Box sets are my favorite way to collect any manga. They usually have extras and posters, and are also usually cheaper than collecting individuals. I don’t like omnibuses because they feel to thick, and it gets uncomfortable to hold while reading.
I’m so grateful that you are making these videos! I always search for them before buying something and I’ve never been disappointed in what I ended up buying. So just wanted to say thanks for your hard and impeccable work!
This was way more in-depth than I was expecting, you know your stuff and don't beat around the bush. Easily the best Naruto box set video I've seen, thanks.
I started picking you the 3-1 and was pretty frustrated with the lack of availability. I supplemented the volumes I couldn’t find by going digital but it was still annoying! I definitely enjoy them just because I feel like I’m getting more bang for my buck. I’m seeing single volumes in newer series going for $15 now and it is really something else!
When did you start picking up the 3 in 1s? I noticed around late 2020 the 3 in 1s started to become hard to find. I held off on buying Naruto for years, but then decided I would buy them. I did have to buy a few single vols but they were very cheap.
So glad I found your channel. You do amazing work in these videos! You are a huge help to someone deciding which version and what manga to start collecting before throwing money away. After watching the beserk Akira and this video I think I am going to start with the berserk hard cover edition first.
@@jollama yea but like i said thats what i like about it so for some not a problem its a plus. Newspaper paper is maybe something your too young to appreciate but idk im just assuming lol
Plus 3 volumes in 1 book. So you be able to get through them faster. Collecting all 72 even though the covers are great it's going to cost alot of money.
This is a series I’m going to get the box sets, same with One Piece & Bleach, but Book Depositary hasn’t had them in stock in ages. The first 3 box sets of One Piece haven’t been back in stock at all this year, I bought the 4th box set months ago but it’s still saying “awaiting publication” on my order, but I’ve seen people with it 2 months ago. I got the first box set of Bleach but the other 2 box sets haven’t been in stock all year either, I live in Ireland so all my manga I have to buy from the Book Depositary.
yea bro same as me.. as a person from south east asia.. to get a manga, i need to buy it from book depo but, hell. one piece box set always out of stock
If I can't get a manga as 3 in 1 I rarely get it. Its just so much cheaper, feels like you get more, and looks prettier on the bookshelf IMO. Single covers are so much nicer looking on the front sadly
Great summary. I sound like a broken record, but I hope sometime in the future I get something akin to that box edition published in my country. The print quality of the current latin american edition of this manga leaves a lot to be desired, so it definitely needs a new, improved one. A box set sounds like the way to go. I wonder if this manga already has a Kanzenban version in Japan?
Those are some crazy prices! You can get all 72 volumes of the Japanese version for 34,848 yen. So about $348 dollars depending on currency exchange rates. If you buy them used, it is probably half that price. Also the Japanese in Naruto is not that difficult. I would say it is between N4 and N3.
I find it strange when people buy the box sets and then take them out and put them on a shelf. Especially for a popular series like Naruto, when you can find the singles for very cheap, way cheaper than the box set.
Thanks again for another flawlessly meticulous production on this Manga series. “Newspaper thin” pages are the kiss of death for my hobby standards the only way I can ever see that applying to my collection is with a super rare one of a kind obscure historical work or first edition literary masterpiece. It is possible because some brilliant authors in days of old had to pay out of pocket for thier first print runs and these volumes , if any still survive, may be “cheap and fragile “. 👑🌎
I have the complete series of the 3 in 1s and I kind of regret it because the cover arts of the singles are so much better than the 3 in 1s which is almost always just Naruto and nobody else.
I got volume 1-3 for the 3 in 1s, I don't care about the paper quality because its like the exact same, and the book is way cheaper because at my book store a Naruto book costs $12 while a 3 in 1 is only $23 so its a good deal
There's also another format that is called Library Binding for Naruto Manga but sadly it's only some volumes of Naruto not all of the volumes so if you want to collect the whole series it's better to go for the box set volumes or individuals or the 3 in 1 edition but if you want to go for the art then the individual or box sets would be for you for me I'd go for Library Binding of Naruto Manga cause it's very likely to be a Hardcover and I don't go for paperbacks anymore I go for Hardcover or the paperbacks that have protective layers on them those are the only paperbacks I would accept not regular Paperback.
Really Anime collective your videos are having full details about the topic and they are point to point.. It helps me while buying any manga... Pl tell me that mangas printed in Canada are considered to be legit? Because there print quality is not so good and it's front page images are bit visible.
One thing I just want to say is I hope you do a manga review of good night PunPun. I just finished it yesterday and man, It really did break me. It really is something that I’ve never seen or experience before. The way how I feel after reading it is kind of hard to describe but after reading it, but it’s like a hollow feeling. But what’s crazier is that after I finished it I watched rent a girlfriend (recommend checking it out. It’s trash lol) and even though I’m watching something that’s just trash entertainment, I couldn’t stop thinking about good night PunPun. Might take me a couple days to get this feeling out of me.
Naruto is one of my favorites. I used to stay up as a kid every Saturday to watch it on Toonami. Great vid! Itachi is my favorite. The two novels for Itachi's story are great as well
Someone on RU-vid I watch who has a “connection” with Viz says that the Vizbigs are dead. Although, they will reprint existing vols. It seems nothing new will be in that format.
One little error: I like to collect all 72 volumes and you said that you like the box set ones. After hearing you said "leave me a comment", I thought I oughta give ya a piece of detail. I had a box set 1 and the individual volume 21 once and I thing is misplace. In the chapter when Sasuke and Sakura have their moment, there was I difference in between 2 volume 21's. Sasuke box set 1: "you... Make me sick." Sasuke individual: "you... Will never change." That's all.
Hello thank you for posting this, I would like to check on the maintenance and care required for these books, do they age alot or get very yellow when kept for display with the occasional reading?
Be warned though the 3 in 1 sometimes have misprints on some 1 is known to have a misprint on page 131 I think if I remember correctly mine did didn't find out till way later so be warned
What about pages? I know they are thin but that's no problem for me. What I really hate is having problems with rhe binding. Do they fall apart in the long run or do they stand the test of time? For that matter b&w marvel essentials always had the thinnest paper I've ever seen in an omnibus edition and if you are not careful they are prone to rips and tears, however the spine really holds up after 30 years and the binding has really stood the test of time. On the other hand, vizbigs have better quality paper, thicker paper, but they fall apart as soon as you read a couple of pages. What about these 3 in 1?
Great Scott! I love the Naruto series! Trying to get the 3 in 1 Naruto books. I’m missing a couple of volumes but some of them is either out of print or expensive.
A mixture of vols is ok. I’m not sure where the elitist “single vols are best” came from? The only people I know like that are the ones who started collecting in the late 90s. I see many wannabes collect singles. You can spot them a mile away, I think.
@@jollama Oh? I have many single vols and omnibus and hardcovers/etc. I have seen some “questionable” paper in both. In my opinion, they are all good. I have never seen bad paper with anything I own. Maybe some vols pre 2005 were “bad”.
@@jollama The FMA hardcovers don’t have paper issues, but they have issues with the foil embossing flaking off. I’m glad I kept my singles for that! I even saw flaking in my B&N.
@@jollama I also recall back around 2018, my friend who had the original TokyoPop Love Hina vols, we compared to the Kodansha vols. The Kodansha omnibus was thicker than the TokyoPop vols. I guess it just depends?
To Me I Collect Them In Single Volume's Because That Way I Can Also Buy Other Manga's With My Naruto Volume's. I Buy My Manga From Either Books-A-Million/ RightStuf.
I wanna get the box set but I already have the original prints, I’m missing like half of them but I don’t wanna buy them new because the shoen jump symbol is different on the spine so it’s gonna bother me if I don’t find them with the old orange symbol on them
I made the mistake of buying the 3 in 1 volumes. It's been over a year and I'm still waiting for some of them to restock. If I had a do over, I'd buy the box sets too. It's much less of a headache to collect.
You should do some research before buying a series. Don’t say it was a mistake. You can have a combination of single vols and omnibus, right? Box sets are nice, but most of the time you can buy those single vols for used cheap, if you want to do that. I held off buying Naruto for years, but have a combination of Omnis and single vols.
