The only bad thing about Heavyweight is that Jones is cheerypicking an old Stipe, force him to fight Aspinal. Legends get hard retirement fights, Jones shouldnt be an exception.
Jones is gonna hold up the division until his next fight, he should vacate the belt and come back against Aspinall if he really thinks he's the best heavyweight in the world.
So with your logic someone like Kobe would deserve the same retirement final game/season and someone like paul pierce? Just because someone’s an elite mma fighter for a term doesn’t solidify them as elite like Jon was. Same case as Kobe and pierce. It just doesn’t make sense why would you want a highlight fighter of the sport to have a lackluster send off?
I just hope that some young talend comes to the lightheavyweight division because in four years the only one still being active from the top five will be Jiri( if even him)
Lightweight is the only division not interesting to me at the moment. Purely because I dont see anyone outside of the top 5 beating Makachev, Gaethje, Olivieria or Poirier. They are rock solid in their skill level that I dont think anyone else in the division can get the job done. And that makes the division stale when the interesting match ups are done besides Makachev Gaethje...even then it might be similar to the Khabib fight....
Grant Dawson is still a future prospect in my book, it will take him awhile before he reaches the top of 155 again.Saint Denis looks good, Arman & Jalin Turner are still very young they could be champions. The problem with 155 is Michael Chandler, Justin Gaethje and Dustin Poirier are pretty one dimensional and have no way of beating Islam Makhachev. Lightweight has the best talent but they’re currently not in top 5, those spots are being hogged by out dated one dimensional strikers who would lose to the new prospects.
Saying Gane doesn’t move like any other HW is only true because he doesn’t move like Tom Aspinall cuz let’s be real Gane moves better than any other HW but Aspinall is bigger than him and still moves better, he’s just in a league of his own in that regard imo
How is Tom Aspinall bigger than Cyril Gane? They are both 6'5 and about the same weight, but Cyril Gane is pure muscles. Visually he didn't even look smaller than Francis Ngannou
@@George18798 Gane literally weighed in more than 10 pounds lighter than Tom in their last fights, why are you typing to me. do some research before you make claims.
Aspinal is crazy fast for his size. and also gane has the reach advantages and great chin, aspinal's chin didn't get tested yet but his striking defense is crazy
@@Karsjk No, they’re not. You can argue that Aspinall and Pavlovich are faster and more athletic than the likes of JDS, Overeem, Werdum and Stipe but when it comes to overall skill and well-roundedness, they don’t compare. Volkov and Almeida are good but one dimensional. Don’t even get me started on the likes of Spivak, Derrick Lewis and Tai Tuivasa
@@99b74 the conversation is about how STACKED the division is now compared to the past, not about how much better one great fighter currently in his prime is compared to the previous generation
I feel like the women's weight classes are quite underrated too. Obviously not women's bantamweight, but womens flyweight actually has a lot of new contenders and the title picture right now is very intriguing. Alexa Grasso and Shevchanko have an amazing rivalry, theres Erin Blanchfield in the title picture, Manon Fiorot, Taila Santos is there as well Womens Strawweight is also amazing right now. Zhang seems like an unstoppable champion similar to Volk. But theres all these contenders like Yan Xiaonan, Tatiana Suarez, Jessica Andrade, the list can go on. And Virna Jandiroba, Amanda Ribas, Tracy Cortez and Loopy Godinez are intriguing prospects as well
If they would defend their ranking more than fine but I agree. Justin defended his ranking once but Poirier especially after a KO loss needs to drop in the rankings or defend his rank
@@rougeclips9438featherweight its worse theres only 4 people in featherweight rn. volk, max, yair and topuria thats it. brian ortega is ranked 3 for fuck sake
Personally I haven’t bought into the Jailton hype he seems pretty one dimensional. After his w over Lewis he called out another striker in Ciryl lol that’d be 3 strikers in a row for him hopefully the Blaydes fight gets put back together
Heavyweight needs more fighters. LHW needs more volume as well. Those divisions do uave talent but Id love to see talent pools similar to light weight. I know light weight is the UFC's premier division but they need more bouts in others that ratchet up the cards with heavy hits.
@@Realivangarcia It has Leon, Shavkat, Belal. Kamaru seems to be moving to 185. Khamzat is out. Wonderboy is washed. Gilbert Burns is okay. Who else? Neal? Magny? C'mon/
heavyweight was always built off of fat heavyweights. stipe and DC dominating most, now we have the best heavyweights we’ve ever had. Aspinall beast any heavyweight to exist unfortunately
@@hoppero-mma " Aspinall beast any heavyweight to exist unfortunately" That's your claim. We have no good reason to believe that. And, even if it were true, that doesn't mean its the most stacked division.
Tbh, Middleweight is still in an iffy spot. The top 5 is elite, and everyone below them is either complete ass, or are interchangeable in their rankings.
I still find HW and LHW pretty weak and uninteresting. At least we now have a potential division GOAT in Tom Aspinall to fill the void left when Francis walked.
Your confusing stacked with competitiveness back during the Jones or DC era these guys wouldn’t even be top 5, that being said 205 is more exciting than ever since it’s extremely competitive.
Yes I agree with you there's about 8 fighters in tat division that could become champion on any given night I bet the belt will change hands several times within the next two years strikland izzy khamzat nickel Costa Whittaker imovav shit even vitori and cannonier are still problems hernandez looks nasty to Allen has potential and kumaru might be sticking around I here and Alex hasn't ruled out a return so definitely stacked
Ankalaev is the most overhated fighter I have ever seen. Sure he cried like a baby after the draw (i think he lost) with Jan but other than that why do ya hate him. He isnt a wet blanket fighter
Hes still pretty boring and doesn't perform well in big fights. He threw a blatant illegal knee against Walker, his split draw was an ok fight but like you said his behavior didn't help, Smith isn't elite, he did not look good against an old Santos, he didn't look good against Oezdemir, he didnt look good against Krylov. He smokes the cutelabas and Dalchas of the mma world bit he doesnt look impressive against the top 10
I dont like him because hes from dagestan and hes a muslim and he isnt even a wrestler people overhype him like hes some khabib his only asset is striking and its not even that good compared to others HE LITERALLY TAPPED TO PAUL CRAIG TRIANGLE
How is Ank lost? Even Yan said - give victory to Maga, and Walker fight was stopped by "genius" doc. Guy is a menace , but UFC just don't like him for lack of trash talk and showing off. N1 contender easily
Magomed ankalaev isnt mentioned because he isnt even that good. Hes not even a good wrestler. Show me his wrestling, all his matches is him piecing up people on the feet. He has no submissions either meaning he has not threat on ground. Just because hes from dagestan doesnt make him a good wrestler. His striking is good though
it’s because i momentarily forgot his name, that has nothing to do with my lack of knowledge i just simply forgot in the moment. people throw the term causal sm these days😂
These are exciting times for UFC fans. Was hoping the woman’s flyweight division would have gotten a mention. Grasso subbing Valentina was the first “what the actual fuck” moment we had this year, followed by Sean starching Aljo and Strickland 50-45ing Adesanya. The woman’s flyweight division is heating up for the first time with Erin and Manon lurking at the top of the division. Hell even Thug Rose has made the move up from strawweight to mix things up. I haven’t even mentioned Natlia Silva who is just an absolute monster and up and coming contender, plus there’s Talia Santos who has nasty hands… the woman’s 125 division is currently shark infested waters
The HW division isn t yet where it should be.. Gane won t ever be Champion, Volkov got smashed by Aspinall and Blaydes is the most overrated ufc fighter rn.
Light Weight has the NAMES, mostly. As a whole, it is rather sparse. Most of the household names are 34 to 37, in their very twilight time (last 1-2 years or last 1-2 major fights) in MMA: Conor, Chandler, Gamrot, Benny, Dustin, Justin, Ferguson, Hooker, Green et al. Only Islam and Charles are still in their prime, at the top spots. Fiziev and Arman are still not ready to take main stage, yet, being 26 - 28 or so. Ditto for Welterweight. Leon is probably the most lucky, because, let's be honest: he rose to the top when all of the Top 7 or so are between 34 and 40. Neither Usman, nor Colby, nor Belal (a second time), nor Burns, nor WB, nor Neal, nor Sean, nor Lugue (second time), nor Garry, nor JDM, nor Holland has that good of a chance at beating Leon. Shavkat is the single elite fighter right behind him, at 29 years of age. And of all current Top 10 or so Welterweight, Shavkat has the highest chances of beating Leon. That's just ONE out of 10. JDM still needs a year or so, or 2-3 good fights, before he's in the Top 2 or so at WW. Ditto for cringey Ian. 185 is all of a sudden very good: Bo Nickal (2-3 fights & he's in the thick of it), Robert still hanging there, only early 30s; nail painting, pearl wearing, girly Izzy still there... Khamzat, Ikram (whom Khazmat couldn't take down no matter what), now Sean the champ, DDP, even grandpa Usman who still is very powerful, despite his lack of knees or agility... mainstays like Vettori, Dolidze, Costa, Cannonier, Imavov... they are still hanging there... As things stands right now at 185, you have some of the best strikers/boxers (better known names) and some of the true wrestlers at 185 (up & comers)... Ikram, Khamzat, and Bo... these are real elite wrestlers --- with very good to elite BJJ --- who also could punch decent enough...
People said that lhw and mw were trash but I always thought they were somewhat interesting. Other than Izzy having boring fights I put it to the side for a while due to his crazy come up, had other interesting fighter that were aight, then anticipating whittakers comeback(never happened🥲). I feel like if people have a problem with mw they should have a prob with lw always the same people in title contention
Light heavyweight is trash Heavyweight is trash Middle weight is getting better Welterweight is now trash Lightweight inn2 years will be trash when islam just and dustin leave Featherweight its volk and holloway thats it
UFC has 8 divisions and almost all of them are competitive. Boxing has like 17 divisions and only a few of them are actually competitive (LW, WW, SMW etc. even HW isnt that competitive as top HWs dont really fight each other). thats why less divisions is better
Topuria is a grappler, but he fall in love with his punching power when he got in the UFC. Check he's wrestling background and he's fights before the UFC and you'll see that he is a complet fighter, but he's essentially a grappler
