Some already played it years ago but vods got taken down/privated, most likely from copyright strikes. I know Subaru, Towa, Sora, A-chan, Haachama has streamed it before.
I'd say it's more because it's unique for it's time, and was trending for quite awhile. as a horror game though, it's mediocre at best. the horror quickly loses it's bite after the first few jumpscares
It was during a time where indie horror games were at its peak, and this became a hit and eventually became an iconic indie franchise, not to mention its child-friendly aesthetics due to its inspiration from chuck e cheese (and the channels that played them that had mostly child audiences) made it pretty much every gen z kid's first horror game. But really, the reason why it became so popular was because of the dark lore and the theories around it
I mean, back in the day it was a novel concept. Even if the jumpscares get old quickly. And the animatronics have their different behaviors so I'd say is not as easy as one might believe. I think Scott Cawthon got lucky to release it in the time he did. It had just the right elements to succeed and become what it did. Specially with the obscure lore and community theories as the guy above me puts it.
@@kasupy_barrett85 It was the ghosts of children controlling the animatronics at night, having something to do with their bodies being stuffed inside after they were murdered by an unknown person (as far as the first game was concerned).
