IT was the first Stephen King book I ever read and pulled me back into being a heavy reader after not picking up a book (for entertainment) in a while. The character work is out of this world and right after I finished I immediately started to binge his other works. Hands down my favorite King novel.

@@otherworldsthanthese they are saying around that maybe you are that "Adam Medvidović" that wrote that "Night in Zagreb" that is raising a lot of dust - its like novel that is actually revealing whats gonna happen. It is known that "Adam Medvidović" is a pen name, but actuall writer is unknown. Wanted to ask you is it true? You are a genius for writing that and a man with the balls. If it is you.

I am so impressed that you read all SK novels. The book Rage was written at a very different time. There were no school shootings that I know of in the 70’s and it was a powerful book for it’s time. Sadly, we are in a different world. My favorites are Per Semetary, Salem’s Lot and the Shining and the Long Walk…. My least favorite was Cell. I just finished Later and really enjoyed it.

I've only Carrie, 'Salem's Lot and The Shining so far, and I'm currently on IT. I'd say my favourite is The Shining. The world-building of the Overlook is great, the horror elements are extremely discomforting, and the character work is unforgettable. I'd even go so far as to say it's the best book I've ever read, besides 1984. That's gonna be a controversial opinion😬 Seriously tho, why don't people talk about that book enough? It's just perfect!!!! Can't wait to experience the rest of King's bibliography.

I will say one of the marks of a great book which is longer is you don't realize how long it is. The first time I read The Stand was the abridged version which was still 800+ pages long. The second time was the unabridged version and I was probably even more captivated by it. It probably helped the first time reading The Stand I was in the 8th grade and the second time was just a few years ago). But The Stand is my favorite of King's (and in general, one of my favorite fiction books). You did get me to change my mind on IT though, I can't in good conscious have it quite as high as I did because of THAT scene (come on King, really?).

14:50 - Long Walk is indeed the first novel that Stephen King ever finished writing, which was in 1967 when he was a freshman in college. He actually started Rage earlier than that when he was a senior in high school but didn't finish writing it until 1971 when he found the partial manuscript it in a box in the cellar of his parents house.

@@otherworldsthanthese I think it took me by surprise when I read it. It was the first time I'd read one of his books where I could see the larger themes and issues that he was making a comment about: poverty & social class being the main one, and then the idea of the poor selling themselves for entertainment (reality TV) in order to survive and support their families. It's so close to what we see people do nowadays on reality shows and social media. I think I was still quite new to King when I read it so I hadn't expected that kind of social commentary from his work (especially a Bachman book). I know it's not everyone's favourite though 😊

First of all, I wrote a paper for my bachelor's degree about the Firestarter novel. I agree that this book is full of themes and reference that could rival Shakespeare or Dickens. Hey there! I subscribe to you and love your reviews. Also you are adorable and very insightful. I really appreciate your thoughts and reviews though I don't always agree with all. LOL I am 62, a young 62, so I was in my teens when King started with Carrie. I read a lot back then but stopped for some reason. Now I am buying all Stephen King books again. First I read Salem's Lot, one of my all time favorites. After all these years I still remembered the scenes that creeped me out the most. Then I read Billy Summers and agree it was a WOW book showing how great he still is. Then I read Mr. Mercedes and found it a bit slow at first but then the last 2/3 were amazing. I am trying to read all the books with Holly in them before reading Holly. I have 15 more I have bought. Some I will be rereading and there are newer ones I have not read yet like The Institute. I got Christine and Needful Things. Loved them back in the day and can't wait to reread them. The only thing I really disagree on is Dreamcatcher. That is one of my fave King books. Sorry for the length but would you like me to share my thoughts as I read each book and we can compare our thoughts. I already have 5 more in my Amazon cart including Pet Cemetery and The Dark Half and your fave Dreamcatcher LOL I look forward to reading more Later King like Duma Key, Bag of Bones and Lisey's Story. Great video Harry! I'm so glad you put the Dark Half so high! Its' in my top 3 books! It is so under rated. I was genuinely spooked when I read it. Also, I'm glad when I saw you put Dreamcatcher as your least favourite book as it's not just me then! I tried to read it twice and both times only got halfway through it. I will get around to it eventually! But I have way too many of his bibliography to read first. Firestarter is next on my list. Keep up the good work Harry. :)

It's amazing that your able to read and digest that much material that quickly. That said, I feel bad you read Regulators before Desperation. It still wasn't fantastic (either, really) but it had some crossover themes. I could go on about my own favorites. I Love the Dark Tower series and its threads through most his work. Shining and Dr. Sleep my favorite 2 all and all

I have only read about half of his novels so far but Dreamcatcher is my least favorite and Wizard and Glass is actually my favorite. If you look at it like a speed bump in the Dark Tower plot, I understand how you might not like it. But Roland's backstory is so tragic and it really helps you to see his character more clearly. Without the backstory there is no heart to the series. Also, I dated a woman with the last name Delgado when I was younger and it ended somewhat tragically so it made me really identify with his character more. You might find that you like it more when you are a bit older. Not meaning to sound condescending at all but I think viewing a coming of age story is more impactful when you have some gray in your whiskers and have been through real hardship. Maybe it's just me.

Great video Harry! I just finished Firestarter last night and loved it! even though I didn't love the pacing, I absolutely loved Andy and Charlie's relationship. What a heartbreaking and amazing ending. I'd probably say its on par with the shining for me Not including the Novellas Ive read Id rank them like this: 1. It (Fantastic book, almost perfect but THAT SCENE, and that shitty ending bring it down a bit) 9/10⭐ 2. Misery (A thrill ride all the way through, shows how good of a writer King is) 9/10⭐ 3.The Shining (Great book, Im very glad that it was my first) 8.5/10⭐ 4. Firestarter (didn't love the pacing, but I adore Andy and Charlie) 8.5⭐ 5. The Long Walk (Unbelievably Bleak, loved the ending, but damn King was a very horny teen lol) 8/10⭐ 6. Billy Summers (Loved the first third, felt like the next 2/3 fell off of the wagon a bit, but loved Billy's Writing) 7.5⭐ 7. Later (Didn't feel like it was anything too special, but masterful anyway) 7/10⭐ 8. Carrie (didn't love most of it, but the I loved the newspaper format, and One of the best King Endings) 6/10⭐ 9.The Colorado Kid (interesting Concept and by no means bad, but not good either) 5/10⭐ Still searching for that 10/10 book

Your ranking of Wizard and Glass is the only thing I have trouble comprehending. It had arguably the best (well, tragic, really) ending of any of his novels and read like a sweet fantasy fairy tale. Loved it so much.

I love all the standard classics….Shining, It, Pet Semetary, Stand, Salem’s…plus the newer 11/22/63, Institute, Outsider. But it’s the hidden gems that I really appreciate…Desperation, Needful Things, Tommyknockers…. I’m still only about 2/3 of the way through his body of work. Have you read them all? Haven’t really read a clunker yet

The Crow is such an interesting character, I’d love to hear your opinion of what it represents :)
@chibishoyo8416
@chibishoyo8416 2 года назад
@@otherworldsthanthese I personally think that the boy named Crow was Kafka's alter ego. There was a part in the book that says that he named himself Kafka because it translates to "crow" in another language (I can't really remember coz my memory is jumbled while reading this book 😭). Crows are associated with intelligence, braveness, and higher perspective (we can relate this to the part where the Crow repeatledly said to Kafka that he should be strong and the part where Kafka searches for the boy named Crow to answer a question). Aside from that, crows are also a totem of death which we can interpret that Kafka's past self had died when he decided to run away from home and take this new identity. I'm sorry I'm terrible at explaining things but I hope you get my point. 😂 I'd love to know your thoughts about the boy named Crow too because I think it was an interesting character to study and analyse.

I haven’t read very much Stephen King, but I love a lot of his writing. I absolutely HATED IT(probably because I read it when I was ten) but my current favorite is If It Bleeds, even though it’s short stories. I just really loved all of the character development (specifically the main story). Holly was a great character and I definitely recommend.

Suprised to see Revival so low, but I guess thats why they are subjective lists and everyones is completely different. That book shook me to my core and stuck with me for months afterwards. My absolute favourite is The Dead Zone, which is maybe the most heartbreaking book I have ever read. My least favourite is The Talisman, I literally cannot get through that one, and I usually love King's fantasy work.

This will be a long comment, heads up lol I was with you up until Roadwork lol but I COMPLETELY understand. Also, I love Revival, but I get it. Completely agree with you on Wolves of the Calla. I hated Elevation lol Wizard and Glass is so hit or miss for DT fans, I loved it. Song of Susannah is criminally underrated. Cujo has a surprisingly bad rating on GR lol. Oh lord, Tommyknockers, everyone gets one mulligan bad opinion 😂 Finders Keepers is definitely the best Bill Hodges book. You were a lot more lenient with The Stand than I was haha, I put it much lower. Love to see The Dead Zone in your top 20! WHOAAA Dark Tower 7 so low?!?! Your tastes did change! And yes, you beat me to the punch, dark tower book at 19, chef's kiss. Also, glad to see DT 2 and 3 so high. DUMA KEY is incredible! I do love how diverse your top 10 is, even though a lot of them I think are slightly overrated. Love to see the Dark Half so high up! very underrated! Misery is also my second favorite king book. And of course, Firestarter lol Great video as always, Harry! Very well done.
