The Dark Knight Rises has basically the same plot as The World is Not Enough. - Renard/ Bane are both terrorists who feels no pain following an injury - Elektra / Talia is love interest who turns out to be the main villain - Elektra / Talia are driven by their relationships with now dead father - Elektra / Talia both spent time unjustly imprisoned prior to the movie - Bond / Wayne is recovering from an injury (shoulder / knee) - Plot to blow up a city with an atypical nuclear bomb - Subplot about energy and big business Probably missing a couple of things as well.
It’s kinda cool that older James Bond films inspired a lot of the Dark Knight Trilogy and the Dark Knight Trilogy inspired the newer Daniel Craig Bond films.
The Bond influence in Tenet is undeniable, but I argue that it is mostly from another spy story, The Night Manager, by John Le Carre. The storyline and characters are so similar, he even used the same actress, Elizabeth Debicki, playing virtually the same character as she did in The Night Manager series. Tenet is basically TNM with a fantastic time-twist, and with Washington in the part of Tom Hiddleston and Branagh in the part of Hugh Laurie, and so on. But I don't blame Nolan, TNM was great and that made Tenet also a great mind-bender of movie. I just wonder if Le Carre saw it, as he died four months after Tenet came out.
Glad you pointed out the similarities between the two franchise's. Loved them both and you are correct about Debicki. Which also has another Nolan link because Her role.in MAN FROM.U.N.C.L.E. in the same role only as a.villain.as Cavill being a lead. 6 degrees of separation there! 😂
You dare claim Nolan isn't an original genious and the best thing to happen to cinema since sound? RUN. THE FANBOYS ARE COMING FOR YOU WITH TORCHES AND PITCHFORKS?!!!!
If EON rejected him in the mid 00's, it's sweet delight for him that they now want him. Also: Bond standing on top of building at end of Skyfall, just like Batman. Skyfall Estate is his Wayne Manor, which as in Batman Begins gets burnt down by a private army of villains. Bond like Bruce lost his parents as a child, and was brought up by their servant, a seemingly ex Military Man who taught him how to use a gun, and survival. The villain, like The Joker, has an insanely intricately calculated plan that works and seems to be able to anticipate his enemy's moves with amazing accuracy. He does things to get them to do something else further down the line. He and his goons dress as Police Officers to get close to their target and shoot at them.
The Bond producers won't hire Nolan he will want creative control and their enormous Egos won't allow that. They have to be in charge they can't have a writer-director like Nolan or Tarantino who will push them aside and never listen to them. And they are not desperate enough to hire Nolan to do a new 007 movie.
Like how you mentioned, the Craig films definitely took influence from Nolan. Honestly that’s one of my favorite things about film, everything is just one giant homage
Not once did I even consider or think of Tenet as a bond film, it all makes sense now why he casted John David Washington. He had Robert Pattinson right there and rightfully didn’t give him the role because of comparisons
I think I had just rewatched The Spy who loves me, some weeks before seeing Tenet, so I've always seen it as a straight up Bond film, but instead of the spy hero being a callous assassin, he's a genuinely warm human being who cares about the people he encounters en route to saving the world.
The fact that his Batman was basic ninja James Bond with Lucius being his Q made me livid. Batman is ninja Doc Savage he needs no Q. He is his own Q.🤦♂️ outside of that Nolan’s films are mainly awesome.
Doesn't seem like it would have been that drastically different from what we got the only real difference was the Black Panther mantle passing on to Shuri
I’d love to see Nolan make a Bond film, but even more than that, I’d love to see what he would do with a Mission Impossible film - especially if it was a total reimagining where he’d have free reign.
I doubt there are many British action film makers that won't be a little inspired by Bond. I definitely felt the Bond homage when I first saw Inception. But hey, I've never praised Nolan as being original but just being damn good at making the films. Imitating great films is hard to do but Nolan does a great job of it.
@@jesustovar2549 Yep Tarantino is another one. Not very original (even Tarantino's titles are taken from other films) but he makes a solid film that is worthy in its own right.
Well trying to be what many consider one of Nolan's worst movies does set a movie up for failure. Also, since The Dark Knight Rises lifts from The World Is Not Enough, and that is not a good movie, No Time to Die imitating an okay Nolan movie that imitated a bad Bond movie really does create for a bad foundation.
@@outsidelookinginprod Ummm, TDKR got great reviews and made over a billion dollars, I would hardly call that a bad film. TDKR was a great film in all respects, NTD is easily the worst Bond film ever. How exactly did TDKR life from TWINE? All I can think of is Bane is kind of like Renard in the sense that he can't feel pain but that is such a loose reference. You don't know what you're talking about and you have a pretty terrible taste in movies. I'm guessing the deep themes and complex characters went over your head and that's the reason you don't like it. Tell me this: How was Bruce able to make it out of the pit? If you can't answer that question then you have no business attacking TDKR because it's clear you don't understand it.
@@outsidelookinginprod I also bet that you’re one of those people who complains nonstop about there not being enough Batsuit scenes, hahahaha. Such a simpleton you are. And TWINE is one of the weaker Bond films, I wouldn’t call it bad but at the same time I ranked it 20th and it is the worst of the Brosnan films.
@@outsidelookinginprod Also FYI Dunkirk is Nolan’s weakest film and Tenet is his second weakest. TDKR is one of his best up there with Interstellar and TDK.
The later Bond films like Skyfall were absolutely influenced by The Dark Knight, but I think Batman Begins and Casino Royale came out too close together for the latter to have been inspired by the former. Think Bond was being rebooted with a "gritty" tone more because of the success of the Bourne films than Batman Begins.
@@Bulletsandblockbusters Yeah totally, but I think the success of the Bourne films and that whole tone being celebrated is what made them wanna make Bond "realistic" to begin with.
Batman Begins was released in June 2005. Casino Royale started shooting end of Jan 2006. That's enough time for the execution to be decided, and BB made Hard Reboots plausible. Previous to that no one dared say even Batman Forever was something of a Reboot to Batman Returns. But BB said no this movie is unconnected to any other Batman. CR did the same thing, which was remarkable to break away from the 20 Film Bond Series's continuity, even when that had danced around tones and recastings. With news of BB being a Hard Reboot ahead of release and the look of the trailers may I think have changed EON's mind. And to settle on us seeing something of Bond's origin story. It also I think made it clear to EON that audiences were ready for darker, grittier Blockbusters and the times of Die Another Day's gaudy silliness was over. Even Batman could be harsh and real.
@@davidjames579 Movies take longer to get into production than 6 or 7 months. That means that the Bond producers would've had to decide on a gritty reboot, had a script written, made pre-production plans, cast a brand new James Bond and other actors, arrange all these location shoots and elaborate setpieces in just half a year. That's just stupid.
@@R1ch4d8 You don't appear to be aware of how quick EON are compared to normal film productions. That aside, as I said the decision could well have been made before BB's release. Influenced by how the film appeared to be shaping up and it's changes such as Reboot and tone were known from at least it's shooting commencing in March 2004.
Was thinking EON had announced Nolan as Director my only concern is will Bond 26 on Native 4K Dolby Vision+Atmos because Nolan doesn't like Atmos Oppenheimer Blu ray disc release should had Dolby Atmos or DTS X
There were two stunts in Batman Begins lifted right out of Bond movies. When Batman is overwhelmed by a crowd, he aims his grappling gun at the train passing above to pull him out of the crowd and escape. This is exactly what Bond does in License to Kill when he’s underwater and surrounded by the villain’s men, except it’s a seaplane. Later, Batman escapes from the back of the train by using his cape as a parachute. At the beginning of The Living Daylights, Bond escapes from the back of a jeep by opening his parachute.
Kubrick and Hitchcock adapted from novels, Tarantino steals entire plots and set pieces, David Fincher doesn't even write scripts, Scorsese makes plenty of hommages to classic films, James Cameron has been sued for plagiarism for almost all of his movies... Even the Bond films started taking cues from the Bourne saga So, what's your point?
Marvel.. should .(this serious) make an Oppenheimer cash grab with . The hulk. There isna cover up where he makes this nuke and rick jones explains it. Russian spies like blonsky get to be retconned as russian spy like the comics. Of the hulk getting a movie that never actually happen.
I want to get this complaining about stealing even Quentin Tarantino proudly admits it and it enhances watching his movies upon rewatch more often than not
@@Bulletsandblockbusters no brother thank you always you make these great docs for us to watch how could i let you thank me for watching no boss man THANK YOU VERY MUCH!
I’d love to see a Nolan Bond trilogy. The problem is, he wants more creative control than EON Productions is willing to give over, which is where the impasse comes in.
Honestly, the fact that no one has ever thought to hire Nolan to direct a Bond movie or Mission Impossible movie feels like a missed opportunity in his career.
There were some leaks a few months ago that said that Nolan did spoke with the Broccolis about it, but nothing came of it. Apparently, Nolan wanted to co write the film, and set it in the 1950s like the original novels, which the Broccolis refused to. Also, we have the fact that Nolan said that he is not much interested in franchises after TDK, which makes sense. Big directors barely do franchises, and the ones that do the most, like Cameron and Spielberg, its because they created their own franchises.
Don't know how you got that when this video references full plot lines in Nolan's films that were directly lifted from Bond films. That is a lot more than 10%
I wish Nolan would have done Bond instead of Batman. Not sure if the Batman movies would have been better during that time but the Bond movies sure would.
I'm pretty sure Robert Pattinson in Tenet is straight up Bond from the books. He's introduced as a bit of a boozy fellow, and coldheartedly assassinates random guards in the Mumbai penthouse, while Washington's character incapacitates people without harming them.
I think the one of the difference is Christopher Nolan movies are most sexless compared to James Bond movies. There's really nothing sexy about Nolan movies overall
Until Oppenheimer. But that said Marion Cotillard as Mal in Inception is very sensual, sexy and Bond Femme Fatale. And Rachel as played by Maggie Gyllenhaal always seems horny......
This was dope. Even though I'm not a big Nolan fan, it's really cool to see some of the big influences on his work. I'd like to see a Tarantino version of this video; it'd be at least ten hours long if you included everything lol
@@teddykgb9971 But Scorsese said he appreciates Nolan, he wanted to see Oppenheimer (and even Barbie to that regard, same photography director as Killers of the Flower Moon, insane), but I would really like to see Scorsese's take on The Dark Knight Trilogy, he said years ago that he liked Sam Raimi's Spider-Man, maybe he did knew Raimi's previous work.
