Things to take note of: Boris Becker was in 5 finals, won 3 titles Becker won in 1989, lost to Edberg in 1990; Forget then won in 1991 and lost to Becker in 1992; Nalbandian won in 2007 and lost to Tsonga in 2008; Ferrer won in 2012, lost to Djokovic in 2013; Medvedev won in 2020 then lost to Djokovic in 2021 All of Safin's titles happened in consecutive even-numbered years, winning against Australians in the first 2 Federer won his first Grand Slam 8 years before he won this Masters 1000 title Djokovic won the title before Federer Djokovic won three times consecutive, the first time it ever happened Lendl and Nadal never won this title
Maybe The First Matchball Was The Most Legendary, Cause Boris Becker Finished 3 Weeks In A Row On 3 Different Continents As The Winner. It Is Still Record.
@@tomnguyen1015haha yup. Beware some weak era champ fans may confuse that with most ATP250/500 and challenger titles - which is the only category that RF can lead
Many of the all-time greats are here, yes, but - but the number of one-offs is spectacular. Rune, Khachanov, Soderling, Rusedski, Ferrer, Berdych, Henman, Sock and Grosjean (what the...?!) - none of them won another masters 1000 in their whole careers. (I' don't think Mansdorf and Mayotte did, either.) Rune should change that in the years to come, but who knows - did Karen? And what finalists even! Stepanek, Krajinovic, Rosset, Hrbaty, Pavel, Shapovalov - names to remember, with difficulty. Unique masters event, no question about that!
I think it's cuz it's in later stages of season, where are players are tired and frankly not motivated enough, I always found the post US open season strange because a lot of players are tired
@@Nikica40, quite true. Sometimes it's almost distressing to watch post-US Open simply because everybody looks like they at death's door. The Paris Masters also suffers because it's so close to the Tour Finals, many top guys naturally prefer to save their last strength for the latter.
I think Sampras still can't believe he lost to Rusedski in an offical tennis match :-0 With that defeat it ended 9-1 to Sampras. No love lost between the two.
That 2018 result might be omen for final going on now. Djokovic had to play 3:03 hr. semi. against Federer in 2018 before losing to Khachanov - 1 minute & 1 game longer than yesterdays win over Rublev.
10:51 Federer won his 18th Masters title and was considered as GOAT in those years. Novak is now on his 40th and still there are some who denied that Novak is the greatest
