@@juddlebot2146 This is just false tho? The gr86 sells like 90% manual iirc, same with the wrx and they both offer automatic options that barely sell. I agree for the general population auto is preferred, but these are enthusiast cars, and enthusiasts by in large want manuals.
You're right, but i personally prefer the current designs as opposed to the over-stylised garbage of the 2010s. Even if they look similar to one another.
Yes there really isn't any different designs like in old school cars. They all has there unique touches. Now they are all just selling each other's designs. Now they all basically look the same.
As far as I remember, the Lexus LFR or Toyota GT3 concept that was tested in Nurburging last week was intended to be used in the GT3 class at WEC 2025/2026, whereas according to existing regulations, to be able to take part in the GT3 event at WEC it must be based on a car that is sold to the public ( legal road cars)
including inflation the cost of the car didnt really grow by that much, looks like your salary didnt either. Id suggest you to change employers and work for some company which increases your salary atleast as much as yearly inflation every year.
wow actually not at all I double checked if what I said is true and the msrp according to kbb in 2013 was 26000$ now its 35500$ INCLUDING SOME OPTIONS so (base price is 29k atm)
Yeah, Toyota Lexus hybrids are the way to go, but they are being overpriced by everyone, especially Toyota hybrids. You are better off getting a used ES 300h for the right price
That’s because you’re dabbling in tow sectors at once … the rising cost of ICE and added battery and electric motors will always make them way for expensive. Lots of added parts to make it work.
@@mezo72271 In the state of the world where hybrids 4-cylinders are the end all be all, I don't think you should be complaining about ANY V8. Also that's MEGA sweet of you to shout out AMG, seeing as they replaced the C63's V8 with a 4-cylinder hybrid too.
Because, like the NSX, they were priced way out of their market. There were other brands with the pedigree of being sportscars in the same price range that were better options.
I hope they clear out soon enough what coupes they will launch. S-FR, gr86 replacement, new mr2, new celica, new supra...There are simply to many sports cars in order for them to coexist; there isn't enough of a price differentiator.
What does "needs to be done right" even mean? In the end no matter what the end result will be, people will always whine about something. That's just how things are.
I love high displacement V8s but Porche is doing something interesting with making a hybrid turbo. Basically they sandwich an electric motor between the intake and exhaust impellers to insta-spool the turbo before the exhaust pressure builds, so you can (this isn't what they're doing) have a small, high strung turbo 4cyl with a bunch of turbo lag, but fill in the low end with electric motor and/or spool MUCH quicker with an (as Garrett call it) e-turbo. I could see Honda maybe doing something with an e-turbo mild hybrid coupe in the nearish future. They're new and very expensive right now, but I see no reason why they shouldn't come down in price as the newness fades.
GR86 rumors have been floating around since the introduction of the GR Corolla. It's not happening. A hybrid is 100% not happening with the current platform. Best Car is off the mark - again.
Yeah they're all over the place with that car. Suggesting a 5 door shooting brake. Honestly don't see any way the 1.6 turbo makes it in there hybrid or not. Too costly imo.
Keep in mind those are renders made by the magazine company, not actual concepts for those cars from Toyota/Lexus. Remember how beautiful the renders for the new Integra looked compared to what we actually got 😅
I think with the less kids being born these days that coupes are going to be making a comeback for those people who don't need four doors, four seats, etc.
@@ArtoliannOH yes it is. Your not paying attention. If it wasn't for the depopulation Agenda which is still in progress there would be more like 10 billion on this Earth. Studies in the past 10 years have shown that there are less and less children being born every year. Every country in the world elderlys are out pacing newborns except for a couple of countries and the are just above by .02 percent of the norm. By 2030 approximately 1/3 of the population will be wiped out. Oh if you didn't notice and not knocking you because most people aren't paying attention but we are in WW3.
@@FlikksverdelgerOverly dramatic with "dying out" hahaha, no just less ppl born which is good, if you cant afford kids dont have em its the most basic knowledge we grew up having here in advanced countries
I'm really hoping that the new 86 uses the GR motor with an e-turbo setup similar to the new 911. The four door/wagon models would be surprising to see, but I think it being an 86/Prius fusion of sorts would make it ideal for the many people who can only have one car. It would definitely be nice to have a small RWD four door on the market.
I think the hybrid system for the GR86 will be a mild hybrid. The iForce Max powertrain adds 350-400 lbs of weight which on a light sports car is a huge amount of weight. Toyota recently launched the 48V mild hybrid system for the Hilux and it adds around 35 kg (~80 lbs) while providing a 12kW(~16hp) and 65N.m(~48lb.ft) boost from a small motor and lightweight battery. Since this system uses a belt-driven motor generator it also allows the use of a manual transmission. It will also be cheaper for an entry-level sports car.
That V8 will permeate throughout the lineup in a very detuned form. The V10 didnt make sense and too expensive and outdated by the time it came out. With the Germans restarting dev on V8s, Lexus needs this.
All I can say is, I'm glad I got my '93 SC400 14 years ago and spent too much money bringing it back to 85% original condition with minor performance upgrades😁
Imma be so fr rn, we will not see small, roadster, quirky cars in the USA. The EPA, the lobbyists, and more factors make it hard for companies to make fun little cars like that. So, with these new sport cars, ig we just gotta be grateful we get them in the first place because more and more people are getting SUVS. Auto companies are here to make money. The closest we have to a quirky little roadster is the Miata.
Don't forget about the Fiat Spyder. Both Mazda MX-5 and the spyder share near identical interior. I chose the Mazda because it has a 2.0 in it and 25 more hp. Going to install either the BBR turbo or Edelbrock supercharger.
I’m literally so excited. When I bought my Accord coupe in 2015, there was nothing really else to choose from that was fun and affordable from the Japanese. No Prelude, Celica, Solara, Supra etc. Previously I owned a ‘95 Celica and ‘07 Solara Convertible. I’m like a kid in a candy store now.
What lot of people do not know is that the KingSlayer supra was actually a 3SGTE 2.0 engine. If the new BRZ comes like that, it would be Toyotas way of making a hard come back with their sexiest car at the moment. That’s because of their Supra’s controversial collab
I’m so glad they’re turning away from the Subaru engine in the gr86 I’ve been asking for that for so long but they better not change the looks or get rid of manual
I'm probably most excited about the hypothetical "SC" because I could actually afford one if they can keep the price $80-$100k. My dream is an all new Lexus purpose built sports car (ie light) with >450hp and a manual transmission that gets decent enough gas mileage to justify as a daily driver. It sounds like with their new engine it might be possible to get pretty close to this. Obviously a LFA 2 would be cool but effectively just another super car that I'll watch some car reviewers gush over and that'll be it. There's already plenty of cars like that.
Looking forward to see what comes after the RCF ( most exiting car for me in the current line up ) in the M4 segment that’s my main focus and what’s exciting for the brand along with the new LFR. Let’s see Lexus. If they dont have a full F model in the M4 segment or try to brand them GR im afraid BMW is going to look more appealing as a peformance brand because they have their house in order with branding and focus in terms of stability.
It was about time Toyota dropped the boxer from the GR86. With the i3 turbo and hybrid system, we'll most likely see weight go towards almost 3,000lb. I hope they offer a i3 turbo, non-hybrid, manual, under 2,900lbs and priced below $30k. I feel like that would still be marketable AND a bargain if it were to still make at least 250-275hp. RIP to the 2.0 Supra though, they killed it when they didn't offer a manual.
Kirk, To save development costs, they could build the new Lexus SC on the TNGA-F platform as a body-on-frame RWD sports coupe.😉 On a serious note, hasn't BMW already announced the Z4 is toast? Without a new Z4 from BMW, a new BMW/Magna Steyr Supra seems highly unlikely.
I think the Skyline is definitely coming in 2025 for the Japanese market at least because Nissan in Japan is doing well and wanting to keep up the momentum for their upcoming ARC lineup. Skyline is also Nissan’s only sedan offering in Japan so Nissan is very serious in replacing it as soon as possible. Nissan in USA is all messed up though, with EVs being a failure in general and Nissan cars not selling well. So I don’t see Nissan building the Skyline/Q50 in the US quite yet, although they better be coming in Japan by 2025. Right now, Infiniti is picking up good momentum with their new QX60 and QX80 products. They better not miss the Q50 or it’ll be over for them. I’m sure they know this and are working to get the Q50 developed, at least for production in Japan.
@@chezzyperson3339That would be ideal. But I don’t know is there’s any r&d going into making a larger Infiniti sedan. Maybe when the Maxima is revived in the future like Nissan kept saying then we might see a Q70. Then it would make sense to build it in the US.
I think the speculated new GR86 and BRZ will be just a incoming face-lift for the twins. Kind of make sense if we track the timelines for refreshes. All aside, I am happy that we reviving old nameplates.
Probably 2025 will be the last year of the LC500 and then a complete redesign featuring a TT V8 arrives with electronic boost to go up against the Mercedes AMG 55. Expect all-wheel drive, dynamic steering, AR/AI electronic voice assistance and a $150K starting price! It will be an AMG-killer!
I pray that a new celica is on the way with a similiar powertrain as well as the gr four awd system that the gr corolla has. its been too long since we had anything worthy of rally racing from toyota.
The Prelude looks pretty good I would like to see one in all-wheel drive though maybe Electrify that rear axle and give it a little more juice. And throw in a nice 5 or 6 speed manual
Nissan has been stupid far to long! All they have to do is get rid of the cvt or made is reliable! The funny thing is Toyota makes cvts and they last. I think Nissan is way to cheap or stupid or both! I like the recent Nissan designs but that cvt they can keep that smh!
1.upcoming Gr86/BRZ will be fantastic and excellent. 2.upcoming HONDA PRELUDE is just going to be a better looking civic or Accord in two door couple style and nothing else .3 UPCOMING Lexus coupe will combined LC and RC into one luxury coupe which is the right move. 4. UPCOMING LFA replacement will be fantastic and can't wait for it. Can't wait until all these vehicles come out .
Mild-Hybrid CAN be manual. I do have a mild hybrid Ford with a 6 speed manual gearbox. On my car the system gives a boost when accelerating, powers the electrical and can turn off the engine while coasting under 20km/h to a stop
Love that companies are still making fun sports cars, currently I only have room for one vehicle which I have an Integra Type S. In the future I do want a fun manual dedicated RWD sports car so hopefully most of these cars come with the option of a manual and that would make me happy.
the synergy drive can collect power on braking to power it's batteries and electric smaller turbo but when combined can create more linear power, I am gathering this is where it's going.
Idk why you say you are the least excited about the gr86. Because that’s what excited me the most in this video. Maybe I’m missing something? That legendary 1.6 paired with an electric motor. Why not?
I personally love manuals but I have talked to a lot of young people about this and they simply don't want a manual. Paddle shifting is more their thing.
Prelude in 3 trims Sport Hybrid, Sport Touring Hybrid and Si with a manual available (hopefully) mimicing-ish the Civic since they will use the Civic drive train and (again hopefully) keeping the vehicle near Civic pricing. If it sells well they bring a type-R in 2 years.
How would it be a BRZ without a boxer, though? It’s literally in the name. If Toyota goes that route, wouldn’t it just become its own thing separate from the BRZ? Also, it’s still in its 3rd model year. Bit soon for a complete redesign.
the 3.0 litter, is a great engine. i had one in my mitsubishi montero. usa. put twin turbos on that engine, 3000gtsrx. ol most had that engine in a 92 eclipse.
When Subaru eventually re-releases the STi, i wouldnt be suprized if it 1) was a hybrid, 2) was full on EV or 3) was a combination of the two where a combustion engine powers the front wheels, while an electric motor powers the rear wheels (like the AWD Corolla). In any case, it should remain a boxer layout powertrain unless it's the GR Corolla/Yaris engine... or a flat 6 hybrid for the STi.
On one hand its great that Toyota wants to keep the GR86 alive by giving it an engine that allows it to be sold with stricter emissions. On the other hand I dont want to see a turbocharged engine in it and I am worried the I3 is gonna raise the COG. Could defeat the purpose of the car.
We used to have littely skynline in combi Who remembers steishia? Or Volvo? You can make happy everyone if you had to? YES YOU CAN!...To bad Steishia was always Demestic TRUE JDM SUPRA FANBOYS!
Honda Prelude should be (as it has always been) an Accord coupe with a manual transmission and a powerful 4-cylinder engine. Considering today’s engine line up, I’d say it should be something along the lines of an Accord coupe with the Civic Type R drivetrain.
Everyone going BEV...smh even Porsche this is the end of an epic era. I'm buying a GR86 and turbocharging it and modding it till it's a spaceship. Seems like the best modern JDM option right now
