Hey Tom, great video. This is my second week using your technique. My iron game was ridiculously long. I was 244yds out on a par 5. Took my 2 iron and landed pin high just left of the green. But, as usual, I was hooking my driver a lot on the back 9. Just saw your video about grips and will utilize a neutral grip to see if I improve my accuracy with my driver.

I haven’t watched this video yet. I just came to complain. I’ve been very complimentary about how you have helped me get KFCrispy lately. But there’s a problem that you don’t seem to care about. All of my irons are so crispy now that I am over shooting greens. My mishits are finishing pin high at least. I am going to have to rent a trackman and get all new yardages now. But I am definitely sold on this technique. I’ve never been one to airmail greens. I was always short with my irons. Thanks Tom!!

Geez. I hate it when that happens, and I am so very sorry for the difficulties that have arisen as a result of your newfound crispiness as well as my apparent indifference with regard to your suffering..... 😆😆😆 That's AWESOME! I'm very glad to know that my instruction is resonating with you; excellent job incorporating it into your swing and putting it into play. Thanks so much for sharing your dramatic improvements in ball striking and distance, and keep up the fantastic work!! 💪💪 Tom

I'm in the same boat. I'm on a 220yd uphill par 3 with wind in face. Grabbed my 4 iron and overshot the green by 15yds. This is my second week using the stack and tilt technique.

Not surprised by these comments it’s the same for me.. yesterday I played a dog leg right with an uphill green and my driving was too straight so that I should normally have to play a full 4 i . I decided to hit a 6i just to be down the very high green and I found my ball on this green. The first time I used Saguto’s S&T… Unbelievable !

Literally fixed everything i was working through this weekend. Slicing the ball mid round, make grip stronger... and stronger... Thinning more and more shots... Ruined the round. Today after watching and implementing this video in the simulator I didnt want to quit.. 7 iron. 7 wood. 3 wood. Didnt matter. The crispiest of strikes all around. Thanks again Tom
@SagutoGolf
@SagutoGolf 5 месяцев назад
OUTSTANDING!! 💪💪 Yes - rather than address the root cause the golfing world has been conditioned to keep on strengthening the grip until the slices dissipate, but doing so brings about a whole new array of possible issues. It's like putting your finger on a leak only to have a new and worse one spring up elsewhere. Anyway, I'm very glad to know that this lesson worked so well for you; excellent job incorporating it into your swing and putting it into play. Thanks so much for sharing your improvement and keep it crispy!! That's fabulous, Tom!! I'm very glad to know that this grip lesson resonated with you; excellent job incorporating it into your swing and putting it into play. By the way, I would be remiss if I didn't mention that a significant percentage of my online school members are in their 60's, 70's, and 80's - i.e.: a smorgasbord of chronic ailments, physical limitations, back/shoulder/knee/hip pain, arthritis, and joint replacements - and they are overwhelmingly elated to experience the dramatic pain-free game improvement, seemingly effortless power, and resulting enjoyment that this swing affords them. It all begins with a proper setup which provides for a free-flowing motion. Upon that good foundation a repeatable swing which produces consistently crispy impact can be built. Have you looked into the comprehensive, sequential learning platform of the online school yet? That's where - among many other courses and lessons covering various aspects of the game - you will find very detailed instruction and drills that take you through the entire swing step-by-step, position-by-position from setup to finish. Thousands of men and women from across the globe - including many accomplished, low-handicap, competitive players and spanning all age ranges from junior to super-senior - are now enjoying the best golf of their lives as a result and their unsolicited testimonials tell the story quite well: saguto.golf/p/sagutogolfreviews. At just $14.99/month or $149.99 per year the value in terms of what you get for that price point is beyond comprehension, and based on proven results it represents by far the best golf instruction deal on the planet. And if you'd like to first "dip a toe in the water" prior to diving into the school, then here is a link to my FREE mini course “The Top 3 Things You Need to Be a Great Ball Striker”: go.saguto.golf/ That is where you can learn some key aspects of the swing system I teach in a more structured manner. You don't need the flexibility of a Romanian gymnast - or even of this far less pliable golf instructor - to execute this swing, experience great ball striking, and reclaim - or even exceed - yardages from years past. I hope you'll give the school some thought. Thanks so much for sharing your improvement and keep up the great work!! 💪💪 Tom

When I started thinking about shaft lean and keeping my hands forward, it caused my face to stay to open at impact and even led to some dreaded shanks. Instead, I’ve decided to focus more on my tempo and making sure my chest and torso rotate through the ball. I use Max Homa as my tempo example. Obviously everyone’s natural tempo will be different. On video, there is still some shaft lean at impact as a result of my body moving in the correct manner and sequence. And a quick side note, I think grip is by far the most important thing in golf. I’ve heard Padraig Harrington, Luke Donald, Butch Harmon, Scottie Scheffler’s coach and many more say this. Scottie Scheffler’s coach gave that same tip of using your right heel pad to cover the left thumb. I’ve been trying it for 2 weeks and it has helped my wedge shots/short game tremendously. Still working on my long irons and driver (they’re still creeping right on me). Lucky for me, I’ve only been playing golf for 8 months so it’s not too hard to change my bad habits :)
@SagutoGolf
@SagutoGolf 5 месяцев назад
Well done, Brian! Yes - forward shaft lean at impact should be the result of a good setup and a properly executed motion. It is not something we should try to actively contrive or manufacture. By the way, as a relative "newbie" to this greatest of games, perhaps you might wish to consider the comprehensive, structured, sequential learning platform of my online school? An "AHA!" moment for me was letting the club travel back and letting my trail wrist bend straight back to load at the top as opposed to letting my grip break down. Another great video Tom! Compressing the ball with irons has defiantly improved for me since I started watching your video's. I wish I could say that about my driver though. Slice, slice and more slice. I think my problem is I don't understand everything with the driver swing. With the ball teed up at inside of my left foot(right hand swing), I'm having a hard time to not have my swing path heading left at impact. The low point of my swing is about 3-4 inches behind the ball. Up until that point, I believe my swing is inside out. From the low point to contact my swing changes to outside in. I'm trying to understand how that cannot be the case when you consider the swing is an arch. My swing changes directions at the low point and I don't know how to fix that. I don't have that problem with irons and I think it's because I've already made contact before the bottom of the swing, when the direction of the swing was still inside out.

I'm glad to know that this lesson resonated with you, Terry, and I'm very pleased to learn of your ball striking improvement! With regard to the driver, it is essentially the same swing with every club; just some minor setup differences and naturally occurring shaft plane changes as we graduate up in club length from short irons to woods. To demonstrate, you'll find towards the end of this episode some practice range footage of me hitting a 7 iron, 3 wood, and driver: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-o0xscMyN3v8.html Beyond that, if you search the word "drive" on this channel you'll see some related content. Oftentimes when golfers are hitting everything well except for the driver it can be attributed to one of the following: 1) Their hips are not continuing their lateral slide through impact. This is common with the driver as the wider stance means that the hips have a greater distance to travel. If the hips stop moving laterally towards the target on the downswing then their rotation takes over, inhibiting any further necessary forward weight loading (we should be 80/20 forward halfway down, 90/10 at impact, and 95/5 in the finish), changing the low point and rerouting the club into a steeper angle of attack (AoA). This can produce a variety of undesirable results including fat and thin contact, topped shots and popups, straight pulls, and “banana” slices. Of great importance is keeping your upper torso/head in place (in other words, not moving towards the target from a face-on view) while the hips execute the lateral slide action. This preserves the swing center and the desired shallow AoA. 2) They are not allowing the length of the club to dictate the backswing path and are getting too steep as a result. The shaft of the driver is considerably longer than the other clubs and thus requires more of an around the body backswing as established by the shaft plane at address. It may "feel" flat as they take it back along the shaft plane for the first few feet, but as long as they maintain the "weight forward, shoulder down, and hands in" components while allowing the club to work around them, it should put them in the proper position at the top so they can attack the ball from the inside. (A good feel for that lead shoulder is "down and in, under the chin".) 3) The low point of your swing should still be slightly after the ball with the driver. Many believe - and some even teach - that we must try to "hit up on the ball" with this club. However, consider that in our stock setup with the driver the hands are even with the inside of the lead thigh (as they are with all clubs when playing a standard shot) and our ball position is even with the inside of the heel of the lead foot. This presets a very slight degree of forward shaft lean with the driver. Beyond that, the ball is behind the zero-point of the swing (which is even with the lead shoulder), meaning that without any contrived manipulations the club will still be on its descent - albeit very close to flat - at impact. So, perhaps with the exception of folks with slower swing speeds - or those Long Drive participants teeing it extra high and hitting maybe 1-2 balls out of 10 onto a 60-yard wide "fairway" - in general the path is still ever so slightly down. In fact, the PGA Tour average with the driver is actually minus (e.g.: downward) 1.5 degrees - nearly level - and it should feel level - but slightly down nonetheless. (Here is an article on Ping’s website addressing this topic - ping.com/en-us/blogs/proving-grounds/optimal-launch-and-spin#:~:text=According%20to%20Trackman%2C%20PGA%20Tour,85%25%20ball%2Dflight%20laws ) Here is a link to my FREE mini course “The Top 3 Things You Need to Be a Great Ball Striker” where you can learn some aspects of the system I teach in a more structured manner: go.saguto.golf/ This will provide a nice foundational understanding of the swing keys that will ultimately get you mashing the ball through your entire bag. When I add in lateral hip movement I struggle with solid contact because of the angle change of upper body. Head doesn't move, hips slide forward means upper body tilts slightly away from target and lowers low point of swing slightly. Need more reps O guess.

I'm very glad to learn of your ball striking improvement, Taylor - nice job! If you were previously prone to a steep, over-the-top downswing path (and slices as a result), then you may have habitually closed the face at address and/or strengthened your grip to compensate. If your path is now corrected then these can definitely affect ball flight. If so, try opening the face ever so slightly at address and weakening your grip to see if that helps. Beyond that, if you've not already joined have you considered enrolling in the online school and taking your learning - and your game - to the next level? That's where - in addition to detailed lessons and drills that take you through the entire swing step-by-step, position-by-position from setup to finish - you'll find diagnostic tools for identifying/resolving swing and ball flight issues when they arise, plus advanced level instruction, and much more. Thousands of men and women from across the globe - including many accomplished, low-handicap, competitive players and spanning all age ranges from junior to super-senior - are now enjoying the best golf of their lives as a result, and their unsolicited testimonials tell the story quite well: saguto.golf/p/sagutogolfreviews. At just $14.99/month or $149.99 per year the value in terms of what you get for that price point is beyond comprehension, and based on proven results it represents by far the best golf instruction deal on the planet. Let's get that trajectory fixed so you can call upon those stingers only when needed!! Tom

This is great 👍🏻 Everyone talks about LEFT hand when they talk about grip. NO ONE talks about the right. I always thought it goes along for the ride. But this makes so much sense (that it causes you to flip). I’ve always wondered about this. 🤔 “Hand ON TOP, covering …” “Pressure point” to compress the ball I’m going to focus on this tomorrow ☝🏻 Yes it will feel uncomfortable, but … I remember when I was growing up, my Dad (who really didn’t play golf) had his right hand under the club and he snap hooked everything. 🙄 But it was comfortable to him. “the Magic Move” - Johnny Miller … what’s he know 🙄 🤣 LOL

Yeah....what's he know?......😆😆 Anyway, I'm glad to know that this lesson resonated with you, Mike! Strong grips may feel nice and powerful - and comfortable - but in reality they have destroyed countless amateur swings and games across the globe when deployed as an anti-slice band-aid. A neutral grip absolutely does not encourage an out-to-in path. In fact, in the system I teach a neutral grip is the preferred attachment for our stock powerful push-draw ball flight, and you can only achieve that through a proper in-to-out route to the ball that the neutral grip helps us to ingrain. Conversely, a strong grip is used in our system as one of the setup features for a pull-fade shape. Go figure, right? But the physics and geometry do not lie... So get out there and embrace the weirdness of a more neutrally positioned trail hand. Give it some time and you'll ultimately reap the crispy benefits and the more reliable ball flight. Tom

The right hand is basically fused with no ability to hinge and very little range of motion. The condition is called Kienbock's Disease. I have been able to hit hybrids and driver on the range but no success with my irons. I was allowing the right hand to come off the grip in order to compensate for the limited motion in my wrist. in some of the pics, it looks like the right hand is "covering" the left, but not that much on top. The right hand notch is pointing towards the right shoulder- which i think it should. I think the "connection" of the right hand on the left is the key. and not too strong.

Hey Tom! Just wondering how you hold the weight forward at set up. I tend to feel it over my big toe, but I’m not so sure that’s correct. Should I be pushing my front hip forward instead? Hope that makes sense. Thanks!
@SagutoGolf
@SagutoGolf 5 месяцев назад
We should feel evenly balanced between heel and toe in both feet. This balance is achieved by first setting our knees over the toes (or at least over the toe end of our shoelaces) to activate the ground connection, and then pushing our butt out to incline the hips and chest so that a relationship with the ball is established. The arms hang down naturally from the shoulders with all clubs except the driver, for which we push them out an inch or so to encourage more of the around-the-body motion needed for that lengthy shaft. We address the ball stacked shoulders over hips over knees with our weight balanced 50/50. We then simply bump our hips one inch towards the target while keeping everything else in place. This presets a little more weight forward while retaining the stacked relationship. Both feet are flared outward approximately 10-20 degrees, with the knees similarly angled outward. This orientation facilitates a stress-free, flowing motion back and through, resulting in a very body-friendly, consistent, powerful swing! Tom PS: Have you worked through my FREE mini course “The Top 3 Things You Need to Be a Great Ball Striker" yet? go.saguto.golf/ This is a great way to gain a fundamental understanding of this swing system as well as an introduction to the instruction style that has thousands of men and women from across the globe - including many accomplished, low-handicap, competitive players and spanning all age ranges from junior to super-senior - enjoying the best golf of their lives: saguto.golf/p/sagutogolfreviews

@SagutoGolf 5 месяцев назад
Hi Greg, Your lead arm should hang down naturally from the shoulder relatively straight and without any "forcing" at address, and we should then be able to preserve that level of tension-free straightness throughout the motion. I've probably already shared with you that a significant percentage of my online school members are in their 60's, 70's, and 80's - i.e.: a smorgasbord of chronic ailments, physical limitations, back/shoulder/knee/hip pain, arthritis, and joint replacements - and they are overwhelmingly elated to experience the dramatic pain-free game improvement, seemingly effortless power, and resulting enjoyment that this swing affords them. _It all begins with a proper setup which provides for a free-flowing motion._ Upon that good foundation a repeatable swing which produces consistently crispy impact can be built. If you really want to purge all those thoughts and take ownership of a powerful, repeatable, body-friendly swing, then please consider my online school. It will make for a far more efficient, superior, and enjoyable learning process rather than haphazardly trying to piece things together through these channel videos that jump around randomly from topic to topic. I know for a fact I'm guilty of that right hand being too low. I know better, but it still bites me when I start getting flustered after hitting some stinkers. My main problem is almost assuredly mental. I know I can play even-par, I've done it a number of times, but just on nine holes. Even when I play well on the front or the back, I screw up a few holes on the other side and that gets into my whole "Here we go again..." negativity. Ugh.

Hi why does your club face look open ?
@SagutoGolf
@SagutoGolf 5 месяцев назад
The face is open a degree or two to the target line at address. Consider that the zero-point of the swing is even with the lead shoulder/armpit from a face-on view. The face would be square to the target there, but since the ball position is behind that spot, without any contrived manipulations this causes the face to be ever so slightly open to the target line. This relationship - face open to the target and closed to the in-to-out downswing path - is how we achieve the stock push-draw ball flight of this swing system. I hope this explanation aids in your understanding! Tom

@SagutoGolf
@SagutoGolf 5 месяцев назад
Hi Patricia, Consider the following possibilities: 1) Ball position is too far forward, 2) Hands are too far back at address (they should be in line with the inside of your lead thigh), 3) The swing center and low point are drifting backwards at some point during the motion (face-on video will help you determine this), 4) The downswing is steep and/or the path is out-to-in, 5) Early extension of the trail arm during the downswing (also known as "casting"), 6) Flipping/scooping through the zone, 7) Loss of relationship with the ball (shoulder angle flattening, loss of tilt). Though not an exhaustive list, those are the primary causes of fats, thins, and tops. By the way, always begin with the setup - in this case the first two possibilities - prior to diving into a swing intervention. By the way, there are entire sections of my online school dedicated to diagnosing and resolving common swing, contact, and ball flight issues. Have you looked into it? Left thumb on top, and right hand on top is a WEAK grip..99% of other instructors say it should be stronger for most amatuers??
@SagutoGolf
@SagutoGolf 5 месяцев назад
99%? Really? That would be quite sad if it were actually true, Rory... Mine is a neutral grip, with both creases pointing in the vicinity of my trail ear. That aside, deterring you from your desired grip is not the point here. A strong grip - when deployed as an anti-slice band-aid - is precisely that: a patch for a deficiency or flaw somewhere upstream in the swing motion that the teacher or golfer can't or won't fix. If, on the other hand - so to speak 😎 - it is simply a matter of personal preference, then we should endeavor to remain keenly aware of our ball flight as it is quite adept at telling us if our grip is starting to leak too much to the strong side. TS
@CrankyBuddha
@CrankyBuddha 5 месяцев назад
Its about finding the balance for your swing. 99% of amateurs also struggle with fades and slices as their misses, but once you get your swing moving the right way, the "left hand stronger right hand weaker' grip alot of instructors teach to help slicers hit the ball straighter, will actually make you start hooking like crazy. Once you get the swing path in to out reliably, you really have to be conscious of things that will make you over-rotate the face, and will have to weaken the grip to avoid it. It's a hell of a cycle sometimes :)

Great tip Tom on covering the left thumb with the right palm when gripping the club and applying pressure to this position. I have always done this with the "trigger finger" of the right hand acting as a "pusher" when the hands are coming into the strike zone. I haven't commented on your channel but I think I've thumbed up every video of yours that I've seen. I'm planning to buy your membership. Why you? Well, it's not that your saying exactly what I want to hear, like a lot of RU-vidrs, who want to make the swing more complicated rather than less. Because I'm not a natural, I wanted to believe the swing needed to be more complex than it needs to be to explain my reason for doing it so poorly. Watching your channel unlocked an avenue of thought previously unthought... keeping it simple. My biggest criticism of my own game, and my swing, has been inconsistency. It's unfortunate that for so long I believed that weight shifting and perfectly timed flipping and this and that, made more sense than the approach you present. But better to learn late than not at all. I am going to do the free mini-course and put it to use this opening weekend and then subscribe.

I sincerely appreciate your kind words and support, Scott, and I'm very glad to know that my lesson content and teaching style are resonating with you and providing clarity and simplicity in the muddied, overly complicated, oft-conflicting realm of golf instruction! The way I see it, we can either simply put the already existing natural laws to work and thereby build a powerful, body-friendly, repeatable, low-maintenance motion, or we can twist, morph, torque, contrive, and otherwise mess with the principles of physics and geometry in an effort to better suit some ill-conceived whims, all the while recognizing that at the point of impact those pre-existing laws are going to be the only things that matter to the ball. Unfortunately, however, such sorcery from this dark underworld of golf instruction rarely finds its way to the mainstream because if too many folks found out about it the mainstream would then be rendered irrelevant....... 😎 Consider that despite all the advances in equipment, technology, golf course grooming, etc. the average golfer still struggles to break 100. Epic failures within the realm of “conventional” instruction, perhaps??? So many misconstrued and/or misguided teachings - such as taking the club straight back, turning the shoulders level while independently lifting the arms, shifting into and torquing against a firm trail side, firing the hips, actively rolling the hands through impact, etc. - have relegated generations of golfers to the vast abyss of inconsistency and chronic frustration (and chronic back/knee/hip pain as well). I’m doing my best here to clear these up and put an end to this madness. Thanks again for your message, and I look forward to seeing you soon in the online school!! Tom

Buttery biscuits? Sounds like somebody's getting into hockey playoff season mode by catching up on some old On the Bench eppies. Tom's tips are supes crucie boys for rippin' the marshmallow like a laser down the green mile and through the twine at the end of the driving range at over 300 Kanadians per hour.

Oh yah eh - I'm tuning in periodically waiting for another Rangers Hanson Brotheresque line brawl at the opening puck drop. Nuthin' better than a buttery biscuit and a few Molson Bradors when doing so, don'tcha know.....😎 Thanks for the shout out on these tips, and keep on rippin' those KPH's! 💪💪

The camera is driving me nuts. I like the normal camera angle. We can see the whole picture.

I suppose it's all in the eyes of the beholder, Joe. Here is what Jeffrey just said: "Just watched the new video. Will be trying out the grip this afternoon at the course. Just wanted to give a big thumbs up on the video quality and filming technique. This appears to be new compared to many of your other videos. Picture quality is very sharp and I like the cameraman moving around during the presentation instead of just the usual static shots. Thanks."

I want to see how you hit 75 to 125 with high ball flight

I simply select the proper club for the shot and execute the swing, Dylan. It's really as simple as that. In this swing system we can flight it as high or low as we want with some minor setup adjustments. For example, here is a shot shaping demonstration featuring a fellow teaching pro when we were attending the Stack & Tilt Instructor Camp together in Miami: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-IcmKxfLz9EM.html Would you like to learn some key aspects of the swing I teach in a more structured manner? If so, then here is a link to my FREE mini course “The Top 3 Things You Need to Be a Great Ball Striker”: go.saguto.golf/ It's a great way to gain a fundamental understanding of this system as well as an introduction to the instruction style that has thousands of men and women from across the globe - including many accomplished, low-handicap, competitive players and spanning all age ranges from junior to super-senior - enjoying the best golf of their lives: saguto.golf/p/sagutogolfreviews Tom
