I THINK the token discarding is meant for regulation; if your level's too high for whatever reason, these'll let you refresh to get in the window. What for? No clue, but I'm spitballing here.
Given the fact that the projections of the Mecha Phantom Beasts look nearly identical to the Raye hologram from “Sky Striker Ace Token”, I choose to believe that this archetype is a prequel to the Sky Striker lore.
This is hands down my second favorite archetype of all time (Machina is my beloved sorry). It was the first deck I learned to play in MD when I was getting back into Yu-Gi-Oh, and it does such an awesome job combining the card effects with the Art and theme of the monsters, plus Dracosack looks so cool. Hope we get more support in the future.
I really appreciate the use of "The Liberation of Gracemeria" from Ace Combat 6 over this video. This is one of my favorite archetypes, having always been an aviation nerd for the majority of my life!
See, even Nova agrees that WIND is undersupported with a lock in archetype cards support and no generic ones unlike FIRE that has been constantly supported in the last year and WATER with their generic ones
You know what would be a really cool card design? A field spells that stores extra tokens you could summon as counters, gains effects that boost consistency based on how many it has and that has the ability to summon any number of tokens by removing the same number of counters.
Mecha phantom beasts are my favorite archetype. It helps that aviation is my life but these cards are really fun when playing casually and have the potential to be broken if you know what you are doing. I hope we get more MPB support in the future. (Also i really appreciate the use of liberation of gracemeria, ace combat deserves alot more love than it gets.)
As a big Mecha Phantom beast fan my hot take is they could un ban Auroradon and now that Halq is banned Auroradon will do nothing. The only reason it did what it did was the Deskbot 001 reactions. Cant reliability search 001 now also Auroradon is a pain to summon without Halq
Well, betting here that the Construction of "Aeroguin" was sub-contracted to the Penguin Archetype, most likely in an attempt to buy some protection from those feathered Menaces
This archetype has my favorite artwork in the game by a long shot. Everything in here looks amazing. The hologram projections look great along with the stylized aircraft.
I've run a Mecha-phantom deck. Cards I've run with the Tribe include Fires of Doomsday and Black Garden for more token generation, Gravity Blaster, Metalsilver and Raregold Armors for double protection/boost, Limiter removal (token protection is great), Ancient forest+Yang Zing Unleashed/Justi-break/TT/DH for mass one-sided field wipe (again token protection great), Astral/Spirit Barrier (tokens count), Obelisk/Destiny Hero Plasma since tokens can be sacked make good boss monsters for the deck. Extgra deck included Dracossack, Big Eye, (Chaos) Dyson sphere, Gustav Max, Catastor, Black Rose Dragon, and Jaculuslan.
I used to have a Jaculuslan turbo deck that leveraged Auroradon and the SpeedROIDs to summon the Concord as the level 7 requirement. You won't get to discard their whole hand at once, but it was somewhat consistent to summon 2 Jaculuslan with at least 2 tokens on board each time (sometimes 3). It was definitely a one-trick pony deck, but it was a fun puzzle of a combo deck. Definitely takes some IQ points to *pilot*.
I remember using this deck during the N/R rarity Event in MD. I won each duel due to the fact Mecha Phantom's Token effect works with any Token, so you cannot get rid of these guys easily. It was insane.
Auroradon was a menace in a different way and that was when Barrone de Fleur was still pretty new as it was introduced into Master Duel. If Auroradon is ever unbanned I would want to run a Mecha Phantom Beast deck for myself.
Mecha Phantom Beast. The archetype that proves that something can have more value individually, than as the sum of all its parts 33:22 Phantom Beasts AND you forgot Bellcat Fighter. Just look at it and tell me that isn't a mecha phantm beast
Really bruh, you aren't even going to mention the apex predator that is Number 42? A stealth bomber that shits out tokens like there is no tomorrow and single-handedly carries the remnants of this archetype (at least in Master Duel). For all your puns, you can't even deliver the copper standard, let alone the gold one. Now fix this travesty >:o
I love this archetype as a theme. But it's one of those set filler themes that Konami didn't put much thought into. Conceptually it's fine. But in practice, the theme is trying to do too many things, without enough consistency for any one of those things. Their best Tuner works generic enough and got itself banned because of a completely unrelated deck. Same story with their Link monster. And Dracossack, while amazing at the time, was generic and used by literally every deck other than itself. All their support cards and other members of the theme are too limited. They do neat things, but come with heavy restrictions and costs. They expect you to dump tons of effort and resources into mediocre effects, when other decks do infinitely more for less investment. I hate how Konami handles these fill themes.
