A fun strategy I like to use with puff shroom is to spam, use plant food when some are about to die to refresh all their life spans, and keep doing it until i have an army of them, each plant food use refreshes their life span and makes each of them rapid fire
The puff shroom is actually god-tier early defense: -Costs less than the gum on my shoe -it boosts all other puff shrooms aswell -it will disappear over time, so no need to sell it

The Sun Shroom is amazingly powerful in situations where you have Enlighten-mint and can pop them down ahead of time. The mint instantly brings them to their big form and produces a ton of sun in the process. So, in other words, it's really useful in Penny's Pursuit and Arena.
The best way to complete very hard levels with endangered plants I would use a first strike puff shroom, because whenever it’s plant food effect activates all the other puff shroom’s plant food effects, which also restores the puff shroom.

To add on to the Sun-Shroom point, ever since the Primal Sunflower just does a lot better outside of Dark Ages, so there would never be a use for the Shroom.
Another listing. Including Pea-nut and hypno-shroom. 7. Sun Bean: Very difficult to justify over another sun producer unless boosted. You need a very tough zombie to make meaningful profit. I found using Solar Sage a better choice. 6. Hypno-shroom: This relatively low placement is not because of Wild West day 35. I just find it to be difficult to justify using when unboosted. It also faces competition with Caulipower, which is largely superior and to some extent, Turkey Pult and Zoyabean Pod. I should explore it more but for now, it is a mere second last. 5. Magnet-Shroom: A very important plant in its homeworld and can pull Punk Zombies heads off. Outside these two worlds, its usage is almost obsolete. Plus, if someone has Puffball and to some extent, Goo Peashooter, that phases out the Magnet Shroom as the poison damage can bypass armour, metallic or not. 4. Puff-Shroom: There are many good strategies using puff shroom. They include spamming and using them as the first line of defence as you set up your economy. Its nerf didn’t help it in the spamming though it is somewhat remedied through its plant food. Basically, this along with Lightning Reed, is strength through numbers. 3. Pea-Nut: I should get it and use it more because of its reinforce-mint combo. I see it being used in the front and used that way. Just be mindful that should it lose half of its health, it attacks at half speed. It may struggle to hurt the zombie kings and can't hurt jester. 2. Fume Shroom: Very useful in its homeworld to blast Jesters and zombie kings. His plant food effect is very good as well. He faces competition with laser bean however. 1. Sun Shroom: Among the most cost-effective sun producer but it does take a while for it to really pay. Sure, it faces competition but until I got Moonflower, this was my go-to sun producer. It also has one of the best plant food effects out of all sun producers.

Surely you meme The Sun Shroom is absolutely overpowered, the single best Sun Producing plant, even with Shine Vine in mind It costs 25 sun less than a Sunflower, but after only 2 cycles, produces 75 Sun, same as Primal Sunflower, but again it costs 25 Sun and NOT 75
I think that the moonflower is the best sun producing plant with two rows. Although it takes more time you can easily stall zombies and build up your two rows. Sun shroom is pretty good though.
My Way: 5th: Sun Bean - *Not great, it's more like a nut than a sun producer* 4th: Puff Shroom - *Used to be a boss at the game back then, now it's nothing but trash now, dont try winning a level with this thing* 3rd: Fume Shroom - *The range is average..* 2nd: Sun Shroom - *Later on, you will need bigger sun....* 1st: Magnet Shroom - *The only shroom that will be useful later on, has a good power up and recharges faster than chomper!*
The only things that i disagree on are: 1puff shroom;you forget that using a power up not only resets it's death timer but also can be passed to other puff shroms without the use of power up tiles plus because of it's fast recharge it can used as a shield in daire situations or just spammed mindlessly i genuinely cannot understand why so many people trash it just because of it's nerfe they usauly just don't know what ther talking about or just don't know its other mecanices with the power up. 2sun shroom:25 sun 25 SUN that is something you missed about it that make it great also it's growing prosses is not as slow as you maki up to be

At least its Plant Food resets the timers on all Puff-Shrooms, and gives them all Plant Food at once. 4. Magnet-shroom, why must you be so useless? Hardly any Zombies even have magnetic armor. At least it has some use in N.M.T. 3. Sun Bean, it can make sun in a pinch from a really strong Zombie. Just try it against a Poncho, any of the Robots, or hell, any strong Zombie. Good to get that initial start. 2. Sun-shroom, a pretty cheap sun producer that, initially does worse than a normal Sunflower, honestly does good for its low price. For a plant that hits sun hard for cheap, it’s good. 1. Fume-shroom. Can I seriously understate the true utility of Fume-shrooms? No. It damages multiple zombies at once quick and easy. It is impossible to avoid or not get hit by its fumes. Heck, why even both using Red Stinger and A.K.E.E in the Lost City? Fume-shroom can easily do both of their jobs for less than both of their prices. Even in Ancient Egypt, Fume-shroom obliterates Camel Zombies. Quick and easy grave clearing too. Long story short, Fume-shroom is one of the best out there for free. And how many levels do you need to get it? Four.

My rankings come faster than Newspaper Zombie (The only thing faster than Officer Earl) 5th: Puff Shroom (Already a weak scrapper (See my pvz 3 reference) with poor range, but his lifespan makes him worse.) 4th: Sun Bean (Similar to your reasoning, but he’s slightly redeemed for his good plant food) 3rd: Magnet Shroom (I can see his use for zombies with metal, but since he can’t work against All-Stars and there are just better plants out there, he just ain’t really my cup of tea persay.) #2: Sun Shroom (Great plant food, but due to the amount of time it takes for him to reach his 3rd form, you’re better off with Primal Sunflower) #1: Fume Shroom (A Laser Bean with weaker range, but is still highly effective in other worlds, so that’s why he’s my top pick.) And next one is my favorite world, so can’t wait for that!
Puff shroom is a god tier plant. Cost 0, fast recharge, decent damage, plant food affects all puff shrooms on the board without the need for tile turnip, and their life is refreshed when they’re powered by plant food. Easily one of the only plants in the game where you could win entire levels without using anything else at all. Not even sun flowers or defensive plants. Very few other plants can do this.
Dark Ages Tier List 5. Sun Bean- Costs the same as a sunflower but has to be eaten like the chili bean. No positive things about this bean. It just sucks. 4. Magnet-shroom, Can at least kill punks but is almost useless on Zombie King. 3. Fume-shroom, Kills Jesters, Shovels, Camel zombies and other straight-projectile blocking zombie. Just is a bit low on damage. Good thing is it can blow zombies back on its Plant Food. 2. Puff-shroom, a plant that for some reason is nerfed and buffed. Lasts for a limited time but doesn't need coffee bean. Ultimate ability is Op affecting every puff-shroom on the field and lasts them for a bit of time. 1. Sun-shroom, One of the best sun-producing plants in the game. Original gimmick but its cheap and spammable making it very reliable on expensive plant strategies. P.S: My own opinion, don't take it too seriously.

5. Magnet-shroom It takes in buckets, knights' helmets, the metal grate on half of poncho zombies, punk zombie heads, and that's basically it. Buckethead zombies aren't very common, and the others are world exclusive. Punk zombie and poncho zombie aren't big threats though. The only thing it's really useful for is knight zombies and the dark ages zomboss. That's 4 levels after it's unlocked. I don't think it's plant food even throws the punk zombies' heads. 4. Puff-shroom This is a good plant, unlike magnet-shroom. It can easily be spammed and it does ok damage. It's free. Its plant food ability affects ALL puff-shrooms on screen, and it resets the despawn timer. The plant food does quite a bit of damage too. It helps with early sun production because 1 can kill a basic zombie and 3 can kill a conehead. 3. Fume-shroom. This is here because it's permanent and it does area damage, but it has a slow attack speed. Its sun cost of 125 is very bad in dark ages because no sun falls from the sky. It's very good when you have 3 columns of them with a wall-nut in front. That does cost 2025 sun though, but it isn't much outside of dark ages. It's plant food is really good because it's like a hurrikale that does a lot of damage as a tradeoff for hurrikale's chill. 2. Sun Bean Yes, sun bean is in second place. Sun bean stacks and is very useful when there are strong zombies like bucketheads and knights, which sometimes comes too early. It isn't too early when you use sun bean though, because they have a lot of health which makes sun bean give a lot of sun. It also has a plant food that insta kills zombies that eat it, giving a lot of sun. 1. Sun-shroom This is a sun producer that costs 25 sun so you can get them down fast. It first gives 25 sun, but then goes to 50 sun and later 75 sun. It's crucial in dark ages. It's also very useful outside of dark ages. Stalling plants give more time for the sun-shrooms to grow. Sun-shroom not only gives a lot of sun, but also grows upon using plant food on them.
I beat Wild West Day 23 wiith a Melon-Pult + Snapdragon strat. I used Snapdragons on the lane closest to the flowers and Melon-Pults in the minecarts, plus using a boosted Sun-Shroom as a Sun producer, and Primal Wall-nut for defense. With only replacing Primal Wall-nut every once in a while, I was easily able to beat this level.
i use the puff-shroom in any level i can because it recharges quick, costs nothing, and disappears after a while, so it's literally just FREE DAMAGE while you set up everything you can, it takes care of most regular zombies in the start of a round so that you don't have to worry & panick-plant, you can strategize more, it's literally the perfect "plop down & forget about it" plant.

Since no one else seems to have commented, modern football helmets are made of polycarbonate fibers with many face guards comprised of carbon steel or titanium. So it is accurate that the magnet shrooms have no effect on them.
@Jeremy Sebastian Yeah. Power Mints aren't that hard to obtain. The only reason I don't have the Enlightenmint is because that one's obtained with seed packets rather than mints.
Puff's purpose in PvZ is spam. Need to stall a Zombie quickly? Puff. Need a quick defense? Puff. Need to save sun really badly to save time to produce and plant something big and powerful? Puff.

Sun bean (When a zombie eats it, when damaged it drops less sun than the sun bean costing 50 sun, so it can't be your main sun producers as for high health zombies you would want them to die quicker or insta-kill instead of leaving them for sun and not all tough zombies eat plants) 4. Puff-shroom (Although this plant is pretty good despite being nerfed to last a short period of time, it is a literal free attacking plant, even though I put this plant in A tier, compared to the other dark ages plants like fume-shroon and magnet-shroom, it ranks lower due to its low damage and the fact that there are a lot more tougher zombies in pvz 2 than 1) 3. Fume-shroon (Does damage to zombies in a lane and it's a great counter to the jester zombies, but it's damage isn't as good as something like the laser Bean and it's range is the thing that sucks on him too) 2. Magnet-shroom (It's a lot more useful due to a lot more zombies that are strengthening due to the metal that they have like bucket heads, knights, vents wearing zombies from the wild west, I don't know what they are called but yeah) 1. Sun shroom (Not only extremely crucial in dark ages as sun doesn't drop from the sky like the other worlds do, but it's one of the best sun options in the game despite taking a while to get to it's full potential of 75 sun per drop)

But, puff shroom is the best boosted plant in this game. The lifespan will be limitless, the quantity will be ridiculous, and basically all of them shoots massive damages.
Poof shroom is good for stop Bull zombie and allstar charge, slowing gargantaurs, and protecting another plants from octopus zombie by planting them and deleting after octopus zombie throw an octopus. They can also be used with very expensive plants to upgrade sun production

When boosted or given Plant Food, Sun-Shroom will actually grow to its fullest stage, and gives three large suns afterwards! That's why it's better than the Gold Bloom in my opinion.
Oh yeah, the plant food is great, but I would rather just get a burst of sun instantly for 0 sun rather than spend a Plant Food, especially as if the Shroom gets eaten, you gotta start all over again

Unfortunately a small world, which lost a lot of potential, but brought some darlings back (and luckily they don't need sleep :v) 1. Fume-shroom: one of my favorite plants in the game with a incredible plant food, that although its cost increased, its damage doubled 2. Magnet-shroom: It's just not top 1 because it doesn't work on All Star 3. Sun-shroom: A good sun producer, that I prefer to use than Sunflower 4. Puff-shroom: Because of its nerf compared to the first game, it turned into a pretty bad plant, and almost useless for me, cause the instants are more useful for my strategy 5. Sun Bean: I hate it. And its level too. >:(

My list. 5:sunbean. This plant is utterly useless as when you get it you will never use the stupid thing! And there are better sun producing plants and the plant food is just utter garbage 4:puff shroom. I like the puff shroom's design but not the gimmick of disappearing after some time but the plant food makes up for it because it resets the timer on how much time it has to live 3:sun shroom. This plant got a massive overhaul in the dark ages part 1 update as it is now one of the best sun producers in the game and the plant food is just amazing 2:magnet shroom. This plant is probably one of the best in the game due to so many zombies with metal things on them, this plant is also required for the dark ages boss! Not to mention that it can decapitate punk zombies and the plant food is.. Well... It's nasty, just take my word for it (nasty in a good way) 1:fume shroom. Ok magnet shroom is number 2, fume shroom is probably my number 1 and sun shroom is the 2nd best sun produce other than primal sunflower ( excluding premium and gemium ) but that's just my opinion Also f in the chat for puff shroom. Got nerfed. I'm still saying it'd be one of the best plants in the game if it lived forever. No reason it shouldn't POPCAP. Here's my list: 1) Puff-shroom: Still remains in the first place due to zero cost and fast recharge. My only complaint is limited lifespan unlike pvz 1, one must use the plant food to win the endangered plant level. Overall, it's great for early defence. 2) Sun-shroom: Back when he was sorta fragile in pvz 1, now he's better than sunflower, how ? He can now produce 75 sun, you can use the plant food effect to make him grow up right away. At least, he still shines in other worlds. 3) Fume-shroom: He's still my favorite plant today. 4) Magnet-shroom: While it can grab metal items and punk zombie's head as his weakness, it can't take out the helmet of all-star zombie unlike pvz 1. It used to be in top 3 in pvz, now it's number 4 here despite being good. 5) Sun bean: Useless unless you boost it with plant food effect. A high defence zombie should eat it to get more sun otherwise you lose it all.
@@KhajaSodhu I wouldn't consider it superior but that's for starters. Because sun doesn't show up at night, you'll need an early setup that is puff-shroom. No way to start with fume, ice or doom until you plant some sun-shrooms to help you with late game defense.
Eh... I don't put Magnet on 1 as it is basically meh in huge waves. And I dunno about you but I always preferred Sun-shroom than Primal Sunflower. High burst for higher cost barely sets me up for early defense. Sun-shroom's cheaper cost and eventual profit allows me to put up early defenses. I did not even use the Primal Sunflower in my Jurassic Marsh run as it is slow to set up sun production to start.
