Nice summary - and I always thought this bizarrely might be the strongest console to play Sonic games on. Allmost all the classics, the adventure games, and Riders as a surprisingly strong spin off. Hope you enjoyed checking them out!

Great compilation video! And I really enjoyed the ending too. You can see the evolution of visuals for the characters and environments as the series progressed throughout the GameCube generation. Sonic will always have a place in gamer’s hearts ✊🏽

I remember when I first got my GameCube, the local future shop had this demo disk that had like 6/7 demo games on it, and sonic DX was one of them and I kept playing that one over and over. I was super obsessed

I love Sonic the Hedgehog and I haven’t played a lot of the GameCube Sonic’s but the ones I played were okay to not so good except Mega Collection which was awesome. Probably my favorite Sonic games are Sonic 2, CD, and Mania, but it’s no deny that I loved Sonic when I was a Kid and still do to this day. Awesome Episode as always GameCube Galaxy.
That’s fair if you weren’t a fan of the 3D Sonic games, as the 2D ones are classics without question! Sonic 2 and Sonic & Knuckles were my favorite on the Genesis/MD. Sonic is such an integral part of gaming history, and I’m glad to see how relevant he is all these years later. Glad you enjoyed the episode man!!

Thank you man! Yes, Sonic Adventure DX: Director's Cut really had a ton of content! They did an HD remaster of this on the PS3/360, but it's completely missing the 12 Game Gear Sonic games on those, hence why this is still the best version of the game. Glad you enjoyed the video!
By far one of my favorite videos you’ve created! I’m Segablocks, of course I’m gonna be all about it! So many great ports, compilations and original concepts that made its way to the GameCube After Sega’s inevitable leave from the console business. The Sonic Gems collection was such an amazing additions to the GameCube library simply because it allowed us here in the west to play Sonic the fighters for the first time (for most of us). Such a great collection! Sonic R really does feel a bit like Diddy Kong racing. The exploration/ collect-a-thon parts feel right out of the DKR formula! Sonic Riders is similar to Streak on the PS1. If you haven’t played that game, I recommend looking into it. Though it’s not perfect, there’s so much fun to be had with it. Such a great list of games from our speedy little friend that made their way into the GameCube. Even though it pains me to this day to know my lifelong Sega love left the console wars, Even I have to admit Nintendo did a great job welcoming them as a 3rd party with the red carpet! Excellent video brother! I really enjoyed this!
Wow, thank you man! Definitely a ton of love for Sonic on the GameCube, and truly a beast of a platform to experience a ton of games from the series! Sonic Gems Collection really was awesome in which we got to play lesser available Sonic games, and they were the more "rare" ones to come across. Sonic R had great ideas, and really became a game I appreciated more as I grew older. I forgot to mention in the video that the framerate was increased to a stable 30fps for Sonic R in this version, versus the Saturn version being a bit lower (although still a showpiece for the Saturn hardware). Dude, I forgot about Streak! I installed it on my Polymega and need to still try it! That's the thing, while it was tough for Sega fans to witness the fall of Sega in the hardware business, it was amazing how natural the transition of Sonic games coming to Nintendo hardware first felt. Seeing even the Chao Garden mechanics utilize the GBA instead of the Dreamcast's VMU showed that Sega and Sonic Team still had this ambition to do unique ideas after the Dreamcast's end. I am actually quite taken aback that the graphics of Sonic adventure battle looks so good. It would seem that the Dreamcast was indeed a very capable machine. However, since I was a kid, I knew and saw more of Mario than Sonic. Hopefully, with the new sonic 2 movie coming out and the open world sonic game in the works, the Blue Blur can gain more mindshare amidst the newer generation. Wonderful compilation of sonic gameplay footages here man. Enjoyed watching it. 🙏 P.S. I think Shadow of the hedgehog is a bit too much. Trying too hard to be edgy IMHO.
Sonic Adventure 2: Battle is a game that was really impressive visually for the Dreamcast, and cleaned up even nicer for the GameCube version. The Dreamcast was definitely capable, and it’s a shame Sega closed the door on the console industry from that point. That’s a great point about the movie and new game garnering a newer generation of fans. Hopefully they come across this video for more Sonic history 😊. As for Shadow the Hedgehog, it did try a bit hard on the “edgy” aspect, but I really enjoyed the game for being different in that regard too lol. I remember being shocked at Shadow saying “damn” when he’d get hit lol. Glad you enjoyed the video man!!
Really informative and thorough video! I didn't know there were so many Sonic games released on the GC! I think the 2 Sonic collections games are the better ones as it brought a ton of older games to a more modern platform (well back then at least)! I would really like your take on the differences between ports from a Sega console to the GC like Skies of Arcadia! It would be awesome to see what was changed for it and why it's so expensive (even before the GC market exploded)! Great video and keep up the good work!

I loved playing as knuckles in every sonic game you could. Tails was cool too but it was just a change up from the regular sonic that probably kept me playing as it was just different.
Knuckles was always a cool character. I usually enjoyed the cast of characters introduced in the Sonic games that brought new gameplay mechanics to the series. Thanks for checking out the video man!
Oh hell, I forgot to talk about Sonic! I've actually only played one of these games, believe it or not. I had to sell most of my video game collection off back in 2010 when I was out of work for near a year, and 95% of my GameCube titles went out the door. So when I started building my GC collection back up again a couple years ago, the first one I picked up was Sonic Mega Collection. At the time, I didn't plan on going back to buying anything for the Genesis, so getting all of those incredible 16-bit titles in one spot on my favorite console made sense. I found a copy on eBay for a great price, and the copy I got was pristine - and came with a paper of handwritten notes about the games on where to look for chaos emeralds and the like. That purchase led to me reconsidering not buying more stuff for the Genesis, which today is now my biggest retro collection. :) Thanks for that trip down memory lane.

I’m sorry to hear you went through that tough time and made the difficult decision of selling off your GC library, but I find it amazing that when you repurchased Sonic Mega Collection, it led to your collecting journey for the Genesis (an excellent system that I grew up with). Sonic Heroes has one of my favorite theme songs in all of gaming. But then again as good or bad as Sonic games get, their soundtracks are always great.

Fair points on all the Sonic games. I really enjoyed all the 3D games that came out on the console. Something missed here is that Sonic DX, 2 Battle, Hero's and Shadow, all allowed you to listen to their soundtracks for each character. Note about hero's; the game uses each team to set a difficulty. Sonic team is medium, Amy is easy, Shadow is hard and then Chaotix was challenges which I thought was a clever way of doing things for the game. Would be great if all these could get some kind of Switch port in the future. Great video!
Very true about the soundtrack listening options in the games listed! I used to use that feature all the time until I could get my hands on the music itself to put on my iPod back in the day lol. I actually never realized the teams in Sonic Heroes were difficulty-based, thanks for sharing that! The Team Chaotix segments were a good way to change up the gameplay from the other teams, that is true. I would love to see all these get a Switch collection! Sad news but Heroes never got a port due to the engine its running on, the engine was bought and eventually killed by EA so the only way to bring Heroes back is for them to remake the game on a new engine
People who don’t like Big the Cat’s stages are the people who don’t know that all you had to do was hold the C stick down and you catch Froggy the first time guaranteed. Big’s story can be finished in 10 minutes if you know what to do

I actually downloaded all of these to my USB and played it off of Nintendont on my Wii and you can force progressive scan and widescreen. Sonic The Hedgehog is one of my favorite series. Also I am getting a Hyperkin Wii HDMI adapter and a MClassic for my birthday because I think my Wii and GameCube games will look stellar and I think the MClassic really make these games look like HD remasters.

Awesome video! I love sonic so much and the GameCube titles are really amazing, not personally my favorites but still solid games! Sonic heroes I think is my favorite and gems collection as well, I love CD for Amy’s introduction and R is amazing too. I love the difficulty in heroes and I adore that they made Amy control good unlike adventure. Unfortunately she’s not written the best but i don’t care no matter how they right Amy wether good or bad she’ll always be my favorite, and ummm Sonics favorite too if you know what I mean! And yeah spinball is definitely hated and I kinda agree with it, but the soundtrack is fantastic as all sonic games are, well most, I’m looking at you Sonic chronicles on Ds. I do personally think the adventure games are slightly and I say slightly over rated, I think they’re just over hyped with nostalgia but I’m not saying their bad, they are fantastic games especially adventure 2 speed acts. I do wish Amy had a better role in SA2 and that she was playable but we can’t always win unfortunately especially as a Amy rose fan but Sonamy fans do win so there’s that. I love mega collection and riders is great but unfortunately I haven’t experienced shadow yet since it’s hard to find a good condition one that’s not pricey. Oh btw I thought gems had a latter release on ps2 in North America as well but I might be wrong. Anyways sorry this is such a long comment but I loved the video and just wanted to share my thoughts. Sonic Chronicles did have an atrocious soundtrack, but I did hear due to budget, this was the area with the least focus (clearly lol). Shadow is a game that I feel is much more enjoyable than critics made it out to be (I actually just released my in-depth review for it on the channel)! It isn't without its issues, but there's fun to be had with it for sure. Sonic Gems Collection did stay exclusive in North America on the GameCube, but did get a PS2 port in Europe and Japan I believe. Thanks again for checking out the video!!
I love Sonic Adventure on the Dreamcast, so I look forward to playing the sequel on the GameCube. I think I have the sonic mega-collection, I must play that. I like the look of the games on there. Plus I grew up with sonic 2. And I have played Sonic Spinball. Oh nice, Metalsonic is in the DX version? I enjoyed Sonic Team, that game was great. I like the team aspect of it. But it did have its problems. Shadow the hedgehog looks cool. And finally sonic riders, I have that game in my collection, I must try it. Thank you for the awesome video GCG.

This is great, and mostly because I feel like this is a good entry point to more Sonic games for me, besides Sonic 1, 2 and 3 (& Knuckles). I've been putting off the Adventure games, and maybe I get those two on GameCube, seeing that the first one also has unlockable games. Looking forward to more Sonic games overall before the film.

I too really liked Sonic Pinball. Sonic is/was/always will be top notch and one of the greatest franchises ever. I’m still a big fan of Tails though…when given the choice with coop Sonic games I pick tails. Great video my friend!

It is beyond criminal that Sonic Heroes, Sonic Riders, and Shadow the Hedgehog (2005) have not been rereleased at all on current Gaming consoles since their 2000s releases (not even as digital og Xbox purchases on the Xbox 360 Marketplace that could be played through backwards compatibility on Xbox One and Series S/X consoles). These three games really are stuck on the GameCube, PlayStation, and original Xbox (with only Heroes and Riders being the two games available on PC). I love Sonic Heroes and Riders, and would love to play them with 4K or 1080p visuals at 60 frames per second on my Xbox Series X like I do with Sonic Generations and Sonic Unleashed (even if Shadow the Hedgehog 2005 isn't my favorite Sonic game, I'd still play it on my Series X); guess I'll stick with my GameCube versions. Gaming Preservation really needs to be discussed in detail on more videos because it is a joke that so many games are stuck on their respective consoles (licensed games in particular will never be rereleased or made backwards compatible at all), and the original copies of some of these games are going for ludicrous prices online (GameCube especially).
While Sonic Heroes I wasn’t a fan of, Sonic Riders and Shadow the Hedgehog are a ton of fun (I know I’m in the minority about enjoying Shadow the Hedgehog lol). It would be awesome to see these games get a remaster treatment though. Would love to play these on the Switch. I also agree that gaming preservation is such an important aspect in gaming. It is indeed from the game’s cutscenes itself! Thanks to the EON GCHD and mClassic adapter I have plugged into the GameCube, I’m able to capture optimal resolution for the console 👍.
I actually really like Sonic R. It just clicked with me a lot. It was fun. I wouldn’t even call the soundtrack so bad it’s good. It’s just cheesy in the best way that’s endearing.
Sonic R is definitely a guilty pleasure for me. When I first played it on PC so many years ago, it was definitely not what I was expecting lol. Revisiting it more recently though, I actually really appreciated the game far more 👍. Thanks for checking out the video man!
I did have a sonic game on the gamecube, it was an open world type game... for the life of me I couldn't remember the name of it as it has been around 15 years ago
I honestly never played any of the Sonic Gamecube Games since I didn't have the System at a Time and I can't decide if the Mega and Gem Collection are better in the Gamecube or PS2,while I'm missing a Few Things to the Gamecube I do have Sonic Adventure DX,Sonic Adventure 2 Battle,and Sonic Heroes so once I do I will Play Those Games in a Heartbeat.

You know I’ve gotta admit, there two things I’ve noticed a lot about sonic adventure dx director’s cut for the GameCube is that sonic adventure dx is a game that hasn’t aged well the way most other games do and that you know there’s more to the story which I’m not really into which the experience of this game kind of begins to fall apart
I actually just realized! Combine this and the GBA games played from the Game Boy Player and it's pretty much the best 6th gen console for Sonic for the amount of playable Sonic games alone! Plus take into account that most of the Sonic games have progressive scan (Minus Mega Collection) and most of the Sonic games are good to use MClassic with! Only stinky part though, is Mega Collection and the Game Gear games in SADX not including save states and those games (Minus Sonic 3 and Sonic 3 & Knuckles) can be tough for a casual or inexperienced gamer and not everyone has solid time to beat those games. Save states were added to Mega Collection Plus, but sadly that's not on GameCube. Only PS2, Xbox and PC. Maybe if they did release Plus on GameCube, they could offer a discount for owners who own the original release and have unlocked games and Sonic 3 and 3&K progress from the OG collection's save file transfer into the new one similar how PS5/Xbox Series ports of PS4/Xbox One games letting you transfer your saves so your progress, trophies/achievements, unlockable and such migrate to the newer hardware.
For sure! The GameCube for me was the best new home for the Sonic franchise. The plethora of games available to play on the console (even combining the GB Player functionality) really makes a one-stop shop in a way. Thanks for checking out the video!
@@GameCubeGalaxy Yeah! Most of the newer releases came out on the GameCube at the time even after the series gone to PlayStation and Xbox, there is still Nintendo versions! I know with the 7th Gen systems Sonic games are either only on Wii or the HD systems, Xbox 360 and PS3. You gotta own at least both Wii and Xbox 360 to get all the major Sonic games at the time. The Storybook games on Wii and the Wii port of Unleashed are just their to scratch the itch for Sonic fans. Only Sonic games that isn't a spin-off, Olympics crossover with Mario or port of games that are different than the flagship versions is Colors. Then you get to the Wii U era where and Sonic Lost World (At least until it came to Steam years later. Hope it comes to PS4/5, Xbox One/Series and Switch someday cause' I enjoy it when I was younger on Wii U) is pretty much the only mainline Sonic game as Racing Transformed, Boom Rise of Lyric and the Olympic games are spin-offs. Wasn't until Switch where Nintendo players get what PlayStation and Xbox players will get. Outside of obvious frame rate, resolution and graphical changes (Minus Mania and Origins which are most if not, the same!), they are pretty much the same as everywhere else (Unlike Unleashed).
Still I wouldn't have minded Sonic Shuffle getting an enhanced version that fixed problems with the Dreamcast version in addition to the 7 we got or a lower version of 06 with 2 Discs & Chao Gardens at some point in 2007 as a final sendoff that promoted the Wii.

You will need to obtain emblems completing missions within the game to unlock the Game Gear games. Unfortunately there is no save states for these games. Hope that helps, and thanks for checking out the video!
You made a few mistakes in your video, Japan got Adventure 2 Battle & Sonic Advance December 2001, although I'm glad you said the Stateside release date. Sega Dreamcast was 6th Gen & Japan got Sonic Adventure at the end of 1998. Adventure DX was partially meant to celebrate the 5th Anniversary of Sonic Adventure. Sonic the Fighters did appear in Arcades Stateside as Sonic Championship, although even then it was a rare find. Knuckles Chaotix & Sonic Eraser were also planned for Sonic Gems Collection. As for the Gamegear games you couldn't use SaveStates in Adventure DX, while you could in them for Gems Collection.
