Of course it is. We've been brainwashed into passively accepting that this is the best system there is and that we can't do better than this. The fundamentals are just acccepted without question. Anything outside of neoliberalism is ignored, derided or ridiculed... We are taught to compete against each other and encouraged to struggle and fight against each other, in an endless blame game of "us and them". Meanwhile, the real source of the problem, the wealthy people at the top, who own and run everything, just sit back, watch us all competing and fighting and blaming each other... they just sit back, taking an ever greater piece of the pie, raking it in! There are multi billionaires ffs! Yet people are starving! What's more, we're taught to respect and admire such people. Too see them as something to aspire to. The classic example being the lie of the "American Dream. Lauding the tiny numbers who are the exception to the rule and whispering in your ear, 'look, this could be you if you just toe the line and play the game". In reality the US has by far the worst level of poverty AND the lowest social mobility, in the developed world! Just keep being blinded by the "American Dream"!

I agree with a lot of what you're saying here. From the beginning, our nation was founded on principles that favored the wealthy. Only white male PROPERTY OWNERS were given the vote. Yeah, now we're all allowed the vote, but who gets to choose who we get to vote for? Money. I think all we can do in our individual lives is to try to be good to each other. I think there's a revolution coming eventually. Hopefully it can come from a shift in consciousness and not violence

I agree with you. Ren puts people in a position to question their lives, and people try to rationalize. At the same time when ren makes comments about something critically we tend to think he’s making a totalizing statement. Hes probably more balanced in conversation than if he’s making a statement in a song. Money is just a physical representation of value itself as a standardized unit so we can organize trade. Currency is a way of simplifying that complex system of goods and services. The problem is human beings and our inability to be truly satisfied. Especially when we’re trying to put a square peg in a round hole. We’re trying to meet psychological needs met by connection and purpose, with having things. It’s never enough.

I really don't think that's what people are doing at all in saying that money isn't the problem, but that love for money (greed) is. First because it's a quote from the Bible: 'love of money' not 'money' . Secondly, money is a thing, a tool. No thing, specifically no tool is inherently evil. It's how we use it, our attitude toward it. There is no escaping the need for money in modern society. Some are made slaves just in order to survive. Others make slaves of themselves in their greed. Renegades understand the inherent hypocrisy involved in just trying to make sense of it. It's not cognitive dissonance. I don't know where you're coming from with this criticism, but it's misplaced

People who are dissatisfied with our current economic system are going to latch on to Ren’s criticism and see pushback as “cognitive dissonance” or denial. (Which makes complete sense.) People who so easily dismiss the criticisms of capitalism are foolish . On the other hand, I find people who dismiss the concept of money itself a bit detached. A lot of people who don’t like capitalism or resent our monetary system base their economic philosophy on what shouldn’t be. Whilst very little criticism is applied on their part for the replacements suggested for capitalism. Currency is an amazing technology. Standardizing things like time and value in terms of units which can be applied evenly across a broad spectrum of situations has helped humanity to such a great degree that it’s hard to fathom. The issue was never money but the relationship human beings have to each other and the inherent fallibility of our nature. Like you said. To blame the tool is unnecessary, and the implications made by the OP are misplaced. Yet I understand why people blame the tool, and I understand where the OP is coming from. I know your comment wasn’t to me but I appreciate what you said. Sorry if it sounds like I’m trying to teach. I assume you might already feel this way.
