Lmao but at the same time, he looked the same way when he retired too. Dude just turned 40 at age 18 and stayed 40 until he was actually 40, then he cut his hair and put on some weight.
can you blame him, the knicks have been horrible since he retired. too much drama being in new york. the fans are two faced, and if you have a couple of bad games they will turn on you.
The big fella was always my favorite player. Not sure why, I grew up in Florida. Until his feet betrayed him he was ALL time. Great shot blocker, floor general, maybe the best shooting center in history next to jokic. If I could meet one player it would be Patrick Ewing.
Losing a mother is only tragic if you were close to her what about those who abandoned their loved ones and didn't give any good excuses. If my own didn't want me i not crying down my life and hurting my own self by feeling bad for someone else. In KAT's case he had a loving mother but has to learn along with others that we are here for a short time, even if its 100 years it is still short because the hours in the day are very short plus you minus the hours people sleep and time wasted.
Crazy to look back at 16/17 Sixers had the 1st pick (17 Traded from Boston) and the Celtics still got the best player in both drafts. Ainge is a genius.
76ers just picked bad. Embiid is their best pick at any draft position since Iverson. Celtics could tell who was going to be picked when trading down. If anything they traded down to pay less, as they knew who they wanted would still be on the board. Good draft for them.
I was happy that night when the Spurs picked Tim Duncan. David Robinson carried the team's winning flag for years. But with Duncan joining the team, the Spurs became the best to beat, if you can in the whole league, and won 5 championships with him as Spurs player.
Technically, if we're going by rookie season performance, then it's this guy @1:02. The best number 1 draft rookie player ever and he was great from the beginning
Damn i feel bad for Anthony Edwards though 1st overall and he didn't even got a chance to walk to the stage and shook the hands of the commissioner like how all the legends did
Stunted/Injury Riddled Players and Draft Busts since 1980: Ralph Sampson (1983): he and Olajuwon were the original twin towers, but injuries really hampered him. He played like 70 games in his last 3 seasons combined iirc because of the injuries. Pervis Ellison (1989): could never stay on the floor at all. Had his best season in his third year tho where he averaged 20 points and 11 boards, winning Most Improved Player. Joe Smith (1995): the dude drafted before KG. Singlehandedly bankrupt himself by flushing 61 million down the drain. Was actually very good in his first few years but eventually just transformed into a roleplayer. Also had that controversy with Minnesota. Michael Olowokandi (1999): was very talented but untouchable, as Kareem puts it. An unwillingness to accept criticism, a detrimental attitude and a billion knee surgeries eventually ended him. Kwame Brown (2001): I still applaud him for having an otherwise solid career, but the pick was still horrendous, especially since it's Michael Jordan as the GM. Everyone knows what happened so I won't explain it. Andrew Bogut (2005): dude was an insane defender, singlehandedly making the Bucks a top 10 defense iirc in his prime, but that horrific injury robbed him of his stardom. Still managed to win rings tho with GS. Andrea Bargnani (2006): I honestly don't think he's that gargantuan bust as everyone puts it, but the numbers he put up still doesn't justify his draft position. He was a black hole on defense and his shooting didn't really carry over from Europe. Greg Oden (2007): Still think he would have been very good had not for his injuries. Doesn't really help that KD was drafted after him tho. Derrick Rose (2008): No, Rose is not a bust. That's just heretical stuff to say. But the ACL injury robbed him of so much at such a young age. He definitely would have done a lot more down the line, like more all star appearances and a huge chance to be first ballot HoFer. I'm very proud of him for picking himself back up however and rediscovering himself as a professional basketball player. Anthony Bennett (2013): I know the draft class as a whole was very weak with Giannis and Gobert being projects, McCollum being not that highly touted and Victor having to go to 3 teams to be an all star, but what the fuck was Cleveland thinking? Markelle Fultz (2017): he has the talent, and I still think he still has a lot of time to at least create a respectable career, but that number one pick potential is long gone.
@@praveenfernandes734 No, because Ben Simmons isn't a bust. He didn't play the season immediately after he was drafted, but the next season he was ROY, he's been a three-time all-star and he led the league in steals in the 2019-20 season. He doesn't play like a #1 pick, but that's not the same as being a bust.
We’ve had our ups and downs and everything in between… Daugherty- Solid pick in a rough draft LeBron- Obviously off the charts Kyrie- No brainer pick- possible HOF Bennett- Maybe the biggest bust in NBA history Wiggins- Had potential to be great. Good trade. Solid career
It was sad how many of those guys we all said in our head “Could have been great if he stayed healthy” But that’s the NBA. You can’t just be great, you have to stay healthy.
Shaquille, Iverson, Duncan, Yao Ming, Lebron James, Dwight Horward, Bogut, D Rose, Griffin, John Wall, Irving, Anthony Davis, Wiggins, KAT were good #1 picks I personally think Zion, Edwards will be important to nba history
Bruh David Robinson? He's the greatest rookie ever at number 1 Draft pick. Have you seen his rookie year performance? No number 1 pick has yet matched his performance average
Love how it starts with Joe Barry Carroll. Warriors got that no.1 pick from Boston by trading Robert Parrish and another draft pick (Kevin McHale) haha what a trade.
Probably would take Kyrie over Rose just because he’s a better shooter. Otherwise, I think everyone else is the correct call. Hakeem would easily be the debatable one for bigs but TD and Shaq are too good to leave off the starting line up.
@KINGRECKLEZZ being a number one pick is an honor, you'll always be associated with that, that's how. Do you realize how ELITE of a club that is? What percentage of men ever get that privilege?
Yes. I think it’s because most picks back in the day were drafted upon completing college. Now players are getting drafted with only 1-2 years of college or straight out of high school. That can be a about 4 year difference in age.
@@jaybdub77 yeah but the likes of Bron and Kobe were coming straight out of high school into the draft and look older than most guys now. Kids these days just look younger than previous generations at their age.
I remember that draft, and I remember that a lot of people didn't know much about him and thought he might not work out. But I guess the idea was he had so much potential if he did. He was like the Giannis that never developed.
AI seems like a good #1 pick, especially compared to the others we see here, but that 96 draft class was so deep. Hall of farmers left & right in that draft: Kobe, Nash, Ray Allen...
No, it just means that that one player alone wasn't enough to change the fortunes of the franchise. Larry Johnson was ROY in 1992, and teamed with #2 pick Alonzo Mourning the very next year, to lead the Charlotte Hornets a first round victory in the playoffs that same year. Mourning hit a buzzer-beating, midrange jumper in game 4 to win the series.
@johnanderson9765 David Robinson @1:02 proved you wrong because he instantly took a very bad 20-62 Spurs team and turned into playoff contender, 3rd best of the WC as rookie, and became all-star already being 3rd best in his position as well as one of the best players in the league. Probably the best rookie ever with high performance stats
1984 1996 2003 my top 5 in their position 84' C: Hakeem olajuwon PF: Sam perkins SF: Charles Barkley SG Michael Jordan PG: john stockton 96' C: Ben wallace PF: Marcus camby SF: Peja stojakovic SG: Kobe Bryant PG: Steve nash 03' C: Chris bosh PF: Carmelo anthony SF: Lebron James SG: dwane wade PG: Jose calderon
some takeaways from this video: cavs had the most #1 picks with 6. they also had quite possibly the greatest #1 pick of all-time in lebron james, while also quite possibly the worst #1 pick off all-time in anthony bennett. the lakers #1 pick james worthy in the 1982 draft, was originally from the cavs (funnily enough) from the infamous stepien era. this is also the first and only time a reigning NBA champion picked first overall. 9 teams have never won the 1st overall pick so far
Bigs are just rare. If you get a franchise big, you're set for a long time. Sadly, bigs often are injury prone and / or "projects" when they get drafted. Look at Wiseman for a recent example.
I’ve been watching this since 2019 and since I’ve been watching basketball since 2019 and no number 1 pick has been a bust so I hope banchero isn’t a bust so I can keep up my streak
@@renji-san5273 yeah if cade Edwards and Zion’s have good years it’s save to say there not busts but paolo will have to have 2 good years to prove he is not a bust cuz u can’t judge people off there rookie year
As I was watching this, I was feeling like I saw more and more busts the closer we got to the present. Even if a player isn't an immediate bust, it's hard to live up to the hype of being a #1 pick your whole career. You can start off ok, get injured, and just kind of fall off.
