While 4 had it's problems, Jill is hands down my favorite Ghostface. Fame and fortune is a surprisingly uncommon horror movie motivation, despite it being one of the most realistic.
True but i still feel the 4th is the most forgettable one, i love the 1st and the 3rd, what i didn't know was the killer in Scream 3, Roman, was the overarching antagonist of the movie. He corrupted Billy Loomis into starting a killing spree along with his friend, Stu Macher. Maureen Prescott was raped by the producer John Milton and his gang while acting as a B movie actress and she gave birth to Roman. She abandoned him causing him to fend for himself in Hollywood. Roman wanted revenge and believed that he should have all the fame that Sidney had. So he had revenge and wanted fame as well, just like Jill, but i feel his backstory is way deeper then Jill just being a teenager who's jealous of her cousin.
Basic 👱♀️ motivation. Very on nose. Lol before I even saw it I assumed Emma Roberts was a killer because I looked at cast and I'm like who needs a career boost/change. Hayden had tried already w teen stuff and failed. I'm like hmmm Emma just left nick so odds are her. And YUP.
ZOINKS scoob I'm feeling a little woozy here I need a Scooby snack. Also fun fact All scream movies have actors from scooby doo Scream: Matthew lillard- Shaggy Scream 2: Sarah Michelle Geller- daphne Scream 3: freddie prinze Jr- fred Scream 4: Linda cardellini- velma
Randy should've been the killer in Scream 2. I feel like that was a huge missed opportunity. It could've turned out he was helping them in part 1, but when he got betrayed the secret died with the original 2 killers. His lust and denial for Sidney could've made him want to continue the original plan (movie). It could've been great.
Imagine a being a killer and being about to stab someone and he's like "I'M GAY!!!!! I'M GAYYYY!!!!" And the killer be like "Oh...r-really? I...I didn't know you were so...uh... *puts knife down* s-sorry..."
@@dragonlord3376 Yeah, but still one of the better moments in the movie... I mean that it felt like an horror, it made me feel uncomfortable and scared in a way, and I'm sad that the ending felt like an poorly adapted video game, at least for me, they should have really get skarsgard more scenes like with the Little girl during the baseball game and not so much CGI
@@annasin1987 maybe it's just me but i thought the cgi was pretty good, Pennywise's monster faces looked pretty neat but the ending could've been better, 8/10
@@mr.lightzplease9366 Yeah, but honestly, if I were to watch the first movie for the first time today, i would have probably thought that those two were gay.
I was reading why 3 sucked so much and it had several things going on against it. Neve had a busy work schedule because of her show so why she was limited in film. Plus columbine just happened so the movie censors were hardcore on cutting blood gore etc. Then yes was rewrites etc but there were other versions and I'm like bruhh...that's the best one compared to some
Legit went to the grocery store as it was closing at midnight last night. I definitely got some looks from the employees that they wanted to ghostface me, but I made it out with 3 minutes to spare before closing.
I had a hunch that Scream 3 would be the lowest on the list. The only thing I liked about it was seeing Carrie Fischer and seeing Randy one last time even though it was "beyond the grave". I hate the voice changer thing just as much as James does, but I hated the pulse thing even more. It makes absolutely no sense at all how Roman had no pulse when Gail checked it and ended up being the killer.
It would be so, so easy to just have her see the body and stagger backwards without checking the pulse. You've just discovered a body, it's a reasonable reaction. Just take those two seconds out and the plothole is gone. It really makes no sense that they'd put that in there and yet still use him as the killer.
TheHearseMn That's what I assumed when I watched it. It's amazing how many people can't find a pulse when they are checking for one (hence why untrained people are told to check for breathing instead of a pulse). So I can forgive that one, although I think I hated the explosion kill even more than James did. Loved the Warburton (spelling?) cameo though.
For those who don't know, Scream 4 was released in 2011, 15 years after Scream 1. Early this year, Blumhouse Productions is interested in reviving the film series and that studio Jason Blum was working on making the rest of the second trilogy.
Fun fact: Neve Campbell was one of the original ballerinas in the original Toronto production of The Phantom of the Opera in 1989 :)! I thought it was so cool when I found this out since I absolutely love Phantom of the Opera and I love scream so it’s neat to see those worlds combine
I think next month may give us another exception... But really it makes sense. The movies which are the most likely to get sequels are the good ones, or the ones which stand out for some reason. For the ones that stand out by the second movie the original idea has worn off for the audience and won't deliver like the first time. For the good ones there are many reasons why the sequel only has a very small chance of being better. I started to type them out but this comment was gonna read like a thesis.
Pertaining to Scream 4, being from the Ann Arbor area it definitely felt weird to see locations I grew up around used as Woodsboro, but it felt off for other reasons too. Maybe it was due to the fact Scream 3 took place in Hollywood and it felt weird to return to Woodsboro? Im not sure, but I would be interested in hearing more from you on the topic if possible. Scream is my favorite "scary movie" franchise and I couldn't' agree with your rankings any more. I found your channel recently and you have quickly turned into one of my favorite creators on the site. Just wanted to say keep it up and Go Blue! Also Randy is the best character in the franchise without a doubt. I was so happy they worked a way for him into the plot of Scream 3. And the gay people don't die in modern horror movies was just absolutely out of left field and probably the most bizarre thing about the franchise next to the god-like voice changer.
Bryan yeah I had no idea what they were trying to say with the gay thing. Were they trying to say there are never any gay characters in horror movies so to survive you’d have to be gay? But still....
Austin Cantley Yep. Came out in 1999/2000-ish after he had Jack come out on Dawson's Creek which he was the showrunner of before leaving at the end of Season 2 at which point the show as taken over by Greg Berlanti better know for Arrowverse series of shows. (Arrow, The Flash, Legends of Tomorrow, Supergirl, Black Lightening)
My personal best to worst: Scream - nothing beats a classic. Scream 4 - this mix of humor, horror, and self referential nods made Scream something truly special. scream 2 - a gleeful takedown of scary movie conventions that manages to poke fun at terrible horror sequels without falling victim to the same fate. Scream 3 - a crafty and well-crafted wrap- up that really does bring a satisfying sense of closure to the franchise. ------------------------- edit: i wrote this before watching the video, i genuinely didn’t know the list was the same.
Everyone has their own opinions/views - Respect! :) Here is mine: 1). Scream 2 (primarily for the sound studio and the car scenes - pure suspense!) 2). Scream (classic) 3). Scream 3 (I liked it, several decent thriller scenes) 4). Scream 4 (it was more of a comedy rather than a serious thriller, and predictable) But that's just my humble opinion
I really like Scream 2. I can’t place it above the original but I can totally see why people would favor it the most. Timothy Olyphant was great as the killer.
I would swap 4 with 3 but other then that I agree. I think scream 1 is a brilliant movie but in my opinion the second one is better overall.Think about this: You have the opening scene, then the cici scene, then sidney gets attacked, then randy dies, gale and dewey get chased and dewey almost died, then comes the car scene and after that we are already at the killer reveal. Its just non-stop suspense. And then a nice plot twist with the second killer.
I've loved the scream series since they first came out and if you actually pay attention Stu is the most craziest killer out of the rest. All of them had a true and serious motive for killing but Stu jokes say " peer pressure I'm far too sensitive" he never gives a real reason. So I feel he just wanted to kill people.
i love that he says we dont know who lucy hale is, but, after scream 4, or around when it was made, she went on to do a 7 season show, and then 2 more amazing horror movies lol
Okay I have a theory, when Gale checks his pulse what if it’s a dummy, like it’s not real. It would make sense because he works with movies so he could’ve asked someone to make it for him, but I could be wrong..🥺
7:30 3 rules: no sex, never drink or do drugs, never say "I'll be right back" And sense no one is gay other than you than you cant have sex. Yes ik its dumb.
The show is actually better than most of the movies imo. But they share alot of the same weaknesses, those being occasionally cringey dialogue and shakey acting. Nonetheless they are both entertaining.
IMO the show is good yes but the movies are better, their my favorite horror movies because they mix comedy with horror, there's weaknesses yes but overall the movies are great and better. scream 3 is probably the worst if the 4 but there's still things in it I like, Dewey proposing and the big reveal of roman being the killer and Sidney's brother. but scream 4 was better than 3 IMO it's my favorite one after the first one.
1. Scream - 10 out of 10 2. Scream 2 - 9 out of 10 (criminally underrated) 3. Scream (2022) - 8.5 out of 10 4. Scream 3 - 7 out of 10 5. Scream 4 - 7 out of 10 Scream 2’s impeccable world building by establishing the Stab franchise based on Gale’s book is HIGHLY under appreciated. No way any of these sequels that crib off of Stab can be placed over Scream 2. Not mention it’s brilliant opening sequence and perhaps 3 most intense sequences in the ENTIRE FRANCHISE: Randy’s death, the cop car sequence, and Gale’s film archives chase. Also, Sidney’s role in the play Cassandra is also greatly done. Scream 2 is it phenomenal and it demands respect 🤣
This is My List 4. Scream 4 - Fine characters, stupid killers, good kills, horrible motives, just stupid. 3. Scream 3 - Great killer, some dumb characters, some good characters, mild kills, great movie. 2. Scream 2 - Great Kills, Great Killers, great motives, amazing scenes, scary, super good. 1. Scream - Amazing characters, Amazing killers, amazing kills, scary, mysterious, just the best horror movie.
Well James, to each their own of course, but I'm kinda surprised you didn't have Scream 2 at #1. I know the cafeteria scene was really over the top, but the Scream movies are kinda horror/comedy when you think about it, kinda tongue in cheek, maybe? Also, part 2 is considered by many to be even better than the first, but of course, everyone's opinions are different!
Fuck that. Scream 2 for all its flaws is one of the better sequels to horror films. Scream 4 was a brutal film but a failure to relaunch the series. Plus, Sarah Michelle Gellar. Scream 2 gets 1000 points alone for that fantastic actress. P.S. how is it okay to kill one of the main 3 cast in Scream 4 but it was a mistake to kill Randy in Scream 2?? Lol
The scream 4 gay bit, was all about how it wasn't really a rule. The social commentary is about how much more LGBTQ representation in movies there is, and people falsely stating that the rules of slashers were changed. Hence why the "gay" kid gets stabbed anyways. Remember, Scream doesn't break the rules.
I've finally worked up the courage to watch the Scream movies past the first (which I watched last year), so I'm revisiting your Scream content! Haven't finished the episode yet, but I do want to say that I think people are too harsh with the Scream 2 cafeteria scene. It's believable and it's quite fun if you roll with what's happening.
My personal ranking is the order they came out tbh for this specific franchise Edit: i actually immediately changed my mind: best to worst: 1,2,4,3 Re-edit: i actually agree with this ranking of 1,4,2,3 rip
After seeing James recount the Scream franchise and giving Scream 3 a lot more love while giving Scream 2 a lot more hate, I wanna see his rankings of them now, along with adding Scream (2022) and Scream VI
My mom and I have been doing a scream marathon with all 6 movies here's my ranking the scream franchise from worst to best. #6 Scream 3 2000 #5 Scream 2 1997 #4 Scream 5 2022 #3 Scream 6 2023 #2 Scream 4 2011 #1 Scream 1 1996
