@@CopRockTheMovie I was one of 5 teams of songwriters, so usually I wrote one song per episode. It was a great experience. Most people don't realize this, but all the vocals were recorded LIVE on location, no overdubs. It was extremely challenging to do it that way, but Bochco wanted to keep it real.

They are both written by Randy Newman and “When She Loved Me” definitely sounds similar to “She Chose Me” - which I didn’t realize originated here- I just knew it from his Dark Matter album. So cool to find out it came from this show and that “Sandman’s Coming” from his musical Faust originated here too.

I was too young to remember this as a kid, but I find this show oddly fascinating. Honestly I think its biggest flaw is just the fact that it takes itself too seriously for a show about singing cops, if they did it as a parody or comedy it might have worked better. Also while the music is pretty good overall, there’s a lot of cheesy 80s schlock in there that hasn’t aged particularly well (and yea I know it’s 1990 but the music still sounds super 80s.) You have to appreciate the technical achievement of the time though. They are singing live on camera (no lip syncing.)

I remember it well. I think I was the only one in my group that liked it. I thought it refreshingly different, entertaining, talented singers/music, and really funny. I guess it was way too over the heads of the average TV viewer.

The series also got a very short time im Spain, and the song were dubbed into spanish.I remember the intro song, and the lyrics said: "Y no te irás, y no te irás, te lo juro, mi amor".

I remember hearing "find my way back home" back when the show first aired and I never forgot it. I have been searching for this song for a good few years now and I still remember it word for word it's funny how óne song can song can stick in your head for ever.

Probably an impossible mission, but does anyone know of anywhere where a full track listing can be found including who wrote and who sang the songs? Like I said, I doubt it exists but some songs are clearly Randy Newman songs while others probably are not. I'm a completest with OCD and info is hard as heck to find on this series. (Wikepedia is woefully thin in the information department when it comes to cop Rock) Amazing that people hated this series so much , yet now are making big stars out of car alarms like Migos...

Oh my god I am in heaven. I'm obsessed with the show and a few years ago personally uploaded about 50 of the 56-ish total songs in the show and made a playlist. But mine were based on the episodes available on youtube at the time with decent audio, but it was still wanting. I didn't quite know that actually, until I just heard this. My kids were born only a year and a half before we shot my episodes. I had just done 5 or 6 consecutive days on General Hospital and NOW??? I was gonna be on a Steven Bochco production and everyone knows that his shows are for the ages. Except for THIS Bochco, he did it for his wife who wanted to star in a musical. Steven had the hit cop drama on network at the time with Hill Street Blues and finally, the weekly network situation musical was working with FAME. Why not combine the two?? Better question....WHY???

Search for Steven Bochco/Mike Post on Cop Rock (two separate interview clips done by FoundationINTERVIEWS RU-vid channel). Quite interesting how it came together. I think overall Mike was financially sound with his simple "DON'T" admonition to Steven, but part of me is glad that he didn't listen, because we have awesome music like this in the annals of TV history!
