Ah, alt-J! I really like this bands creativity and originality.
First song I ever heard by alt-J was ‘Fitzpleasure’. I was hooked. Then ‘Every Other Freckle’ was introduced to me, this raw and sexy yet beautiful and real piece of songwriting. I once tried to write a song inspired by it, a pretentious and forced outcome - it will never see the light of day.
I was a little late in the game; this was in the early spring of 2015 (‘Fitzpleasure’ was released in May 2012). I was living in Stockholm and working my first restaurant-job at Sthlm Tapas in the district Kungsholmen. I would sit on the night bus after work and listen to alt-J. Hypnotized by the city lights and lost in dreams, almost wishing I wouldn’t arrive at my station - with that robotic voice announcing my upcoming bus stop, reality would hit like a slap in my face and the dreaming would cease.
...or... dreams need action
Some time ago I was practicing my ukulele, trying to get something decent out of it with a little help from the good ol’ Freckle-tune when this video idea came to mind. Ideas, like dreams, also need action (revolutionary!). In my head it was a short and fast project but reality is somehow always different - maybe I should practice being more realistic (or maybe that naïveness deteriorates fear?).
Anyway, TA-DAAA! My tribute to this song ☺
