The LEWITT RAY is an innovative new XLR condenser microphone that automagically balances your levels as you move further away from the mic. It's like autofocus for your audio. This is perfect for content creators and streamers who move around a lot in their seat or space and don't want to wear a lav.

Lewitt is killing it! Essentially it’s a built in compressor and noise gate, but built in so it doesn’t get the same issues as a software version.
@LEWITT-audio
@LEWITT-audio 3 месяца назад
Thanks! It operates quite differently as well without the timing artifacts associated with compressors and gates since it operates in response to distance and not level.

@@LEWITT-audio oh I'm sure! the 'issues' i was getting at specifically were latency, artifacts, pumping/breathing, being triggered by loud background noise (gate wise), etc. I figured this channel's audience wouldn't understand that as much.

5:12 That demonstration of the Aura feature was CRAZY! The responsiveness was impressive, and it didn't sound overly compressed. I always have to pay attention to how close I am to my Super 55 (dynamic mics be dynamic mics of course), but with some EQ, this would be a great answer to my constant need to gesticulate wildly 😅

You know, they could have an optional low shelf boost kick in when distance increases (or cuts when you get too close) up to a sane maximum level to keep a little bit of proximity effect emulation as you move further away or closer. I imagine they're saving that for the Ray 2.

Cool feature, but I ran tests with an audio engineer and it seemed that with AURA engaged, the bass response suffered, almost akin to having a high-pass filter at 120Hz suddenly in the circuit. Also, after engaging AURA, the mic-pre needed more gain to produce equal loudness to when AURA was not switched on

Honestly, sounds pretty outstanding! But I'm more interested in the aspect ratio of the video. Is this 4:3? Give me some scan lines and it's like I'm a kid again, haha! Great video!

This got me thinking, about a human presence sensor, since they can sort of map in 2D where in a room a person is located (even behind some objects) and they can be set up with different zones, cameras, and microphones that could be set up with automatic switching depending on where in the room the person is at the moment. Say an automatic switch from a desk mic to a lav mic as the person is in a different area, and an automatic mute if they are not present. How well it would work and for whom it may be useful for ... probably very niche, but the sensors aren't anything too expensive to start tinkering with. A sensor board with pinouts for the extra tech-savvy can be had for less than 5$ but would need more work in order to map out zones compared to pair & play options with Zigbee/Tunya/SmartLife options, and those can still be had for 20$ or less.
@SoullessSHOES
@SoullessSHOES 3 месяца назад
Would this mess with something like NVIDIA Broadcast? If not, I feel like it would be a great pairing since you wouldn't have to worry about the extra "room sounds" as you get further away at all

@LEWITT-audio This innovation is a game-changer for individuals with paralysis, like myself. My hands are completely paralyzed and lack sensation, rendering them unusable. However, now I can simply lean back a bit to mute the microphone. It's an unexpected benefit that's truly remarkable.

That sounds good, cool and awesome. I know it's a new product and as much as I want one, I got a system shock when I saw the price. (And that's not counting in consideration that you'll still need an audio interface) 😪😪😪

It looks like really, really interesting mic for sure. While the tech is very exciting I wonder how good components it's been built from? I always get a bit worried about the lifespan of equipment with fancy features as fancy features tend to mean more electronics which could die due to reasons. That is not to say that it's guaranteed to die earlier than say Aston Stealth or Shure SM7B, really depends on what's in it and quality of the work. Still, despite writing all that, if I were to get new mic now this looks like something I might get for sure. Price is actually pretty nice currently (especially when considering how audio and music equipment prices have gone up over last few years).

Aura off seems to give a richer, warmer tone, while Aura on makes it more "harsh", attuned to the mids. Or is that just me? Great tech and I can definitely see it helping make audio simpler for a lot of creators, just hearing that difference is a little surprising.
