Walking through every alley and street in Stockholm Old Town with information about each alley and street, along with a translation of what they mean. Information on how the small alleys get their name. A tourist map shows you where each alley and street is located in Old Town. You have Västerlånggatan turning into Österlånggatan which leads to the royal castle and to Stortorget (grand square) and down the narrow alleys to the water. You will learn some Swedish history and what to see when you travel to Stockholm on this walking tour.
My channel is packed with Swedish tutorials and language challenges where you can learn everything from nouns and verbs to grammar and special Swedish words. I also talk about places in Sweden and where you as a tourist can visit. I have made youtube videos for over 10 years and 10 Swedish Words started with me explaining 10 Swedish words that don't exist in English. You can also find videos about Norse Mythology, my deep-talk series Good Talk and other info about Sweden and Swedish culture.

Lol. I love how the names are so literal. This guy lived here, let’s name it after him. This street is new, let’s call it new street. Very practical. Make sense.

This was amazing - thank you for doing all that research, walking and filming! I'm a big fan of Benita Larsson's channel and she's moving to Gamla Stan soon, great to see what the area is like. One day I'll get to visit Sweden.

I'm pretty sure I've been to the cafe that appeared in Själagårdsatan (around 10:16) and it was just before closing time and we had a hot chocolate (hardcore I know 😊). But it was so relaxing sitting there late at night in the old town. One of my favourite memories which is sad I know lol, but so peaceful. I also stayed at the hostel on 'Stora Nygatan'. First time staying in a hostel but this one was really nice :) if you're not a party person this one was great because it was quite quiet (had some rules). Anyway, thanks for this video :)

Nice collection! I'm looking for the alley leading to a water fountain courtyard near the north side of Old Town, on the main path, close to the Royal Palace. Hard to find footage of this part online.

Yes I've been to Gamla Stan! I don't remember the name but I went to this cafe that used to be a prison and if you're any taller than me at 165cm, you'll have to duck down to get in the doorway and to sit at one of the tables in the old cells. I really loved all my trips to Sweden!!

I went to Sweden last June, and it's so nostalgic seeing all these streets of Old Town again! It's crazy how many times I went "yep, I recognise that street" while watching, although so many of them look so similar, it's hard to tell! It's crazy the amount of history each street has! I could have used this video a year ago when I was wondering what was up with the street names.

Evidently my ancestors lived at Kaksbrinken. They came to Sweden from the Spanish Netherlands in the 17th century. Govert Silentz was the name of the owner of the property, and I believe he was a merchant. Kaksbrinken doesn't seem like a favorable name for one's abode.

I have been there once. Mainly around östermalm and the surrounding area. The city was almost built in layers - go up a steep alleyway out of the harbor, then it levels off and there are more buildings. Go up another steep alley, same thing. Any idea why it was built that way?

Can you do I vlog about the proper way of pronouncing these consonant combination: ski, ske stj. I heard some Swedes pronounce them like the German sch and others like the English wh sound as in when but with a puff of breath. 🙂

Why do I hear people pronounce Skeppsoholmen as Shepsholmen and not Wheppsholmen?
@TheSwedishLad
@TheSwedishLad 5 лет назад
It's all because of different dialects, even within the bigger cities. Southern Swedes have a dialect more influenced by Danish/German/Dutch, whereas other parts of Sweden are closer to Finnish or Norwegian. When you have a very long country, this happens.

Touristy areas will provide Nordic flags, and Harry Styles t-shirts.
