but thre's a huge problem in the second part. It states something, that never been written , and we have been warned off in Matthiew 4:10 Since they try to quote the bible don't they? . Personally I've discovered it recently, by curiosity, because I liked it very very much, but strangely had never sang it after the first chorus so I didn't care but when I recently took time to translate the second part, I read that according to them "God3 would have " turned stones into bread" I understood why I had never bothered to sing any further than the chorus. Do you know that In fact it is one of the three propositions of the devil to Jesus in the desert? And Jesus refused to turn stones into bread ans said that "a man would not live only on bread but on any word come out of God. " then devil asked him to jump of the cliff to" prove he's from God", and Jesus answered not to test the creator, and finally he tented him to possess all terrestrial realms IF HE BOWED TO SATAN and Jesus answered he was here to serve only the creator. they would have been better off saying something like '' Jesus multiplied breads from 5 breads "and "multiplied fishes from the Jordan", or" God sent them manna,"' ect... one should beware, I reckon it is a dangerous sentence not to be repeated ever, but check it by yourself and do what you think is good. ..
I definitely live in this world but I will not call myself a child of the world (we are the world...as the song puts it). God calls us to be separate from the world when we are His own.
Only 10 out of 46 have died. Half of them since 2017. I'm not familiar with the whole cast, but if anyone was younger than Jackson, the last surviving singer might see it's 80th anniversary.
Harry Belafonte actually organised USA for Africa after seeing the Band Aid record. Bob Geldof was there and spoke to all the singers before the recording started.
And then everybody started doing it. Northern Lights, Hear N' Aid, and I think there was a kids version of We are the World where they were all holding up headsets to one ear. Hean N' Aid was awesome. I should go look for that now.
I was 33 years old when this classic masterpiece came out. So many great artists in one room..........THAT WOULD IMPOSSIBLE TODAY WITH ALL THE NARCISSISTIC ARTISTS OUT!
In was impossible 15 years later in 2010 with We Are The World 25. That was an ego filled failure, everyone was more interested in their own contribution than the purpose of the song.
@Contend4Truth It shows that she was at an age to know all the artists, as opposed to someone not even born, or a young kid. And can therefore appreciate the effort on a more intimate level. Hard to believe this has to be explained to you.
When I watch the original recording it looks obvious to me many of the artists just wanted a bump in their career & tried their best to make it about them. It was like they were singing over each other.
Another member of The Pointer Sisters just died last year and she died from cancer, now there's only one member of The Pointers Sisters left, it's just really depressing 😢
I loved James Ingram powerful voice 😊, too bad you didn't mention any of his R&B HITS as a SOLO ARTIST or those Great Classics Collaborations with other Great R&B artists, Pattie Austin, Barry White, El DeBarge, Al B. Sure 💯💥💥.
I knew June Pointer had died.Thru this Video I learned Bonnie n Anita had died as well.Ruth Pointer preserve yourself sweetheart, because, like Barry Gibb, you're the only one left.Miss all of the listed singers.Kenny especially touches me when Ole Freinds with Dolly is sung.Brings me to tears.
As 2023 about to enter its last quarter, that was about 38 years ago since this great song and video came out. Overall musical, song writing talent and original format MTV, are also no longer with us. Thank God for the 80s.
I was 5 yrs old when this came out, we all know we gonna die one day but to see people we once listen to no longer here make think the 80’s was the best.
you were 5!!! what do you know about the 80's. The 80's were the best 'cause the singers you listened to are dead ?? jeez you people are so pathetic with your thoughtless comments trying to sound like philosophers :-))))
Every singer from We Are the World WHO has passed away. I have a learning disability and even I can read and understand that. Jeez, people. Learn some reading comprehension.
Yes that's true many more still alive and Iwas saying Lionel richel he's still alive also he's one of my singers too Most af all Whitney Michael Jackson many more
We have not lost all the singers: Jeffrey Osbourne, Diana Ross, Cindy Lauper, Lionel Richie, Stevie Wonder, Dionne Warrick, Bruce Springsteen, Hall & Oates, John Cougar Mellencaff, Paul Siimon, Quincy Jones, The Jacksons (except Michael), Smokey Robinson, Kenny Loggins, Bette Midler to name a few!
✝️ Kenny Rogers ✝️ James Ingram ✝️ Tina Turner ✝️ Michael Jackson ✝️ Al Jarreau ✝️ Ray Charles ✝️ June and Anita Pointer ✝️ Harry Belafonte ✝️ Waylon Jennings
Yes, indeed. Our generation have witnessed the fall of the Berlin wall and the creation of personal computer computer and the coming of the internet. We have witnessed a paradigm shift. We are GenEx!
All that and even bigger paradigm shifts happening today… the dawning of AI, what looks like might be the collapse or undoing of our predictable climate, a once in a century pandemic, what feels like a late-stage capitalism implosion/reset, this post-Trump authoritarianism/anti-democracy bullshit we have to put up with and what looks like might be the beginnings of a reveal of a century long UAP/UFO crashed craft retrieval and back engineering program that may have included the collection of non-humans. Tin foil hat insanity. We may wind up literally seeing (and hopefully surviving through) the most extreme amounts of change that mankind as a species has ever seen. It’s wild to even list it here like this. What the hell, you only live once, right? Unless we discover that that’s not true either in the next decade or two. Insanity.
I'm in awe of all the talent that contributed to We are the World back in 1985 but happy that I didn't have to deal with the egos that went with the production of the song.
You left out the fact that this was the Americans version of “Band Aid” Do They Know It’s Christmas which was THE most popular song ever outselling Bing Crosby’s “White Christmas” BTW, Waylon Jennings is standing next to one of the Pointer sisters at the 8:42 mark.
Yes, many of our favorite Artists/Legends from this song has moved on to the "Light" but not EVERY singer from We Are The World has passed. Thank God! But every year that goes by I am in mourning that so many of my favorite Icons that I grew up on and wanted to emulate with their unique fashion (cause I sure can't sing) are no longer with us. I Wish to Thank them for all their Gifts to us in Song!! God Bless You All!!
Ain't it just like Bruce Springsteen to make a song about starving people in Africa about him? Yeah, I know he has a raspy voice, but he could have held back a little.
..........whoops, you got me there. I didn't read it right, interpreted it wrong. One of the many things I hate about being dyslexic (sp?) is that I read some things out of context from the way they were intended.
Bob Geldof was invited to visit during the recording sessions. He flew to the USA and when he got to the LA studio location he was shocked at the food layouts. He couldn't reconcile artists making a record to help starving Ethiopians yet having the most expensive chef prepared catered food laid out. He left.
I liked his music from the 80's. I grew up seeing him on MTV in the spring of 1983 with his music videos for Billie Jean and Beat It which featured Steve Lukather of Toto and Eddie Van Halen on guitar. And I saw We Are the World on MTV in early 1985 when my father was still alive. He passed March 8, 1986 from a car hitting him while walking across the street 2 miles from our house at night. I lost my mom on June 14, 2022 in the hospital because her lungs gave out, they had her on a vent for several days. The best decade of music was the 80's. Nowadays today's younger generations especially females worship Taylor Swift, lol.
By the time the "We Are The World" single was released in March 1985, the peak of Waylon Jennings' singing and performing career had already passed. The Dukes of Hazzard series finale had already aired on February 8, 1985, and Jennings had already written all but one of his U.S. Country Chart-topping singles, with his final one being 1987's "Rose in Paradise". Jennings certainly did not come off great in The Greatest Night in Pop, and his record sales gradually fell throughout the latter half of the 1980s. There is no exact translation for Karma in Swahili, but this is the closest: malipo kwa matendo yake -->> "reward for his actions" !
1 year later and people still haven’t gone to school…..it says EVERY SINGER *WHO HAS* PASSED AWAY, not EVERY SINGER *HAS* PASSED AWAY. 🤦🏽♀️🤷🏽♀️ Know the difference?
Jennings gave up his seat to Richie Valens who had a bad cold and didn't want to ride on the tour bus in cold weather. In the movie "La Bamba" they decide who gets to ride on the plane via a coin flip. Not sure if that happened in real life.
I do know we cant live forever, but I still get shocked when someone kicks the bucket. I cant believe the brilliant Pointer Sisters have all gone. Slow Hand and I Need You are favs of mine
Another notable singer that wasn’t on the song but should have been, and also passed away 5 years ago is Aretha Franklin. Gladys Knight and Patti LaBelle also should have been there.
Bob Dylan was a folk artist during one of the most pivotal times in our nations history. He was a pioneer for human rights to end segregation and he was also an activist during the Vietnam war. You guys have lost your mind. He’s not a traditional singer in the sense that you can compare him to others in that room. He was a folk singer that was famous for his songwriting. If y’all knew how brazen you’d have to be to protest black rights during that time, than you’d know how much of a legend he really is. He was more influential than many of the people on that stage.
Thank goodness all those who we have lost contributed to this amazing song and production! When it popped up in my FB feed, about 6 weeks ago! I have played and replayed We Are the World about 80 times. And continue to play it! ❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️
I remember Prince was invited, but declined. Where was Meat Loaf, Whitney Houston, and artists who are still alive like Madonna, Dolly Parton, John Mellencamp, Ann and Nancy Wilson of Heart, the members of KISS, and Stevie Nicks?
@@brandyl2183 Lindsay Buckingham was invited to represent Fleetwood Mac, I had forgotten about that. But I have no idea why Ann and Nancy Wilson were not invited.
They All Got Together Right After I Believe Was The Grammy's. So If They Didn't Attend The Grammy's They Weren't There. Others May Not Have Wanted To Attend.
Aretha, Streisand, Pat Benatar, Linda Rondstat, Tom Petty, Henley & Frey, John Fogarty, Glen Campbell. Who else did we forget? Evidently Van Halen were on tour at the time.
Not true. Lionel Richie still alive. Bruce springsteen still alive. Cyndi Lauper alive. Steve perry alive and so many more from we are the world video still alive research folks
Fake news… James Ingram did not record a duet with MJ…. The mentioned song is NOT on the Thriller because MJ is not in it at all… it is a duet with James Ingram and Michael McDonald!!!
I have always loved this song. You never hear it anymore. That's sad. Probably will go down in history as the best multi performer event in history. At least I hope so. Thank you for the video.
