work with the iPhone 14 Pro Max. Even with the Moment cover and proper lens mount. I only see the edge of the lens. It worked great with my iPhone 11 Pro Max.
I don’t have a regular iPhone 14 to test with these lenses unfortunately! As the 14 has smaller camera modules and sensors compared to the 14 Pro, it might not have the same issues seen on the Pro. If you have one, comment below and let me know how they look and if they work! ✌🏻
Amazing review I was considering lately to get my first moment lens for my 14 pro. But at that price i would like to have it being obsolet in a couple of models more.
Yeah the Moment Lenses lasted a good few generations since they first came out. But they don’t seem so compatible with never phones. I’ve had much better results with some other brands that have recently updated their lenses ✌🏻
SO helpful. Super clean and to the point vid. I just transitioned to an iPhone was considering a lens. Definitely going to hold and spend on other goodies like a new mic until. Hoping you will review other lease for the iPhone 14 pro max. Ill be subscribing in the meantime. Cheers.
Hey great review Jack. I was planning to order tele lenses but now i have a second thought. Which one do you suggest ? and how about Sandmarc lenses any thoughts on it ?
Thanks Ratheesh! If you have an iPhone 13 or 14 Pro I’d hold off on getting the Moment Tele until they update their lenses for these newer phones with bigger sensors. I haven’t been able to test Sandmarc’s lenses just yet but I’m hoping to try them out soon. Stay tuned! Thanks for watching! ✌🏻
Very nice review. Finally found a real review of overvalued moment lens. Edge sharpness and vignetting is super bad but no one talked about that on RU-vid
Cheers! They perform much better with the older phones they were designed for. But no so much with these bigger sensors and cameras. Thanks for watching! ✌🏻
Are you using the 3D printed drop-in lens mount? I got my hands into an anamorphic lens but still haven’t tried it on my 14 Pro since I want the final production mount.
I have used all of the lenses shooting with the Moment camera app and haven’t noticed any vignetting at all. I’ll need to try them with filmic pro and see how my images look.
Thank you so much for this! Saved me an unnecessary 14 Pro Max purchase. ;-)) Unfortunately, my three Moment lenses (14, 18, 58) also don't work on my 12 Pro Max. It was manufactured in the one factory that makes the cameras incompatible with 3rd party lenses. After much back and forth a Moment engineer actually confirmed that, but Apple refused to replace the phone with one from another factory because the cameras work fine without the add-on lenses. I may now just sell the lenses, since iPhone camera sensors aren't going to be getting any smaller. :-Þ
Not heard of that before! The Moment lenses all worked great with my 12 Pro Max. But I know Apple uses different suppliers / factories when building their phones so I could see there being inconsistencies. Shame Apple wouldn’t replace it! Thanks for watching! ✌🏻
If you invests in a canon eos R 10 years from now it will still be a good camera but if you invest in this pro 512 go iPhone 10 years from now might not even turn on bc of battery or stupid updates that makes that phone unusable
I just bought the Anamorphic lens for my IPhone 14 PRO :( I was so excited and waiting for it… now I’m pretty sure I will return it as soon I get it. Thank you for the video.
Большое спасибо за видео, оно очень помогло! Заказал только чехлы, а объективы заказывать не стал. Для меня важна исходная картинка, без редактирования и искажений по краям. Привет тебе из Москвы!
Thank you! I’d definitely recommend the either of the Anamorphic’s and the Macro for an 11 Pro Max, as these add new ways of shooting with your phone. The Fish Eye too if you like that ultra wide action camera look. The Tele can also be great for taking portraits as you get a nice natural shallow depth of field with the Tele lens mounted over the 11 Pro’s Main Camera. Moment’s lenses work a lot better with slightly older phones like the 11 Pro Max. If you want to have a better idea of how they’ll work on your phone, I do have a few videos showing how them on a 12 Pro Max (I skipped the 11!) Thanks for watching! ✌🏻
Great video!! I just bought their gear and none of moments accessories for the iPhone 14 pro is an easy fit. The snap on filter is impossible to get on, I gave up after 1 hour. The drop in lens mount doesn't fit properly and the Mobile filmmaker gage magasafe, is not very secure! I bought their accessories for the iPhone 11 Pro and that was amazing. The new gear sucks!
Oh wow. I'm glad I saw this. I had the Blue Flare Anamorphic, and case and mount, in the cart and ready to buy. I figured I'd watch a couple more videos first, and I'm glad I came across yours. Anyway, time to go remove from cart...lol. Thank you for the save.
Glad I could help! But yeah if you have a 14 Pro I’d hold off for now until Moment update their lenses. I’ll hopefully be testing some other brands of lenses soon. Thanks for watching! ✌🏻
I have all of the Moment lenses. All of them. Your review here is on 100%. Moment has told me directly that since the 14 pro series came out, certain lenses do not work as well as previous models. I would love for you to do the same comparison with the new Reeflex lenses. I have those as well and am pleasantly surprised in comparison with the Moment lenses.
Yeah it’s a shame some of them don’t work as well anymore. I’ve had mine for a while and got good use from them though. Hopefully Moment comes out with some bigger V3 lenses that are a bit more future proof. I think I’ve heard of Reeflex lenses, but not tried any yet. I am going to be testing out other lenses on the channel soon though. Thanks for watching! ✌🏻
The easiest way is to shoot using a third party app that can desqueeze the footage in the app when it’s shot. Apps like Filmic Pro and Pro Camera by Moment can desqueeze the footage in-camera. To desqueeze it manually yourself you can use an app like “Desqueeze”✌🏻
Could it be the case and mount? I use the beast cage on my iPhone 14pro max with the moment 18mm and have not seen the problem however I may not have looked to closely either!
Thank you! I don’t have a 13 Pro Max so I’ve not been able to test them, but from my understanding they should all work fine with it - (except for the Tele over the Tele Camera). In which case I’d suggest the Anamorphic’s - for a really unique look, the Macro - for nice shallow DoF close ups, the Wide - if you want better quality ultra wide shots, and the Fisheye - if you like that action cam look. With the 14 Pro Max I’d only suggest the Macro and Fisheye for the best optical quality with minimal dark edges or vignetting. Thanks for watching! ✌🏻
@@JCKRGB ah let me rephrase that, I was wondering what other lenses would you select best for 2023 iPhone lineups, apart from the ones you tested on the video :) I already watched your awesome review so I knew your verdict for moment lenses
@@Arda.D My bad! I haven’t been able to test any other lenses just yet, apart from Freewell’s 1.55x Anamorphic. Which is wider than Moment’s and also has some very slight edge vignetting (not as bad as the Moment lenses though) I’m hoping to test out some Sandmarc lenses soon though! Stay tuned! ✌🏻
Are these these same moment lenses you had from years ago? If so this is misleading. They have an entire new series called the T series that are made for newer phones after 2022
I bought the 18mm wide lens as a gift to myself for Christmas and I was so excited about it after watching all of the videos put out by MOMENT. Although it works well with the Moment App and the RTRO App, it doesn't work at all with other photography apps that I also love to use. I am glad you said something about the vignetting because I thought I wasn't attaching the lens correctly. My lens never seems securely locked in place inside the case. I'm always worried about it falling out.
Thanks for the video. I'd love to see a video testing the Moondog Labs anamorphic lens on the iPhone 14 Pro Max. I'm curious if it has the same vignetting on the edges
So is there a different brand that does not have the same problem? What do you recommend? If someone could get it right, I would love to have it! Leaving on a trip soon need to know if I should pass on Moment all together or what! :(
Check out my video on ShiftCam’s LensUltra lenses and my one on SANDMARC’s lenses (although I’ve not tested all of theirs yet!). Both of those brands don’t have the vignetting issues on the 14 Pro’s! ✌🏻
@@JCKRGB i watched all your videos! great stuff! it does not appear that the shiftcam ultra line is available for purchase yet? am i missing something? i would prefer them but i am about to pull the trigger on the sandmarc line. is there a place to purchase the full shiftcam line?
@@JCKRGB thanks for the response! Does shiftcam have a hard release date? I’m leaving for this trip in 1 month. It would be down to the wire if they release in 3 weeks. Might just have to go with sandmarc
I believe ShiftCam are aiming to ship their new lenses in July, which could move being a Kickstarter campaign. So yeah, SANDMARC would be a better option if you’re looking for lenses now! ✌🏻
Moment released the new drop in Lens mount. Before it was a 3D printed one when you did this video. Can you do a video to see if the new one final mount has the same issues? Before the moment website said they believe their lenses work with the 14 pro. Now they say it does work.
You might have trouble using the Native Camera App with a mobile lens. When a lens is over the camera, the app sometimes tries to switch to using a different camera and there’s no way to stop it. There’s also no way to set and lock things like white balance and shutter speed in the Native Canera App. Third party Camera Apps will let you set and lock all these settings and stop the camera from auto switching to different camera when a lens is mounted. Thanks for watching! ✌🏻
@@JCKRGB Actually I want to know can I get a better result with iPhone’s native camera app? What is your thinking? I’ve 12 pro. Can I get a better result with native camera app in photo and videography both?
What do you mean by a better result? If you have a 12 Pro you won’t have any issues with vignetting like you see in this video on the 14 Pro Max. But it’s still best to use a third party camera app for photography and video to avoid the camera auto-switching when a lens is mounted over it ✌🏻
Thank you for this review, very interesting to hear your take on the moment lens and the new pro cameras. I have four moment lens, I am wanting to order the case but unfortunately the drop in mount is out of stock! The main reason I am ordering the case is for macro photography, it was interesting seeing the comparison between the native and moment lenses. So far I have been disappointed with the 14 pro macro lens, as I am finding that my pictures are not as good as they were when I was using my SE2 with the moment lens. I am pleased that you have found that the moment macro lens works well as this is the only reason I am ordering the case. I am also looking at ordering the filter mount and anti glare filter so would we interest in your review and take on this.
Go check out Smallrig for their case for moment lenses. I bought one and even though it’s big on an already big 14 Pro Max, it’s a nice case/rig and since moment can’t seem to function with the market, go elsewhere w your money.
