the video is a "buy our stuff" trailer. of course 3D era isn't there, you can't buy those. you can buy Legacy though, which has been barely mentioned for the past 10 years. but you can give your money to WB for it, so in the video it goes! GOD I hate this company.
There's plenty of more important characters that don't show up at all. Shinnok, Sindel, Kenshi, Nightwolf, Rain, Ermac, Cyrax, Tanya, Frost, Bo'Rai Cho, etc. All these have been playable in more games and played far more important roles than Meat, or even Smoke, Fujin, etc. Scorpion, Sub Zero, Mileena, and Baraka seem to show up the most in this art. None of which are integral to the main story.
Well of course! You can't understand the MK lore without mentioning the greatest secret character of the series! LMAO At least Meat is fun to play in MKA So far this art has been the best treatment he (and Stryker) have had in recent years.
I feel that I have to point out how awesome Shang looks snapping Liu Kang's neck in the artwork. The obscured face with the green and angry eyes, I'm a little happy they showed some love for the 3D era in this artwork.
Great video! TOTALY agree on the game preservation jab.... they just need a FULL Kollection of the MK games.... it's sad when Darkstalkers beats out Mortal Kombat to the punch when getting a collection out. 🤣 Btw, I love Darkstalkers 😘
So far this art piece has been the best treatment Stryker and Meat have had in recent years. As a Stryker fan I feel happy my favorite underdog appeared there ^_^ (especially in his Armaggedon outfit which I find very underrated)
The disrespect to Stryker is acc getting annoying. Not a fan of him but he’s honestly not bad of a character. Surprised to see him there considering him and smoke are literally forgotten in mk11 despite being the only 2 revenants left out of the undead clan
While I do Feel Something MK Relate is Coming soon to Celebrate the Anniversary but I do Love this Poster Art that brings so much Love to the Franchise.
Yeah, pretty sure we're gonna see new MK stuff announce later on this year based on what Ed Boon said. I'm still holding out hope for a 30th anniversary collection title since they referenced so much 3D era games on the 30th anniversary poster.
4:26 I just noticed that Jade here is wearing her default MK9 costume, but for some reason her gloves are from her MK11 revenant costume. It even looks like she has grey revenant skin on her hands.
That first Raiden pose I think is from the old MK2 arcade cabinets. Except here they're using his MK1 costume. I'd assume the MK2011 pose is a reference to that classic cabinet art. In MK2 Reptile does have a lizard head under his mask, which he removes when he does his tongue lash fatality. Similar to Scorpion removing his mask to reveal a skull. Doesn't explain his long nails and pale green skin though - so I guess they used the Scorpion MK11 design as reference. Mileena's pose looks kinda like a pose you'd see Baraka in. I think it matches his weapon stance, and the pose he's in for the character renders / bio cards in Deception. No reference to MKvsDC despite them still classing it as MK8 - which is dumb.
It would be so damn simple. "Klassic Kollection" MK Trilogy, MKIV, Mythologies. (Special Forces optional) "3D Kollection" DA, Deception, Armageddon. (DC vs MK optional) "Kronika Kollection" 9, X with all DLC. This is not rocket science.
Porting games isn't as easy as just copy/paste. Even going from older versions of Windows to newer versions can be an issue (for those games which had a PC release). Modern consoles don't offer backwards compatibility any more either.
No Shujinko though, for some reason. Or Taven, actually. It includes Onaga and Monster from Deception, the Pyramid from Armageddon and such things as chess kombat, motor kombat, a dizzy Sonya, Stryker sucker punching Mileena, and MK11 Jade shadow kicking fucking D'Vorah, but not, you know, the protagonists of Deception and Armageddon's Konquest modes. Nice little video BTW and it is some decent art, I just thought it disappointing that the two didn't get mentioned in this here 30th Anniversary Art Piece. Say what you will about them, but they were still the protagonists of two mainline entries. It's a shame they didn't get included to celebrate the 30th. One might say that Onaga & the Pyramid of Argus represents them, but that just seems like a copout.
Onaga is the only 3D era character to appear. Shinnok doesn't even appear. Nor Sindel or other important characters. But they made sure to include around half a dozen appearances of Scorpion, Sub zero, Mileena, and for some reason Baraka. All appearing more than even Liu Kang, Raiden, and Shao Kahn (characters actually integral to the story).
@@EndoScorpion not surprised tbh, Fujin did become a massive fan fave in mk11 in terms of story and gameplay and onaga did have a great reputation as a villain mainly due to intelligence and shao Kahn fearing him. The rest did not get much love from NRS, unfortunately
Your video should be part of the 30th anniversary campaign, hosted in a hotsite together with the download of the art in high resolution. I bet NRS think these details are "dumb"... it took 30 years for Midway/NRS to build a franchise and now they treat it like an afterthought.
Hoping for some 3D representation in a game maybe. I know 2D is the go to now but everything from Deadly Alliance to MKvsDC definitely has its fans myself included. Also Shaolin Monks remaster???
Nice breakdown there and I'm surprised with the 3D love as well. I was really hoping for some classic MK game ports. Its weird how they refuse to make easy money.
3D acknowledgement but I doubt there's love involved. They just googled names for modes and traced the images. That specific Chess frmation with those characters in those positions is the 4th image I got by searching "Chess Kombat". And guess what comes up if you google "mortal kombat stage traps"? The thumbnail for the video "All stage traps on Monster"! I bet they didn't even realize it's a hacked NPC, I'm sure they thought it was Scorpion!
Considering how much modern Netherrealm seem to despise the 3D Era, I am stunned that their anniversary stuff contains any references to it at all. Then again, I don't think that the 30th Anniversary *video* has a single clip or scene from the era whatsoever, which doesn't surprise me if I'm right.
Yeah that hurts so much, Taven and shujinko were really protagonists I liked in the game, and plus Mortal Kombat Armageddon to me was the ultimate Mortal Kombat Game to date even up to this day it still holds up, it’s a shame that Taven and Shujinko are left out.
it's good that there are no newcomers from 11, but it should be called "30 years of the same OGs". while *some* stuff from the 3D era is there, none of the characters from there are present. not even those who appear later (like Bo' Rai Cho or Kenshi). again, it pretty much revolves around the MK1-MK3 gang, and not the whole list at that. Nightwolf isn't there, other cyborgs, Ermac... but Meat is? come on.
I would specifically want a MK4/MKDA-MKA collection. I can accept the 3D era is treated as a punchline now (don't ask for these characters to not be jobbers), but show it some love. These games never reached modern systems and even MK4 and MK Trilogy are now on GOG. I've just been messing around with Armageddon's kreate-a-character because of talking to my friend about it and it's a perfect time to bring it back and put it online after SF6's beta with custom characters. 4:01 You just know none of these modes are ever coming back, especially not kreate-a-fighter. I asked myself why not with all the new technology, but then I realized Ed or WB think no one would buy the DLC characters. But then, Soul Calibur 6 has a custom character mode as well as DLC, and, as mentioned, Street Fighter 6 fully embraces custom characters.
I wonder if MK12 will be somewhat of a "transition" game, before MK13 is the start of a new trilogy. Think about it this way: MK1-3 is the 2D/Classic era. MK4 is a transition to 3D, but I don't see many people include it in reference to the 3D era. Generally, MKDA-Armageddon is considered the 3D era. Then we got MKvsDC (which is considered MK8 for some reason). Then MK(9)-11 is the NRS era.... which ends with a reset. So: 1-3 4 5-7 8 9-11 12 I doubt this was done intentionally by Midway / NRS. Could be interesting to see what they come up with if it was though.
The sub-zero with the skull is when he smack scorpion with it when they were fighting in shalon monks intro or it an be when he just do the original fatality off of the original mortal kombat game (1992)
This is so uneven that it makes me think it was done at the last minute, like "oh shit in two weeks is the 30th anniversary, we GOTTA do something to save at least part of our reputation!" So they started tracing preexisting art and screenshots they thought they were cool literally off of google (that Monster image is the thumbnail for the video "all stage traps on Monster" it actually comes up near the top if you google "Mortal Kombat stage traps"! I'm sure they took it without even realizing he's an NPC who can't even be in that situation without hacking the game) and they tried to represent as many games as possible but only off the top of their heads, so they are like "oh Motor Kombat, Chess Kombat, the pyramid, yeah this will shut up 3d era fans" but they didn't include anything from Deadly Alliance because they couldn't think of a keyword to google, and they didn't make sure to give fair representation to characters at all, instead including a bunch of Scorpions, Barakas, Jaxs, and Subs-Zeri but no Sindel, Ermac, Shinnok, Kenshi, Shujinko, Taven, or MK11 newcomer because they didn't think of having a checklist or anything... but TWO images of Meat happened to come up so they're there! The way they are all put together to form the negative space of the logo is legit cool... but hey in my scenario they had two weeks to do it, not literally 1 minute!
I think in the big 30th anniversary trailer all they're implying they're re-releasing is the cartoon (only on digital so it's bad when I can watch on RU-vid) MK 1 (because they have to) and MK9 (likely cause it's NRS) I'd rather get nothing.
“Netherrealm and WB have done nothing for MK’s anniversary” Hey sometimes less is more, that may seem bad but you could do worse like Konami selling NFTs for their anniversaries
Mortal Kombat 1 is still available on GOG as part of the "Mortal Kombat 1 + 2 + 3" set. I think it's the DOS CD-ROM version, but that was the best non-emulated port anyway.
This could be far stretched but notice how all the artworks are much more updated and why would they go into that much details for the artwork and expect nothing , I am thinking a kollection is on the way giving newcomers a chance to play the klassics & in the trailer raiden says in the beginning “Is it possible the past is colliding with the future” now I know that line was from the story but I feel like they used it for the trailer to be subliminal with their messages. Never say never.
Mk9 is playable on xbox because of backwards compatibility but it would be better of they just re released it on all modern systems ps4 and 5 xbox one and series x
Yeah, Reptile had the dino head in MK2 when doing the tongue lash fatality (where he tongue-whips an opponents head off and eats it). However, the costume deisgn seems to be referenced from that MK11 Scorpion skin. It seems the artist did very minimal research for reference images. Some other commenter pointed out that the chess board and stage fatality on Monster being some of the first things to show up on a simple Google search.
Had to celebrate it myself. Spent that whole day watching the films, played through the Mortal Kombat Deception arcade ladder / konquest mode. Tried to beat MK3 (Motaro shut that shit down lmao). It just blows me away that I had to find my own ways to celebrate this milestone. Makes you wonder if ed boon and tobias never split up, and it was still midway. You know the OG crew would be celebrating the HELL out of this.
All this says to us, how much NRS and WB "love" MK and their community. I mean, they could have done at least something, than this stupid art. They could have put together a collection of classic MK games for modern systems, like they did with MK HD Kollection that you can't get anywhere these days except torrents. And that would have been enough until their next game announcement. But nope! They gave us a middle finger. And then they wonder, why their community is so toxic and disrespectful, when the answer lies on top of it all.
Titans need to be erased and retconned back out. They break the lore so much. Not to mention Kronika is the stupidest MK character ever. She literally defeated herself and assured her own failure.
@@EndoScorpion Nah Titans push the lore forward, they existed along with the One Being & Elder gods from the start & did not want existence to have choice unlike the Elder gods.
@@Kentrc11 Before the Realms there was only the Elder Gods and the One Being. They were opposites and in an eternal timeless battle. The One Being fed on the Elder Gods. The Elder Gods tore the One Being apart and in doing so created the realms and TIME and existence and mortals. Supposedly, the Titans are above the Elder Gods. And Kronika is the Titan of Time. Meaning time must have existed before the Elder Gods. Yet the Elder Gods created time using the One Being. Shinnok wasn't the Elder God of Death either. The Elder Gods held no such roles. He only became associated with death after he betrayed the Elder Gods, was defeated by Raiden, and sealed in the Neatherealm, before killing it's previous ruling God (Lucifer) and taking control. Only then did he become acossiated with Death. So to have Cetrion be a God and life, and opposite to Shinnok, that's a major retcon. Kronika is the dumbest mf in existence too. She caused her own failure and downfall by bringing forward the good Liu Kang and Raiden who were still allies. Then tells them the only way to defeat her is if them two worked together. Not only that, but by doing this she alerted everyone to her plan and her existence. The whole "restoring the balance" thing was done in MK2 and Trilogy anyway. Where it talks about unbalancing the furies (negative and positive forces keeping the unstable universe from collapsing onto itself). Kinda reminds me of the Kamidogu - which could be the physical representation of the furies. See, all this lore interconnects and weaves together.... until the NRS timeline and Titan show up and nothing makes sense any more. The introduction of timetravel didn't advance anything, it erased 2/3 of MK lore and screwed up MK1-3. The introduction of Kronika, the Titans, and the ending of MK11 has erased pretty much everything - depending on which ending they go with. We could be starting over AGAIN. But this time back in 1500's.
If you were writing them in a shitty way, which will get lots of complains from fans. Even if they were written competently, they would still complain considering realistically plot would last 10mins. Plus with liu or Shang in power, they could have had the titans wiped out to stop massive threats coming in from the future. The only thing they push is fucking power fantasy to try and rival marvel and dc only to fuck up collasally in the end
@@EndoScorpion Wrong. Titans like Kronika would not be able to parent or destroy elder gods if they did not have abilities that rival the One Being. Centurion says Titan Kronika is her mom. The Titans & the Elder gods existed with the One Being.
What a horrible and disapointingnwaybto celebrate a 30 anniversary! Just a video? No Classic HD collection or 3d era collection or a MK9 HD rerelease? Or how about merch like figures , artbooks, comics an animated series i would even accept some MK characters in Multiversus or Fornite to celebrate something not just a video that didnt even cover the MK 4 _ Armaggeddon era games
0:00 I don’t know; that sounds like a decent anniversary celebration even if it is sparse on actual game content. You’re really not selling me here on this take 4thSnake; no two ways to slice it, even if you’re not actually looking forward to the content.
