@@RAINEYBOY I was also going to say Cherry Falls. It was released in the UK in the summer of 2000 but did not receive a US theatrical release unfortunately. Honourable mention would be nice 👍
I’ll just rank the ones I’ve actually seen: 14- Soul Survivors 13- Still Know What You Did Last Summer 12- Valentine 11- Urban Legend 10- I Know What You Did Last Summer 9- An American Werewolf in Paris 8- The Craft 7- Bride of Chucky 6- Halloween H20 5- Idle Hands 4- Scream 3 3- The Faculty (most underrated of all 17) 2- Scream 2 1- Scream
Zack, I couldn't find Soul Survivors here on RU-vid. Can you help me out pls? Yes - I wanna see that one, it's the only one from your list (and possibly in the whole wide world) I haven't seen yet. Merci!
Scream is my all time favorite film. I can't expect everyone to feel that way about it. However, it's nice to see it ranked as the number 1 horror film of the 90s. It definitely revitalized the genre.
It is like the equivalent to the breakfast club for the 90s even though it was a horror movie, not even the close to the scariest horror movie, but the movie was much more than that..... one of my favorite movies ever, I was 14 or 15 when it came out, perfect age
I know what you did last summer would be better if Julie died and Helen would survived cause helen run those whole ass miles running from the killer while julie screams all the time 💀
I honestly wanted the killer to be one of the main cast, instead of the backstory they created, The whodunit element in scream was a huge part of it, but I still loved the movie at the time
@Jeremy’s Iron. Yeah the 90’s was a very chilled decade, (that’s if you didn’t live in Eastern Europe or Ireland where 90’s was anything but chill) though I wasn’t around long enough, as I was born in 96. But the late 90’s and early 00’s was a time I wished I was teenager, just a simpler time.
@@nu-metalfan2654 yeah I was born in 82 so I was 7 when the 90s started in 18 when it ended... so that whole decade with me growing up, I wouldn’t trade it for any other time period
@@jeremysiron9622 The 90’s in the US and the 90’s where I’m from in Britain were a bit different, both were very chilled because the 90’s was a very chilled decade. I would probably say music and movies was the biggest difference between US and Britain in the 90’s. Trainspotting from 96 almost perfectly sums up what the 90’s was like Britain, a lot of people stuck in the 80’s and didn’t know what to do. Where I think The Craft perfectly summed up the 90’s in the US. But I could imagine Grunge changed everything over in the US in the 90’s, and Tarantino with his movies as well. As I said everyone I think was stuck in the 80’s a bit in the 90’s over here in the UK, the second biggest 90’s music movement over here in the UK was Rave but that was an underground youth movement, that was really as 90’s as it got over here in the UK I think. 97 to 03 is really the era I wished I was a teenager. I think 90 to 96 over here in the UK was a more chilled and less vibrant version of the 80’s. Where I think 97 to 03 over here in the UK was more like what the 90’s was in the US. As someone from the UK I hate British music and culture, I feel more American than British at times. The only things I like about being British is our love and obsession with Football (or as the yanks call it Soccer), and us Brits love to curse and swear, it’s almost like our actual first language.
I’m actually one of the few people who prefer I Know What You Did Last Summer over Scream, lol. It’s my first horror movie so it holds a special place in my heart, that’s probably why. Oh, and SMG’s portrayal of Helen, who 100% should’ve been the final girl instead of Julie, so I totally agree. I also agree with your ranking of Urban Legend (I find it kind of underrated, tbh) and your points about Valentine. Surprised you put H2O that low though!
I don't know .. I like "Copycat" (1995). Nobody ever mentions it but it's really good! Really up there with Scream in my opinion. It's not about teens though.
Scream is my favorite movie of all time! It has comedy, horror, AND has a surprise factor! I mean, back in the 90s, no one would have thought about 2 killers so that came as a complete shock! Scream basically gave a fictional story that also acts as a cautionary tale!
Two killers isn't new. The thing that's fresh about the Scream series is that it's comedically self aware, hypes up the fun factor, unabashedly gives love to horror films and tropes, and simply treats horror fans as smart, cool nerds that are completely in on it.
@@LA_HA 2 killers isn’t new NOWADAYS, but back in the 90s, no one would have even thought for a second that there was 2 killers. They only thought that there could only be 1. That was snack in the 90s though. Now 2 killers are common.
@@ghostface9702 No, I get that and you're right. But, in some older films, especially those that were based on real life people and events, there were two or more perpetrators. They weren't all necessarily horror films, per se. Some were, but usually they were: - docudramas (Hitchcock's Rope, for example, with two killers) -- which I recommend as a reaction BTW - teenagers as bad boys and girls (kinda social warning pieces, like J'accuse or even Kitten With A Whip) - teens as monsters (I Was A Teenage Werewolf, Mummy, or whatever), and - films where teen angst was taken to deadly ends, showing the consequences of being in gangs, deadly duos and trios, and similar themes but all with a crazed leader (A Clockwork Orange, is a good example) As awesome as Scream is, it's rooted in cinema history that's older than Halloween, which is considered the OG of the Slasher subgenre; but likewise, didn't simply appear out of thin air. That's all I was trying to say. But, yeah, I get your point, too; and you're right.
@@ghostface9702 Cool. But, hey, if you're into it, I'd definitely recommend Hitchcock's Rope to you. It's amazing and...based on a true crime incident though the real killers were children. The 50s and 60s have some crazy movies with the themes I was talking about, but they weren't all A-movies. In fact, for a good laugh, Mystery Science Theater 3000 used a lot of them to make fun of. The MST3K versions are very worthwhile. haha
Scream undoubtedly ranks number one for me. Definitely my favorite movie of all time! H20 is also one of my favorites, probably because I am such a Scream fan. Love how badass Laurie is.
I enjoyed the Craft, but it isn’t totally original. I bet the person who wrote it watched the TV movie Midnight Offerings (1981) fifteen years or so before.
This list is generally spot on except there is no way that Valentine and Urban Legend would rank higher than I Know What you Did Last Summer but loved that Faculty was ranked so high.
Man, 90's horror was my jam! I've always said The Faculty and Urban Legend would make great tv series. Expand on the mythology, bcuz there's a lot you can do with those properties.
I love Disturbing Behavior. The film got taken away from the director, David Nutter, and a lot of scenes were cut by the studio which is why the runtime is so short. It’s amazing it still makes sense. The original runtime was about 110 minutes or so. Really hope a directors cut is released one day
Personally glad you gave The Faculty such a high regard! It's completely underrated! Also happy to see Disturbing Behavior on the list. I'm saddened it wasn't more well known!
There is literally not a single movie better than Scream in my opinion. I love it to a point where it is too much. Even got a ghostface tattoo. Also Urban legends is amazing. Originally I watched it because Jared Leto is in it but fell in love with the movie itself.
Disturbing behavior was definitely underrated, Nick Stahl was great in that....I’ve always hoped he would get a career come back, because he had mad talent just got derailed by drugs
@@jeremysiron9622 i know I feel like no one talks about disturbing behavior. Hes good. I didn't know he got messed up with drugs. I think the last thing I saw him in was Terminator 3
@@jeremysiron9622 the remake was some woke in your face feminist bs I was not down for, same thing thing they did with black Christmas remake. No characters development either.
@@tamararhymeswithcamera6539 Ex-kee-USE you, whatchoo mean H2O ain't respectable? Haha. Halloween uber fan here, who Loves #7, so I had to kid you a little bit.
To be honest I thought I'd remember loving a lot of these movies on his list. Turns out Scream and The Faculty are the only 2 I go back and watch regularly.
The fact that The Faculty is so high on your list makes me so happy! It was the first rated R film I ever owned. I'm also like you, because I too like I Still Know What You Did Last Summer more than the original. That ending still gives me chills.
Another great list homie as always. I was not surprised by your no1 which is most people's favorite. My top ten. 1. Scream 2. The craft 3. Urban legend 4. The faculty 5. Scream 2 6. Disturbing behavior 7. Valentine 8. Halloween h20 9. I know what you did last summer. 10. Scream 3
Seeing Urban Legend as a middle school aged kid really disturbed me for a while. Multiple kills in the movie stuck with me in a way that kept me scared after it was over. Watching it now that feels a bit silly but I appreciate it for doing an effective job at the time!
Great vid! Love 90’s teen horror. Disappointed final destination wasn’t on and surprised to see the craft. Not sure if they fit the criteria but also thought about jeepers creepers and joy ride
Yes!!! I have said Helen should have been the main character in IKWYDLS for years I’m so happy someone agrees. Sarah Michelle gellar could have carried the films in a better direction
I love how much you love Scream 2, for me it's on par with the first one and that ghostface reveal is still the best, and the first with the mask on/off. Another great video Zack, pretty much agree with everything on this list.
I actually really love Valentine. I remember seeing it in the cinema. Inventive kills, a classic premise and an amazing soundtrack (if you’re a metalhead, if not, you’ll hate it 🤣) I’d completely forgotten about The Craft!. Was my ex girlfriends favourite movie when I was at college. That girl broke my heart, that’s probably why I’d blocked that movie from my mind 🤣
Love this video! Honestly these movies truly do have such a different vibe to them. Most horror movies these days rely so much on flashiness, jumpscares, and overt gore. Not that that's always the worst but sometimes I miss the actual teeny bopper drama in horror lol. Hopefully you'll be able to rank 2000s teen horror one day ❤
I couldn't asked for a better selection !! You've knocked it out of the park with these movies .. they are all my favorites LOL ! .. Amazing job on this video !!
scream is my favourite as well. I love your videos so much and I absolutely love horror movies. Thank you for making videos and keep up the good work x
Definitely agree with the #1 spot for Scream. Craven was able to seamlessly add comedy & meta dialogue to a serious slasher movie. To this day, sooo many movies take a page from Scream. It's also nice to see that we're still getting Scream movies, now with the 5th being filmed.
Wow, just discovered your channel and it is PERFECT!!! I absolutely loved your analysis and ranking of all the films. I happened to agree with all of your opinions and this was so special for me as I love rewatching these horror films quite often (especially the Scream movies and I love Halloween H20). I really enjoy old timey horror films in particular Halloween and Nightmare on Elm Street. I just subscribed and gave it a like, now I MUST go binge watch more of your videos. Thank you.💕
I will _always_ say that Helen should’ve lived and Ray should’ve died in _”I Know What You Did Last Summer”. Then, in the sequel, Karla is still brought into film along with everyone else. I would’ve _loved_ to have seen Sarah Michelle Gellar, Brandy, & Jennifer Love Hewitt running around the island while everyone else is dying off around them. Yes, please!
I know what you did last summer ends right after SMG is killed off in my opinion. Killer gets away for part 2. It was my very first horror movie and I have loved it since first watch.
How can be I know What Did behind I Still Know, Scream 3, Disturbing Behaviour, Halloween H20, Valentine, Urban Legends and The Faculty? It should be at the 3rd place after Scream and Scream 2
I only saw soul survivors cuz eliza Dushku and didn't get it. I loved the rage Carrie 2. Recently saw valentine again and it didn't age well. The craft is one of my personal favorites and is great through and through. Scream will always be number one
I agree with this list on so many levels! Thank you for amazing content. The only thing I would have added, somewhere on the list, is Wes Craven's New Nightmare. Love a Heather Langenkamp return, and the movie's concept was ahead of it's time.
Great video! ❤️ From france 😂 i dont saw all the movies but here is my personnal top : 1) Scream 😱 2) Scream 2 3) Scream 3 4) Urban Legend 5) Bride of Chucky 6) Valentine 7) I know what you did 8) I still know what you did 9) Urban legend 2 I love making top 😱😂 My god tey are all slashers!
Scream was definitely innovative and a legendary film to come out from the 90s...but Halloween H20 and I know what you did last summer take the trophy for me!
I watched The Faculty for the first time last year and, while I liked it a lot, I feel like you would enjoy it way more if I had watched it back in the 90s or 00's.
I saw The Rage: Carrie 2 in theaters. When I described it to a friend, she thought it was ridiculous that heads were being severed off by flying CDs! In hindsight, it is silly, but it was still rather gory for a film that wasn't about gore.
@@bradywest3116 For real I wonder if someone seeing it for the first time today could have the same appreciation as someone who saw it when it came out when it did, it would be hard to really feel our original the movie is....There was nothing like it at the time
Scream 1 and 2 would be my two favorites for sure. I do think that The Faculty is still super underrated. I tried to watch it a couple months back and couldn’t find it streaming anywhere which is a bummer.
Good list dude! Love the faculty! I would re-deranged them a bit to my liking, but it’s your list. Respect! The only one I would put a lot lower is valentine and bring I know what you did last summer higher.
